Blueprint Engines aka Marshall Engines Kearny, NE

I bought a 355 Chevy short block for my car that I was restoring from Marshall Engines in NE. They had a good reputation with a price of $1,300.00 not including freight. I thought sounded like a really good deal, rather than rebuilding the old block for much more. I should have looked closer at the internet forums because I would have seen a lot more complaints with their products and customer service.

When the block was tanked and cleaned not all of the cleaning material was removed from the oil galley before they installed the galley plugs. At 200 miles it lost oil pressure.

The motor was pulled and torn down. The crankshaft, oil pump, main and rod bearings were scored very deep. Metal shavings were found throughout the bottom end. The camshaft and cam bearings were just fine. I had a machine shop turn the crank, install new bearings, oil pump, lifters and reassemble. They did not change the pistons or the rings because they were brand new.
Marshall Engines wanted the bearings returned to them for inspection, and like a fool I sent them all of them. I should have kept a couple of them for proof. Their techs said There is no evidence of shot material, However, they offered me a new set of bearings or a discount on another motor. Why would I want to buy another motor from them? I just wanted them to pay for the repair of this one. There was $800.00 worth of damage to the short block and their offer was no where near that.

I have been in touch with Marshall Engines by e-mail numerous times. In the beginning they would get back to me the next day. After their technicians looked at the bearings they stopped all correspondence and it appears they are just ignoring me now.

I finally sent a complaint to the BBB in Lincoln NE for help in getting this situation taken care of. They in turn supposedly sent the complaint on to Marshall Engines. I have contacted the BBB twice. I guess that was a joke also. I can't seem get anyone from either company to answer me back. Maybe they are just too busy with too many complaints trying to keep their local businesses operating.

This motor is now has 1100 miles on it and is still burning 1 quart of oil every 200 miles. The car is now parked until next spring when I might be able to have the old motor rebuilt here by a Professional Machine Shop. I may have lost the battle with this Co. but I hope this will help people see what kind of company Marshall Engines aka Blueprint Engines operates as and you patronize a company that cares about the quality of its product and customer satisfaction.

All I wanted was for them to honor a defect from sloppy workmanship. But instead, this is how they handle customer service.

This has been going on since May 30, 2008. Today is Sept. 18, 2008.

If you buy a motor from Marshall Engines be prepared for problems. If it is major problems Good Luck!
BEWARE - They probably will not honor any type of warranty claim.

Beware of Marshall Engines

AUTHOR: steel wheels - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 16, 2010

I to had a very unforgiving relationship with Marshall Engines.  I also purchased a rebuilt engine from them.  I would caution anyone looking for a create motor, look somewere else.  I don't believe that they care about their customers of the quality of the products they sell.

i would have to agree with big dudes coments on this report. they did not follow the procedures stated clearly in the warranty documents sent with every engine from marshal engines. i am a small marine dealer and have only sold 4 of there engines and installed 1 in my pearsonal vehicle that now has 100,000 miles on engine with no problems and runs very strong and uses no oil. the marine engines are on there 4th season and the customer is still bragging on the performance and reliabillaty. im sure that they would of had better results with the warranty dept if they would of just read and followed the simple instructions. im wondering why the customer would of spent anouther 800$ of his own money to have engine repaired when the warranty states that it will cover these costs if engine is defective? i dont think that we are getting the real story here or the whole story... annonymos marine dealer...

I am a Marshall Engine dealer My shop has had little or no trouble with thier products.

I feel this consumer isnt telling the whole story. Did he pre oil the engine as instructed in the install instructions? If not you will damage engine bearings and will void a warranty, it states clearly on the paperwork in a BRIGHT YELLOW install sheet to PRE OIL the engine, 2nd he states that he took the engine apart, this to will void a warranty with the manufactur due to the fact the manufactur needs to disassemble a engine to discover what went wrong. When the customer does this things can get lost and he states he sent the bearings back at a later date which leads me to believe that he was trying to cover up a he made during the install. #rd problem with this report is that he states that there was a problem with the cleaning and a oil galley was blocked this is unlikely since all of Marshell engines are spin tested for oil pressure and to make sure the rotating assembly is correct so the oil blockage would have been discovered at testing. The problem more than likely was the customers fault by not properly cleaning the oil pan and other parts and keeping his assembly area clean. Did the customer install a new oil pick up tube like the instructions recomend or did he use the old one? Sadly people try to cut corners on installing thier new products then complain  about the quality of the product purchased.

I have sold this companys products for 12 years and have no problems with thier products. I think this is a case of the customer inproperly installing his product blaming the manufacturfor his failure
