Michael Hale Wrote Bad Check Houston, Texas

My name is Shuja U Rehman and other than working full time at CVS/Pharmacy as night supervisor. Because of the economic conditions and my son being in college I started to fix computers at home.  

On Friday (02-05-2010) I received a call from Mr. Michael Hale wanting to know if I can come up with 4 same computers and monitors by Monday (02-08-2010) . I told him that I will find out soon and would give him a call back. He said that was fine. That evening, I called him back and told him that yes I can complete his order by Monday morning. Since he is ordering 4, so I will charge him $200.00 per unit, otherwise I usually charge more. He agreed on the price.

Next day on Saturday (02-06-2010) morning I called him, that one of computers is completely ready he is more than welcome to come and check it. He said that was wonderful. He came to my apt. around 1030am or 1100am Saturday in his beautiful absolutely new shining black Mercedes car. I was very impressed with his car.

 I showed him the computer which was complete and ready and also showed him the other 3. They were all Dell computers with Dell flat panel LCD monitors and Dell keyboard and Dell mouse. He said that he liked them the only thing he wanted to add was the wireless card. I said I can do it, for another $25 per unit. He said that was fine. So, now the price was $225.00 per unit. My son was home too. He met Michael Hale also. He was very happy also that I got a big order.

Mr. Michael Hale said that if everything is ready he will like to pickup on Sunday (02-07-2010) after church around 1230 or at 800am on Monday (02-08-2010). Being a Super Bowl Sunday, he wont be able to come later on Sunday. So, he left. I walked with him to his beautiful car. I asked him for his business card. Which he gave me and wrote his name and a phone number by hand on it. Actually, he gave me two cards. I asked him why he needs four computers all of a sudden. He said he is opening a new branch, thats why he needs these computers. So, he left and I got to work.

He called me around 1pm same day that he will appreciate, if I clean all the computers and monitors after everything was ready. I told him, sure I will clean them.

I called him next day on Sunday (02-07-2010) around 4 pm that the computers were ready and he can come to pickup if he wants to. He said he is watching the Super Bowl game so he will come tomorrow morning around 8:30am. I said that was fine. So, later on that night, I went to work at my job.

Next morning on Monday (02-08-2010) I called him around 800am that I am home, he can come and pickup the computers. He said he will come a little late. I said that was fine. Just call me before coming. He called me 2 or 3 times before he came around noon on Monday (02-08-2010). He wrote a check of $900 and said, I can write my name on it myself. I did not want to take a check, but I had his visiting card, address on the check, phone number and basically, I was impressed by his new black Mercedes and new black suite he had on, so I took his check. I helped him in loading all the four computers, monitors and all other related hardware and cables into his car.

I asked him to sign a Bill of sale. But he said, the phone people are in his new branch, so he needs to get back quickly. I can fax it to him and he will sign and give it back to me. He also said that he was very thankful, that I completed the order in such a short notice. And he will need 3 more computes in 2 weeks. I said I will be happy to do it. So, he left.

His check was his company check. The name of the company is Statewide Investigation LLC. This check was from Chase bank. I also bank with Chase bank. So, I took it to the bank around 130 pm on Monday (02-08-2010). But the teller told me that she can not process this check and she can not tell me why. I was very surprised and worried. I made sure with the teller that if there was no mistake. She said no, there was no mistake.

So, I called, Mr. Michael Hale right away on the same number, I have been talking to him in past 3 days, but he did not pickup the phone. I left messages but no answer. Then I called all of the numbers on his visiting card. But all the numbers would have answering machine. Then I realized that he wrote a bad check and he knew all along what he is going to do with me.

I called my lawyer, and emailed all the details. He said he will call Mr. Michael Hale. But up till now he did not have any success either.

The photo copy of his check and visiting card are attached. I also posted a note on craigslist.org what happened to me. So, others would not get into his trap. A copy of that note is also attached.
