I signed up for a Macy's card (singular) in order to receive a discount on some clothes. I made my payments as my bills came. I went in to the store to make my final payment, leaving me with a zero balance. The cashier told me what it was, so I payed it.

About a week later I go on to the website to view my balance. It says 0.00, so I was shredding my statements as they came. Unbeknownst to me, the 0.00 balance is on a Visa account Macy's gave me when I opened my card. Why when I go on the Macy's website and enter the number on the Macy's card, why does it show me a balance for a Visa account, and not the store account? It's also conveniently named "Macy's Visa Account", leading you to believe it is your store account, when in actuality the VISA side has nothing to do with Macy's.

Long and short of it is, there was still an 18 dollar balance on the Macy's side of the card, which I did not find out about until I saw the hit on my credit. This effectively dropped my credit score 57 points. I am now concerned I will have trouble getting a loan for a home. At no point was I aware I was opening two accounts. At no point did I receive two seperate statements sent in the same envelope from Macy's. When I went in the store to make the now 51.00 dollar payment, the first account she pulled up was the VISA...why is that? I'm in Macy's with a Macy's card to pay a Visa balance? This is seriously messed up, and something needs to be done. I want my good credit back. Their phone operators speak poor English, and are not helpful. I honestly got transfered to a guy that after listening to me rant for five minutes said "Sir, there is nothing I can do, since I do not have your info in front of me" What exactly do you do then?!?!

This person that wrote this is my story of each & every day's work. eack day I deal with people that rant at us, but do not help us to understand what their problem is. The example of the customer that here states that he ranted for about 10 minutes while never giving the phons service person his acct. # is a prime example. If he would have worked with the phone operator by being a sane person that gave his acct # & then discussed what was wrong, he may have gotten late fees & finance charges removed for either ligitimate or curtesy reasons. Every day, we get people like this that call us up, yell at us, & demand that we just take out an eraser & eliminate the charges that they don't understand. If they pay late, they get a late fee, but they blame us because they are not capable of getting their bills paid in a responsible & timely manner. If they discuss their situation with us we are more than happy to help. If they rant for 10 minutes & then are supprised that we don't have a crystal ball to automatically know their acct information, they should question why they were incapable of entering their acct. number & ss# correctly into the phone system so that their acct # would come on the screen by auto population.
