Majic Jack Internet telephone claims that you buy a $40 device that will allow telephone calls over the internet. It does not work. They send you the device, after you register and connect to the internet you get a dial tone but I have never been able to complete a call. They have a live chat line for customer service which I have worked with on 4 seperate occassions and they give the same faulty suggestions on how to solve the problem each time. None of them work and when I insisted on getting instructions for a refund the chat line hung up and said that they had solved the problem. That was not the case. This is most definitly a scam! Do not fall for it!

MajicJack Works

We have had MajicJack for over a year now. From time to time the quality of the audio goes down, but nothing that resetting the router and unplugging the majicJack, then plugging it back in will not fix. I will take a little inconvenience once in awhile over a $52 a month bill any day. Works just fine especially for the price I have paid for it.

I purchased my Magic jack at a national retail store after a friend told me about his and how great it is.I never saw an info-mercial or any ads for this before I purchased it,so I had no pre-conceived ideas of what was to come.I purchased it for $39.99 and that came with a year of unlimited calling.and 29.99 per year after that! They even gave me the option of $59.99 for 5 years !! This thing works great.I loaded it by the instructions and it took about 3 minutes to load the software and that was that.As long as I am on the net (or my hard drive is operating)I can make unlimited,high quality calls anywhere in the country.
What more could I ask for.Simply turn off your monitor on your computer when not in use.The monitor takes more electric to push than any other part of your system.It takes almost nothing to run the hard drive.I think that this is a spectacular piece of technology,and like it or not, I'll bet it hits big.It may undergo some growing pains and a few bugs may need to be worked out,but all in all fantastic ! I've had mine now for about 8 months and have not experienced a single problem with one exception.It does conflict with a program on my computer.Roxio Creator 2009 and it do not play well together.So far that is my only complaint.I switched to Nero-9 and continue to save huge chunks of cash with my magic jack.TRY IT YOURSELF before making a judgment.As with any new product there are going to be a problem or two that need working out.So lighten up a little,there are only a handful of complainers and thousands that are pleased as punch !! Have a great day giving AT&T all of your $$$.

it works perfectly with my computer and my laptop
not to mention last month i called using the majicjack attached to my laptop from england france poland brussels amsterdam germany
all calls were made to the united states FREE OF CHARGE

MajicJack Works

We started using MajicJack in November, 2008. We have had a few problems, but nothing that made us say "I want to spend $45 a month rather than $20 a year on phone service." It has been nothing that downloading the update or restarting the software couldn't fix. We did have to put a shorter phone line from the jack to the telephone. It works, and works pretty darn well, considering my computer is five years old. We have really had no issues that weren't fixable. And we have never had to contact Customer Support. Every question has been answered in the FAQ section.

I have had Magic Jack, since it came out. My Magic works just fine, and have no major problems to speak of.

When magic Jack first came out, there were problems with anyone running Windows XP Pro with SP/3. They have since corrected this problem.

Make sure that you have the lastest update which is

Also if you are using a router, firewall then you need to make sure to forward ports 5060 to 5070 UDP.

From your start go to run and type in "cmd"
Then type "configip/all"

If that does not correct your problem, the follow the following:

1. Click Start button and open Control Panel.

2. Please double-click on Internet Options.

3. Under "Privacy" tab, slide bar down to "Accept All Cookies".

4. Under "Security" tab, click on "Trusted Sites" then click the "Sites" button..

5. Uncheck the box at bottom left of window that says "Require Server Verification..."

6. Type the following address into the text bar:

7. Please click the "Add" button.

8. Now type in the following address: and click "Add".

9. Click "OK" button then click "Apply" button.

10. Close the Internet Options.

Then do the following:

1. Please click Start button on your desktop.

2. Please select Control Panel then open on "Network Connections".

3. In there, please right-click on your active Internet connection and select "Properties".

4. Scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click it.

5. click on "Properties" button.

6. In there, check the little circle that says "Use the following DNS Server address".

This is the only thing that I do not like about magic jack, is that they make it almost impossible to get to the live chat.

The other problem I have with Magic Jack, is that there is no way to get in touch with them via the phone.

Other than that I have no problem with Magic Jack, and has been working for me ever since I installed it.

Was going to get BUT

I was going to buy this today. BUT, I needed some questions answered first. On the website, they say using your own land phone number will be coming soon with a fee. And I wanted to find out when and how much. Got on the live chat on the website. asked my question, using VERY simple words. Over and over a few times, same answer BUT not to the question I asked.
Finally typed in asking for a customer server phone number. Answer they do not have a phone number!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the repeated answer to the wrong question seemed like from a robot?? not another thinking person.
There is no email address on the web page. u can not talk to a real live person.
Also thinking, is your computer safe, and the info on it.
Makes me recall 911, will not buy something from a company that HAS NO PHONE NUMBER. And you do not know where they are.
