Do Not buy a Magnavox TV unless you buy a lifetime warranty as well. I sware they purposely make parts to break just after the 1 year warranty is up. I bought a Magnavox 50 inch DLP HDTV from Sam's Club for $1,500 in June of 2006. It started shutting off occasionally around July of 2007. By November 2007 it was dead. I looked through the manual and found it's the Mercury Vapor DLP Lamp(bulb) that goes bad after 2000 hours. I called Magnavox and they said this is very common among HDTVs. However, they stopped making the part and said to try calling a part supplier. That's all the help I got.
So after calling around and looking on the internet, I found a part supplier in Miami that had 1 left for $475. So I have to pay another $500 for a $1,500 TV every 2 years? You have got to be kidding me. So my TV sat in my house collecting dust for another year. I would get so frustrated every time I walked by it.
Anyway, I just found a local TV store advertising that said they take trades. I thought ok I guess this is my last option, I'm sick of looking at this thing. I called and told the guy my situation, he said bring the bulb in and I can try to match it. He sold me a replacement for $200, not as bad as $500. So I'm waiting to see how long this one lasts.
