AS Cal Poly alumni my husband and I chose Meathead for a local move - 15 miles total. At the estimate the young man was professional and told me that they would send 4 guys and it would take appox. 4 hours. including driving time. the move only was large items and no small objects or boxes. Additional insurance he said would cost almost as much as the entire bid and that they were very careful, nothing would be broken.
The day of the move they began late, even though the company is less than 1 mile away. Only 3 guys showed up. Since there was only large items to move one guy just stood around while two carried furniture to the truck!
Of the three young men who showed up one was visibly injured with a knee brace, limping, and compaining he could not take time off work. It made it very uncomfortable for my husband and I as he was hired to move heavy objects and clearly he was not capable of the job. At one point my husband had to move the tool chest HIMSELF! because these 3 young men were not able! And none of the young men were current student athletes.
And of the 3 young men, although nice enough, none of them showed any care in covering or securing the furniture during the move. They had no moving supplies and I was asked repeatedly if we had a dolly and blankets they could use.
Once the move was complete I was frustrated and irritated. Not only did it take longer than expected by already I could notice scratches on my side table. We paid them well more than we were quoted and I was visbily annoyed with the price I was being forced to pay for the move. I complained to the young mand who was "in charge" but he said there was nothing he could do. That was that.
Then the worst of all, THEY BROKE 2 FLAT SCREEN TV'S!! We had 3 flat screen tv's to be moved, the only fragile items in the move. they broke 2 of the 3 tv's. The tv's were taken off the wall when the movers showed up, they were on and working when the movers were there. When we plugged in the tv's after the move you could see the screens had been damages, there were faint white line in the center of the tv, and the screen would show any picture. It appeared as if the tv's were leaned against the side of the truck and then tied around with rope.
2 FLAT SCREEN TV'S = $60
After I called to report the broken tv's I was immediatly met with hostility and disbelief. The whole tone of the company changed. After numerous calls to try to talk to someone about a resolution I eventiually filed a report. The result was that Meathead told me the movers said they did not break the tv's. I took pictures of the tv's and told them they could come and inspect them if they wanted, I was local. I as so upset about the poor service, especially by a local cal poly student founded company, I asked to talk to a manager. No one was responsive and at one point a young woman hung up on me when I called in. After I called back she was not only unapologetic but sounded irritated that i wanted to speak with someone about the customer service.
As a result Meathead send me a CHECK FOR $60 TO COVER BOTH NEWER FLAT SCREEN TV'S! That was it. When I called to dispute the amount of the check stating that it was impossible to buy another flat screen tv, let alone 2, for $60, I was told by Meathead that the VALUE OF THE ITEM DEPENDS ON WEIGHT, NOT ACTUAL VALUE. So by that logic if i had owed 2 1980 huge old big screens I would have been paid way more for the items. I called again to dispute it and was again met by no resolve. At the estimate I was told that all customers would be called by the president to see if they were happy with the service, I was looking forward to the call as a last resort, but as many of their other failed promises, he did not call.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, it was a nightmare. As a cal poly alumni and someone who loves this community and wants out businesses to thrive i wish i could say support local business but these guys are the WORST.

#3 UPDATE EX-employee responds
Meathead Movers is Lying

I quit Meathead Movers because of how they treat customers.
Aaron Steed has a a marketing team that cruises the internet and has BAD reiews taken down... sometimes paying to have them taken down. they also are paid to write "good reviews using fraudlent names" and acting like they were customers.
Meathead Movers' so called "Professional Training" consists of a short video on how to move and just like little chldren, most people talk or ignore this video.
I've been on jobs where there were discusions on "how to get more money from the customers" with made up fee's and exagerating the price after the customer was "Promised" a lower price.
Aaron Steed (owner of Meathead Movers) will NOT pay for damages and when damage occurs, The meatheads are told to hide the damage and deny any wrong doing... they WILL give you the run around (they might only pay if a ripoff report is filed).
They purposely give a "High" number when offering insurance because they know that most people will decline the insurance because it's too expensive... that way they can destroy your $3,000.00 antique piece (which weighs 40 pounds) and only pay you $24.00
In the office I've heard everyone making fun of their customers, comparing stories of how stupid the customer was and how they "got over on the customer", what they found in the customer's drawer, etc.
i was present when the meatheads would park somewhere for long times and add the cost to the customers bill.
Meathead Movers also gives the middle finger (flips off) to other moving companies when they drive by. They were also seen doing the same thing to people driving Uhauls.
If Arron Steed cannot have a "Bad Report" removed, he is known for saying that the person was never a meathead movers' customer and they are just trying to give the meatheads a bad reputation.... too bad Aaron, you already have a bad reputation.
Too many customers are being ripped off and disgraced by Meathead Movers (who don't even know how to load a truck properly), That's why I Quit.
There is a reason why they call them "meatheads"....MEATHEAD = (noun) "a stupid person", 'a dumb jock", "a stupid oaf", "blockhead", "dunce", "fool"
I'm glad I quit, now I'm woking with a reputable company that treats their customers fair.

Unfortunately, I was a real meathead movers customer

Unfortunately, I was a real meathead movers customer and everything in my post was true, nothing was fabricated or exaggerated. This is the typical response I have recieved from them throughout my experience, nothing is their fault and everything is the fault of the customer. I am sure Meathead Movers can see from their records I was a real customer and my claim was filed through their company.
I am not a local competitor, I am a stay at home mom.
If i was offered insurance for $45 then I would have accepted it. I really was offered $60 for 2 broken flat screen tv's as unbelievable as it sounds. and one of the 3 young men did have a knee brace. What was described in the rebuttal was not my experience unfrotunately. Based on this rebuttal from the company it is even more reason I will never use their services again. I wish we could have come to a better resolution.

ANOTHER FABRICATED REVIEW

The above posting represents yet another fraudulent effort by a non-existent customer to damage the reputation of Meathead Movers. Frequently, unscrupulous competitors of Meathead Movers attempt to damage our sterling reputation by creating outlandish posts pretending to be a customer. We've thoroughly reviewed our records and have no record of a $60 claim payout to anyone in San Luis Obispo County.
We NEVER dispatch injured employees, in fact, our injury prevention program is legendary in our industry. Additionally, our suggested insurance is $45, so there's no way that was anywhere near the quote for moving servicves.
These claims make it very clear this poster has never had a Meathead Movers experience: thanks for making spotting a fake review so easy for us :)
Meathead Movers is and remains dedicated to providing the best customer service in the industry with a track record second to no other moving company in the Western United States.
