This morning I was at a local McDonalds eating breakfast. I dined-in, and sat down watching the flat screen TV that they have installed. As I ate my breakfast & watched TV, I began to read over my recpiet. I asked for a water to drink at the counter. On my reciept I had listed " 1 Medium Water - $1.29.
So, like everyone else would, I figured a misprint/mistake. I go up to the counter where the young man is, and asked about it, expecting to get some money back. This older lady is beside him and proceeds to tell me that it is not a mistake, because i asked for a Medium it was $1.29. If I had asked for a small water, it would've been .27 cents!! According to her, because I said Medium, I am sucome to pay a extra $1.00! First of all I have ordered numerous "waters" @ McDonalds because of the outrageous prices of soda, and they just give you a small, they never even ask about size, it's always a small, unless you state otherwize. This guy happen to ask me the size, small, medium or large, I said Medium, never thinking it would have ran me a extra buck out of my pocket to go to these fat-large size frie guys that make wayy more than me. With the prices of everything now adays, that was the last straw!

So, he did ask what size you wanted? Why do you think he asked? Because the bigger sizes cost more! Oh man, I love it.  Who are these "fat-large size frie guys" you speak of? Man, I wish I could see inside your head, it must be a scary place.

mcdonalds water

AUTHOR: Tavon - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 01, 2008

I am a manager at a mcdonalds and the price of water is pretty much the same for corprate resturants but for private owned resturants the price is left up to the owner. the resturant I work at recently stoped selling 21 oz and 32 oz waters and 16oz waters are free. before we would sell 21 oz for .27 cents and 32 oz for 1.51 and yes 1 reason why med and large are sold at regular price is because during some parts of the year they have game pieces and we would sell our 21 oz at regular prices at those times...i just want to clear some things up...

A lot of places inventory the cups...

I have no idea of McDonald's does this, but when I was managing a gas station we did. It's possible that they had to charge you on medium or larger cups so that their audits would balance and the managers get their bonus.

Another explanation

Keep in mind too that McDonald's often has game pieces on their medium and large cups. They may not want to give those away for less than they paid. In my area small waters are free, and they don't offer medium or large.

See The Same Thing

When you ask for water at mcd's, they give you a small, clear "water" cup. IF you ask for anything else, medium or large, they charge you the regular soda price. 98% of the people who ask for a medium or large "water" are gonna try and fill it up with soda anyway. One of the few times I went to mcd's AND went through the drive through, they charged me for a large drink even though I had asked for a large water, expecting to get the water for free. I swung back inside and asked for the manager. She explained it to me and offered a refund on the charge for the water. I told her I understood the problem and didn't mind paying for the water, just wanted to find out the reasoning behind the policy. Since 98%+ - of the people asking for medium or large waters are attempting to rip them off, I can understand their view.

I didn't know they are charging .27 for water cups now, but then again I don't go to mcd's very often. The whole thing's kind of funny. IF they are charging .27 for a water cup, cause IF they do ask you what size water, THEY ARE PLANNING TO RIP YOU OFF. How many people look at their receipts? How many fools are gonna pay $1.29 for a paper cup full of water? WAKE UP PEOPLE! What are you doing in mcd's in the first place?

Nobody actually gets water

These people ALWAYS get soda. They figured out how to get it for CHEAP. Notice the OP doesn't complain about the price of the stuff he cannot get himself. I see them every time I go into one. They ask for water cups, and immediately check to make sure nobody is watching as they fill it with soda. I notice they never do this when the place is empty...only when it's busy.

Where is the rip-off?

Do you think that McDonald's has a free unlimited supply of water? They have to pay for the water they use. Why should they not charge you for the water that you ordered and consumed?
