My husband received a phone call from Bobby Jones about setting him up with a credit card machine for his business. Mr. Jones made the offer sound so simple, easy, and affordable for a new business owner. Mr. Jones told my husband that he would only be paying $35.00 a month for the service plus 3% of charges ran through the terminal.

Mr. Jones did not tell my husband that he would also be incurring monthly charges from Northern Leasing Systems, Inc., a third party processor. My husband was not told that he would be prorated for the account from the time of startup till the billing date.

Mr. Jones told my husband that he needed to complete the forms (Mr. Jones gave him the amounts to fill in the blanks) and return by a certain time, in which my husband did, to receive a $49.99 rebate. Everything was a rush rush by Mr. Jones.

Upon receiving his statement, he (husband) has debits/transactions that he has no idea where they have come from. I begin calling and find that these transactions are from EVO Merchant Services and Northern Leasing Inc. I spoke with Sheila at Evo Merchant Services to find out why there were so many charges and was told that I needed to call Northern Leasing because they had debited the account twice. I called them and spoke with Wendy Watson. I was told that we were paying insurance on the terminal, in which, we have liability insurance that covers this. Mr. Jones failed to mention this. Needless to say, she faxed me the information for a waiver of current insurance coverage. That would take off $10.00 a month.

I then decided to speak with Bobby Jones. I called Evo and got a list of extensions since I didn't have a direct one for him and his name is not even listed with the company. Although, there is a Michael Jones.
Upon reaching Mr. Bobby Jones, I did ask him what his name was and he told me that it was Bobby Jones. I asked about Michael Jones but was told that I had no reason for talking with him(Bobby) because I wasn't the one who had signed the contract. I was also told by Mr. Jones that he didn't have time to walk me through the contract or charges, my husband should have read them. I feel that since I am half owner of this business, I should be able to find out what contracts are being entered into and what the cost (full) is going to be.

It was also understood by my husband that he could return the setup within 90 days if not satisfied. That isn't true either. I was informed that he was stuck with the setup for 48 months or we (husband) would be taken to court.

Mr. Jones told me numerous times that he and I should not be carrying on any conversation in this matter because we weren't the ones to discuss the account. Well according to the state of Tennessee, I am legally held accountable for my husband's creditors as he is mine. Therefore, I feel that I have a right to know what I will be held responsible for and so forth.

I am not justing reporting here, I am also contacting the Better Business Bureau for the state of TN but also the state of IL. I do not plan to just accept this and continue with the payments being debited from my account. I will continue my fight until the contract has been terminated.

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

I worked for them last Year I am glad I'm no longer in that particular sector of industry myself

AUTHOR: Danoush - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, April 12, 2005

My dear lady,
I'm Ex-employee of Merchant Services Midwest. I just recently moved to TX. I know Mr. Jones he has been in the industry for over 12yrs. He is the one that trained me to become a sales representative. I don't recall being trained to deceive or withhold any information from my clients. I don not concur with this acquisitions that you are making of this company. Just to educate you a little in bank card processing Linda they are two entities that are involved in all cases.

First, the processing bank which yours is EVO and then secondly the terminal in which in your case was leased to your husband by Northern Leasing these are two separate companies. As for EVO they are the processing bank in which it has over 1000 independent sales offices nationwide.

Therefore, if you called the headquarters and ask for Mr. Bobby Jones most likely they do not know who he is; unless you contact the specific office in which you signed the papers with. Dear Linda if your husband has signed the paperwork and agreed to everything and re-send it back to EVO there isn't much to bicker about.

In this day and age everyone uses credit cards he did the right thing for his business. If you guys went to car lot and you purchased a car and then after a month decided you no longer need it or whatever else the reason would you accuse the dealers for cheating you!

Anyways I am glad I'm no longer in that particular sector of industry myself. You know if you would have purchased the equipment instead of leasing it then you would have had $ 35 a month bill; because that would have been your monthly minimum ($25) that is required by the bank + your statement for ($10 dollars). We are living in the United States nothing is free, you should have read the agreement before your husband submitted it.

Best wishes
Dallas TX

Beware "Merchant Services" They've all lied, cheated or tried to steal my money

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 27, 2005

After having my own store for 10+ years, all I can say is. If I see or hear the words "Merchant Services" I hang up or run like hell. Every experience I've had with any entity that has had merchant services in their name has been bad or worse. Doesn't matter who or what. They've all lied, cheated or tried to steal my money.
