I purchased a mazda rx8 about 2 months ago. IT only has  90k miles on it so I figured it would last me quite awhile. Right away it started acting up. It was stalling after it got hot. I called the guy I bought it from and he told me it was diagnosed by a mazda rotary tech and it may need a fuel pump soon. so i replaced the fuel pump. same problem ,the car kept stalling and wouldn't start after it was warmed up. Long story short I put 2k into the car and same thing. After countless hours of reading rx8 forums I decided it was time to take it to the dealership for a compression test. It failed miserably. good compression is at least 680kpa . The compression was 528-562 in rotor#1 351-383 in rotor #2. Then they told me the catalyst system was also junk. now I need to come up with 8100$ for an engine replacement. I just about fell on the floor when they told me and then they gave me a bill for another 95$ for the compression test. i called the mazda customer service hotline to see if there was anything they could do to help me seeing that there product has failed . This warrantee was for 8 years or 100k miles. They knew that the poor design of this engine was going to fail just as the warrantee ended. They will not help me at all. I will never buy a mazda again and I'm going to devote a lot of time to letting consumers know that mazda is bottom of the barrell!

Mazda does not take pride in they're product and will sell u a lemon guarantee!!!

Are you sure your issue is with Mazda? Whom did you buy it from? Did you have it inspected before buying?  Not taking their side; but I have a Miata I purchased w/ 45k on it. For a small car, it holds up really well.  Your issue may be with the previous owner. Who knows what they did to the car. As for the key fobs, that sounds like a PITA to have to deal with. You have to basically front run an expensive key failure every 18 months or so? If you're lucky...? As if I needed another reason to keep buying older cars.

I have a different issue with Mazda regarding them GOUGING customers for replacement keys that break periodically. It costs at a minimum, $625 to purchase a new key and get it programmed.

There is NO excuse for this kind of behavior from a company.

Mazda GOUGES its customers.

Stay away.
