I am a dental student and recently had my car totalled. Since I don't have much free time I searched the internet and found a nice 99 camry at nissan of garden city and decided to buy it. It is a nice car with low miles, no scratches or dents but it was extremely filthy both on the outside and inside (numerous coffe and mud stains all over the seats and carpet).

The saleman, Shaun Banks, assured me that when I picked up the car, it would basically look like new. He said thay would wash and wax the outside, and steam clean the inside to remove the stains- plus he said the oil would be changed (it was very black). However, when I went to pick up the car it had not been washed either on the inside or the outside, nor was the oil changed.

I refused to pick up the car looking like such a mess. When a manager came over, he said that because it was a used car they were not obliged to clean it or changed the oil. When I then told him that I was not going to buy the car is such condition he quickly said that they would do me a "favor" and clean the inside and out plus an oil change if I could pick up the car the next day (a sunday) at 5pm.

On sunday at 3pm I recieved a call from the salesman Shaun Banks, saying that my car would not be ready until monday becuase they had to many other cars to prepare- and that I had to pick it up before 3pm- which would force me to take a half day off from school (I live 1 hour from the dealer).

When I came in monday the car was washed on the outside but the inside still had not been touched (carpets were black and the seats were heavily stained) and the oil was not changed. When I showed the manager that the oil had not been changed he said that he "did not know what clean oil looks like so he couldnt tell if the oil was changed." When I showed the manager the numerous stains on the inside he said in a very rude and abrupt manner that they were not responsibe to clean the car and I should be happy they cleaned the outside- stating that they normally charge $400 to clean used cars.

I then had to wait almost 3 hours to pay for the car and sign the final contract-when I asked the manager and the salesman what the hold up was they told me that the dealership was very busy and I should just be patient- even though I was the only one in the dealership at the time.

Again since I don't have many days off and needed transportation I took the car anyway. However, I have never seen such a group of dishonest rude and incompetant dealers. I would strongly recommend people looking to buy a car to avoid nissan of garden city.

Should Have Walked

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, January 23, 2005

You should have walked away from the deal. By buying the car after being treated in such a manner, you are just rewarding such behavior. If you had walked, it would have cost them several thousand dollars. I'll bet that as you were heading out the door, things would have changed.
