Beware of Lube n Go...the 9746 Dyer, El Paso location in particular!

While my girlfriend was well over due for an oil change (I'd say by about 10 months!), she had only put about 2500 miles on her Dodge 6 cylinder pickup during this time.  She has another vehicle and she usually rides in mine, so her truck mainly sits in the garage. I had been on her about getting it changed, and she finally got around to doing it today.  Because the Lube n Go was close to her house, I suggested she go there and let them do it if there wasn't much of a wait, so she did.

Then I got the text while I was at work..."OMG! They said my oil is so dark and dirty that it needs to be flushed and its gonna cost $90 and thats without the oil change! They said I need the air filter replaced (I replaced it 3 weeks ago). They said that I need the high mileage oil and that's gonna b extra (her 2000 truck just turned 100,000 miles, and the engine was replaced 4 years ago with a new one so it has less on it). They said because of the miles I should have the radiator flushed, the fuel injectors cleaned (injectors and valves were cleaned about a month prior), and the differential oils changed!  They said if I do all this the oil change will be free. Do I need all this?  What should I do? Its gonna cost a fortune!"

I immediately called her and told her I was on my way.  Upon arrival, I discovered that the manager, Jesus Castillo, had already convinced her to do the oil flush and they had already started.  I was livid!  I told them to stop, and they said it was too late and that she approved it so they needed to finish.  I jumped all over him about taking advantage of women who didn't know anything about auto maintenance, and for upselling things that were needed.  I told him we were not going to pay for the service and that I wanted to speak to his boss. I got a number, called it, and no one was available.  I left my number and they were to call me back.

I didn't hear back, and told Jesus Castillo I wasn't going to pay for the flushing and wasn't going to pay anything until I spoke with his boss.  Mr. Castillo informed me that he had already spoke with his boss, and his boss told him that if we didn't pay to call the police.  I told him to call the police then, but my girlfriend convinced them to give a discount ($13) from the $90 bill (which should have been $32 for the oil change) and to accept it just not to have a scene.  Since then, I have placed 2 calls to the "boss" and have not yet heard back.  I have also researched this "oil flush", because I never heard of such a thing, and found artivles that this is just another way for these oil service companies to convince you to spend more money with them.

I have the pamphlet with all the services Jesus Castillo tried to convince my girlfreind to buy.  They are all circled in red with little notes on them.  If I hadn't shown up who knows what they would have ripped my girlfreind off for!  Beware!!!!

Sounds like your girlfriend has never been to one of these oil change places.   No matter which one I go to (Jiffy Lube, Valvoline, etc...), they all try to sell me these unecessary services.

Since your girlfriend told them to go ahead with a service, you don't have a leg to stand on there.   She agreed to it and they did it.

In the future, you need to instruct her to refuse all of their services except the oil and filter change.
