Many of MacDonald's locations disrespect the U.S. Flag by flying a corporate flag on the same pole! I am a veteran and many of my veteran freinds have reported this to MacDonald's store managers, only to find that noone seems to care. My business is providing U.S.Flags to many major companies and they are informed of this Flag code rule. Possibly MacDonald's corporate was never informed by their supplir(s) of this unacceptable practice? Maybe they can enforce this patriotic rule with theire stores and especially their francisees locations

Which part?

AUTHOR: JAFO - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, August 15, 2010

Which part of the US Flag Code are security companies not respecting? The only possibilities I found were:

Section 8, Part D stating the flag should never be used as wearing apparel..which would obviously imply draping a flag over yourself as your soul form of attire.

or

Part I that states no part of the flag shall be used as part of a costume or athletic apparel.   However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen and members of other patriotic organizations.

The patch on a security uniform is not their sole apparel,.  Technically, based on the dictionary definition of costume, a uniform is a costume.  Society does not generally define them as such though.  But if you're going to complain based on a strict interpretation of the code, then only male firefighting and police personnel can wear the patch because it specified fireMEN and policeMEN.  Also, at the end of that same line is an exemption for members of patriotic organizations.  Why can't security companies be patriotic.

I can see complaining about mistreating a flag but security companies wearing a flag patch...that's just ridiculous.

Advertising and the Flag

The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever.  It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard.  Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown. (U.S  Code, Title 4, Chapter1, Section 8(i))

The display of a corporate flag is not considered to be advertising.

Federal Flag Code

AUTHOR: Robert - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, August 14, 2010

I suggest you read the Federal Flag Code, Title 4 U.S.C. Chapter 1.

As long as the U.S. Flag is at the top of the pole/lanyard, this is acceptable.  Refer to 4 U.S.C. Chapter 1, Sections 7(c) and 7(f).

What I find troubling, is all the "private security" outfits that have the flag patch as part of their uniforms.
