Two months ago, i received a phone call from a company offering discounted magazines and a free watch. I still have not received my magazines or my wonderful free watch, what a ripoff!! Oh, and to top it all off, I called customer service when the charge appeared on my credit card and customer service was extremely rude and stated there was no way they could issue a refund, I then said that i would dispute with my credit card company, and the man on the phone stated that i would just be turned over to collections anyway.

Consumers please beware, do not fall for these traps. These people are nothing but vultures. Do not accept offers like these over the phone. If anyone can offer any advice, please let me know.

readers choice

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 09, 2007

I won a dispute over $43 with reader's choice by filing a complaint to the Federal Regulation E Department about the unauthorized charges and suspicious, and inadequate customer service techniques(I was on hold for over 40 minutes, 7 days in a row during my trial period, between 3-5 pm monday through sunday. But reader's choice decided to re-charge the $43 to my account with them, because i had cancelled my credit card already(because of them.) They also continued to charge $25 for the reversal. So that doesn't make sense.

All in all, reader's choice and any company that calls and says they received information from a survey, will suck you in, and then try to intimidate you to get your money, they wont reason with you unless you can provide absolute concrete evidence which voids their "voice recorded contract." speaking of which,

does a voice recorded conversation bind as a legal agreement?

Readers Choice Promotions AKA United Marketing Assoc. Ripoff

AUTHOR: Andrea - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 08, 2004

I too was ripped off by people pretending to take surveys. then all of a sudden they're selling magazines. I foolishly accepted but while I was still on the phone I changed my mind. This girl Jaqueline said "We already have your info!" Finally she lowered the price from $62-something to $39.93. She would not even give me a phone number until I gave her a really hard time and it was an old address in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their new one is PO Box 12057 Las Vegas,NV 89112. Later that day I got the price down to $19.99 per month for 25 months. They were suppose to send me a dimond watch too(its only worth $5.95). I sent in a cancelation letter the same day I got their letter, by certified mail. I don't know if you have done this already but I would send in a complaint to the FTC, NFIC, and your attorney general. I lost about $40. I changed my account number also. This happened on Aug. 12 0f 2004 I think it was. The government agencies may not be able to do anything but if enough people complain about a certain company then they can put that company out of business. THE # TO RCP AKA UNITED MARKETING ASSOC. is 1-888-624-7669,1-888-446-4405

i am still magazineless

AUTHOR: Laura - (U.S.A.)

well i am in the process of disputing this company with my credit card company and i still have not received my magazines or free watch. someone from the company called me today and tried to talk me out of disputing the charge they made with my credit card company, saying that he spoke with the magazine publishers and they said my subscriptions should be on their way. as if i believe that. i had already called these companies to check and see if they even have me down as a subscriber, and none of them did. these people are crafty. i told the man that called me today that i had already checked on the magazine subscriptions myself, and he became absolutely quiet. to make a long story short. i sure hope i get my money back and these people quit trying to charge me. if there is anyone out there who has been through something similar, i would definetly appreciate some advice. until then, i will be updating again soon.

#3 REBUTTAL Individual responds

I fell for this too

AUTHOR: Natalie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, August 15, 2004

I got a call last Monday from a company saying I won a diamond watch and I would get five magazine subscriptions for two years. They said it was only $14 a month for two years so I agreed and then their billing guy had to call me back. I gave him my credit card # and then he said the magazines were $58 a month for one year instead of one year. I foolishly agreed to that. I got off the phone and realized that $14 x 24 payments is about $300 and $58 for one year is about $700.

I called my bank that night to report my credit card as lost or stolen and I was given a new number. They also immediately charged my account and I got that taken off. They called me yesterday to confirm my order and I told the lady I didn't want it and I wanted to cancel and she said okay. I also got their letter in the mail where you can cancel and sent that in yesterday certified mail.

Their letter says you can only cancel within 10 days of first agreeing to it or 3 days from recieving that letter in the mail. I hope this crap is over. If not, they will be breaking the law.

i still have not received my magazines

AUTHOR: Laura - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, August 13, 2004

i just wanted to add an update to my report and the rebuttal. for the person who wrote the rebuttal, thank you so much. it's people like you who need to send a message to others who have been talked into telemarketer scams like these. please, does anyone else have any advice for me, or even someone else who this has happened to? i have already disputed the amount that i am being charged with my credit card company. i just thank god that i never gave these thieves my bank information from my checking account. just some words of advice for people who are getting these phone calls from magazines inc. just say no, i'd rather pay for one magazine or two magazines per month at the newstand, than be paying 53.00 per month for magazines and a free watch that i have not even received. sure, these people sound sweet and trustworthy over the phone, but try calling their customer service, after you have been stupid enough to accept the "offer" like i was, and you will get NOWHERE. anyone who this has happened to, please respond and get the message out there that these people are nothing but crooks.

magazines... they asked for bank information from a check.

AUTHOR: Sandra - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, August 12, 2004

It's funny that you wrote this because just last week a magazine company called from a 1-800 no. and said they wanted to sell me magazines for only 4.99 a month and I won a free watch.

I was going to do it thinking they would bill me each month. Then they asked for bank information from a check. They wanted the routing no and account no. If not a check then they wanted a credit card no.

Well I said no. And they are still calling every once in a while.
