I was contacted by someone who claimed they were a collection agency. They told me I had an outstanding balance of $6027.26 from a prior creditior METRIS. When I told them that they had the wrong person with the wrong address, they said I need to either make a settlement to pay some portion of the money or they would take me to court.

After checking my credit report I realized the obvious...that I had never opened an account with METRIS and that I did not owe a penny to these people. They tried to use scare tactics to get me to pay money I did not owe. These people are thieves and need to be stopped.
