Liberty Assurance, Inc. Aka L.A.I. Aka Century Group, Inc. Received check for $4950.00 for International Home Improvement Grant in the mail Manhattan New York

A letter on Liberty Assurance, Inc. letterhead was mailed along with a check for $4950.00 stating I was randomly selected to receive a Home Improvement Grant of $39,000.00. Included was a claim number and a serial number. The total grant monies are being held in escrow minus the amount of the check to pay for fees and taxes. In order to activate my account, I first needed to call 1-289-892-3694 (the # is in Canada - verified via Google search) and ask for Peter Winfred or Leslie Hayes. I knew this was not valid from the start.

What is really distrubing is they use Readers Digest and Publisher's Clearing House as a reference database for the random selection of names. Also, on the back of the letter, they have many well known company logos listed as donors. Gap, McDonalds, Wal-Mart, Wendy's, Microsoft, etc, etc.

The check is drawn off an account held by L-O Tempe Hotel, Inc. in Tempe, AZ. The bank is US Bank - 866-303-5781.

This is a very sophisticated scam and I hope people get the word out. I'm concerned for older folks and the young kids just starting out.
