I have been a customer of Merrick Bank for several years and have always paid my account on time and always more than the minumum payment. I have worked hard to restore my credit after the death of my husband and a major decrease in spendable income and have finally gotten to the point that I am able to qualify for other credit cards. Yesterday I got a letter from Merrick Bank stating they were closing my account because I had opened too many revolving credit accounts. I contacted them thinking they had surely made an error only to be told no the account was closed and could not be reopened. When I asked why they would close and account in good standing they informed me that was their right. I realize as a consumer I should have been more diligent in investigating them before entering into business with them, especially after seeing the negative comments others had made re: their business practices. Just want to warn others if you are approached by this company with an offer of credit, RUN. Shred the offer and contact them to be put on a no mail list. They are predators with no heart or conscience.CONSUMER BEWARE

So, WHERE is the "rip off"??

No rip off here.
Credit is a privledge, not a "right".
In the banks eyes, you appeared to be going on a spending spree to them.
Just common sense here. Look at it from the bank's side.
And, ALL banks are tightening up their lending and overall exposure to loss.
Get over it.
