I was employed at a major U.S. Manufacturer. Two years ago I suffered irreversable injuries to my spine that requred several surgeries. I was forced to leave employment for my disability which I have been awarded benefits from Social Security Disability.

Upon the inception of my permanent disability I filed for benefits from Social security and from Metlife Insurance Company. After two years of submitting medical proof and three subsequent denial for benefits from MetLife Insurance company, I am left with no benefits from MetLife. Benefits I paid for monthly as an insurance policy in case I became disabled and could not work. This policy was in place and MetLife refuses to honor the claim. I have been through three MetLife appeals and met with over a half dozen Attorneys. Not one Attorney can take the case because the dollor recovery is not substantial enough to fight MetLife for benefits in Court. METLIFE knows these dynamics of the legal system and in my research has denied benefits for disability to many others who have submitted very legitimate claims.

BUYER BEWARE. The Metlife Disability coverage you are paying for is worthless. I submit to each of you who do business with METLIFE to cancel your policies and clearly send a message to this Company that it is not acceptable practice to deny legitimate claims.

I have been awarded Social Security for my injuries and METLIFE still denies that I have met the requirements of the disability policy and will not honor my medical record history. This will happen to you, it's not a matter of the "IF" in Life, it's a Matter of the when!

I urge all who have disability policies with METLIFE to review your coverage and and research this company yourself. Their claim denials are everywhere on the internet with people just like myself who have become disabled and are denied benefits. Don't take my story for granted, just see for yourself.

Insurance companies may refuse legitimate claims for long term disability benefits

AUTHOR: SonjaKathryna - (United States of America)

Hi, my name is Sonja, & Im with the disability rights group from Sokolove Law.  We have been reviewing thousands of potential claims where insurance companies like Metlife refuse long-term disability benefits to someone who has a legitimate claim. Too often, legitimate claims are denied because insurance companies look for every possible legal and technical angle available that will allow them to deny a valid claim. When an insurer does not live up to its end of the contract, they act on what is called bad faith.

For folks interested in learning more about bad faith practices of insurance companies, there is great information available at http://awe.sm/5o82i. If your claim has been rejected, I want you to know your rights and options. Call our office toll-free at 800-581-6943 to learn about your options and receive a free legal consultation.

Oh does this sound familiar....

AUTHOR: J - (U.S.A.)

These people are as crooked as they can be. They must get a percentage of denied claims. Unfortunately for MetLife, there have been some court rulings against them.

In order to get help with my situation, I first emailed Ted Kennedy. He forwarded it on to one of my state senators and things did happen.

If you have a legitimate reason that you are totally disabled, especially if you are receiving SSI, you should be able to get your disability.

They denied me for years until this ruling
(( link removed by ROR))

I had an attorney but he didn't know anything about private disability, he only knew SS. I got rid of him and took them on myself. I had a 250-page notebook of medical records, treatments, medications, etc. I sent copies of the notebook to the ceo of MetLife, the ceo of NCR (who I worked for) my doctors and my state senator. MetLife kept asking for additional time and I thought it very funny that the day the above ruling was made, they agreed that I was due my benefits.

Don't just sit by and let them do this to you. Start emailing, making phone calls, and assembling any medical records you can find. You can beat them and don't need an attorney to do it.

#3 UPDATE EX-employee responds

You're All Right...Unum Provident is a Crooked As You Get

AUTHOR: J - (U.S.A.)

As an ex-employee of the UnumProvident Corporation, formerly Provident, formerly Paul Revere Insurance, I can assure you that I know first hand what you're all saying. As a claims associate I was responsible for handling claims such as yours. I should warn you that your claims associate has very little control over any determination on your claim.

We were always instructed to deny ALL claims as soon as they were received. No matter what the disability and no matter what the situation was. ALL CLAIMS WERE DENIED.

Some people received these notices and never followed up. others chose to pursue the matters. This meant that most of the time, initial denials did work to save the company money when claimants didn't respond.

All claims were investigated to the fullest extent. If you currently have a claim with the company, don't be surprised if you feel you're being followed. Surveillance of claimants is a very common practice and this evidence is used to deny claims on a daily basis.

Business practices at this company and many other insurance companies is absolutely shameful.

Fines paid by these companies for deceiptful practices do not compare to the money they save by denying claims and destroying people's lives.
I left the company after a very heated discussion of one of my claims. The claimant was an anesthesiologist who had suffered and injury to his hand and was unable to continue performing his occupation. The policy paid a substantial amount of money in monthly benefits if it were a normal person in any other occupation but it fell extremely short of covering his living expenses.

Needless to say, at the instruction of my manager, I was forced to deny this claim over and over. This claimant lost his home, his vehicles, and other posessions but most importantly, he was forced to withdraw his children from college because he could no longer afford to pay.

It was the last draw for me. I could not continue to be a part of such a shameful occupation. I would never do business with them, let alone ever work for them again.
Ove the years, I have seen many published articles of disciplinary actions and fines taken against the company and I could not be happier. I pray that someday I will see it shut down completely.

I can only offer one bit of advise. DON'T DO ANY BUSINESS WITH THEM.
