Would not refund my money due to no tags on items. I had a receipt. Accused me of trying to scam them which I took a very personal offense to. I'm not a scammer. I'm a 62 year old grandmother who bought two dresses at the store that didn't fit. They were very rude and wouldn't listen at all. I was going to get another dress but couldn't without the tags.

Age has nothing to do with this

Why did you take off the tags off before making sure they fit?

It has been standard for years for just about every clothing store to require that the tags must still be on the item in order to do a return/exchange.

The receipt proves you purchased SOMETHING at SOME date, for SOME amount. It does not prove that you purchased THAT item, nor does it prove that you didn't actually wear it. For all they know you went to a Party with the dress, and then when you no longer needed it the dress magically no longer fit and you want to return it.

That is where the tags come in. After all the tags are usually not in the most hidden places, so if someone was to wear it out it would be obvious that the tags are still on it. Even when people try to "hide" them it doesn't always work. So anyone who sees a tag on clothes someone is wearing the first thing they think is "Oh that person is scamming the store and going to return it".

The fact is that stores were tired of being a clothes library where someone could just "check-out" a piece of clothing and then return it a few days later without having to pay a dime.
