Matrix Direct is a life insurance company that spams constantly.  But even worse, they are liars and ripoff artists.

I applied for life insurance and my rate was jacked up because Matrix direct claimed that I stated that my father had heart disease before the age of 55.  In my original app on the phone with rep Craig Van Tichelt I plainly told him that my father had heart problems AFTER age 55.  Tichelt acknowledged that that is what I told him.  Matrix Direct claims that I told the person who drew my blood that my father experienced heart problems before age 55.  Why would I tell my agent one thing and the nurse something else ?  That's absurd.

Well, Matrix tried to charge me more and I told them that they were crazy. Here's what Tichelt wrote :

I have news for Craig Van Tichelt.  I held a life insurance license for 10 years.  I know a RIPOFF when I see one.  Matrix Direct is a spamming ripoff.

On the bright side, I was approved by a much better life insurance company, Prudential, and given their "preferred plus" rate (the cheapest rate possible).  Prudential is the life insurance that insured my father and thus they knew his medical history.  Prudential gave me the cheapest rate because I qualified for it.  Their guidelines are the same as Matrix Direct.  Matrix Direct looks for any way to charge more for life insurance.  They are liars.  Avoid them.

Has Matthew Collins commited Life Insurance fraud?

When I read the post from Matthew Collins I was saddened. 

Matthew seemed to be a nice person on the phone and the application over the phone was pleasant.  Two things that troubled me when I read the post  about me: 

1.) Matthew claims to be a 10 year veteran of the life insuranceindustry.  If that were true he would know that  I do not possess the ability to jack up his rate.   This is determined by an underwriter.  I am simply the agent.   I have nothing to do with the raising of his rate.  A 10 year veteran should know this.

2.) Matthew Collins appeared to be hiding something during our initial conversation.   All calls are recorded for obvious reasons.  At just over 3 minutes into the conversation(I went back to review it), Matthew Collins is asked about any past history of heart conditions in his family and he stumbles very clearly about his FATHERS past history.  NOWthis is where it gets interesting from a 10 year veteran of life insurance.  He signs an application (which I have a copy of) in which he clearly states his father had a past heart attack at age 55.  This is important because the underwriting insurance company, not myself, uses past family  history to rate Mathew Collins policy slightly different because of his fathers heart attack..  Hence his rate is adjusted. 

I only hope Mathew understands that his new company could deny a claim if he dies because of potential false and misleading information.  The whole point of life insurance is to protect the ones we love in the event of a premature death that would cause our families financial hardship. So, It would appear that over 15 dollars a month he is potentially risking the entire policy.

I think it would be sad that the persons Matthew listed as beneficiaries might not see a death benefit from Prudential because he is not being forthright and truthful.

In closing I cannot attest whether Matrix Direct spams a lot, as Matthew claims. I have no idea what that has to do with me, but it does indicate that perhaps Matthew is a tad bit irrational.  Is he mad at me or Matrix Direct?   I am no longer with them so I can speak freely and would not consider them to be liars and rip-off artists.  I would best describe them as a legitimate insurance broker.   I personally would not purchase a policy through them.  I think as an insider I can provide some insight as to why I would not buy though Matrix Direct.  

Mathew Colins was not happy with his experience and decided that rather than talk to management or an underwriter, he would try to tarnish my name.    I have been in the financial services field for 15 years now, with my concentration being in mortgages, and life insurance as secondary.   I have never in 15 years had to defend my good name until now.  If anyone would care to contact me please feel free to do so via Facebook.  You will also be able to see the section of the application Matthew Collins signed about his fathers heart attack.  I will make it public for anyone to see.    



In an attempt to contact Mathew Collins, he takes a rather sophomoric approach to my call by immediately hanging up on me after announcing who I am.  After several attempts to call him back he answers the call and immediately hangs up.
