Local businessman Tony Blair of ChicagoQuickSigns.com gets bamboozled into print trade agreement with WVON in exchange for radio commercials. Radio chairperson Melody Span Attitude was uncaring, insensitive, unsympathetic, iron hearted & very cocky.

July 26, 2013 & Oct 14, 2013 Chicago Quick Signs and WVON engaged into a printing service partial cash and radio commercial trade. Which local businessman had to wait over 2 months to get paid from WVON. Constantly mislead and deceived for a job valued over $900. Mind you the check was only for $250 thinking WVON and I would be a great networking team.

Oct 10, 2013 an order for 10,000 flyers was placed in a trade agreement which station was to produce a 60 second radio commercial which I waited for 2 weeks to have completed. I’m just totally puzzled by the laid back service. No commercial was produced at all.

So I finally ask Mr. Terry Bishop who happens to be my representative to just let me do my own voice over. Which he agreed and given me time schedule which I waited for an hour and was insulted by the white recording engineer that I sounded like a cheap night club Dj, how insulting. So once again I had to bite my tongue.

3 days later after the recording I never received a sound check nor a schedule for commercials so I became very concerned. I called the station to speak with Mr. Bishop after numerous unreturned calls finally got him which he agreed to send schedule and commercial for approval. Well I got ½ of my request.

I have left 2 phone messages & emails stating my frustration & situation, hoping that Ms. Span would reach out and make good of the situation. She never responded. Finally I called the office again 4 days later and the she said that she didn’t have time to respond she was working on a big deal. Ms. Spann also hung the phone up on me. She was so bold and audacious I can see now where her staff adopted their slash and burn attitudes from.

Everywhere I have been in the past month I have seen the advertisement that I printed for the station. This really sickens me to see that they are benefiting from the advertisement and for me Chicago Quick Signs. I’m left with a tab of $346 plus the other printing perks of over $400 totaling $746.

Shame on WVON & it’s promotional department, management & proprietors. This is worse than black on black crime.
I’m very disappointed by the actions of such a great black owned radio station who has been a positive icon for the black community for decades.

December 2, 2013, I placed another email to Ms. Spann and she stated the “she had nothing else to say about the issue” so I guess I just have to pursue other measures. Wow is it that tough for a recognized black radio station these days to hustle local businessmen trying to make a decent living?

Ok the station has the power of the microphone and I have the power as a client / vendor to get the proper contract, receipt and understanding. I feel that I have been bamboozled.

Finally, December 3rd I receive a phone call from Mr. Pierre Cooper who is a staff member for the station who also made it known that he was the Ms. Spann’s husband. I wasn’t interested with his personal affairs. Our call should have been totally professional.

Mr. Spann presented me with some old documents which there was no consensual agreement. After explaining the dissatisfaction and a time line his only response was what do you want me to do. I replied present me with a timely schedule where I can be assured that they are being played it’s only fair. His response was it not going to happen!
