We got a free oil change coupon in the mail, so my wife went in to get the oil changed.   It was $25 for the oil and $8 for the filter... the "labor" was free though.   This is only the beginning.

The owner called me at work (my wife doesn't know about cars), and told me the tires were dangerously thin (a lie, but I hadn't seen the tires before she went, so I trusted him).

I expected tires to be about $400 total but he explained our car was special, and therefore needed more expensive tires.   He said it would be $480.   I reluctantly agreed after he assured me there were no other charges.   I verified this!  I talked to my wife over the phone and said go ahead and get new tires.

Later my wife calls me frantically.   It's a $818 bill!   He upsold her everything.  The rip off nitro instead of air, warranties, the lie about the oil change prices, and ... he added $193 of labor on after he assured me there was no other charges.

Buyer beware, this shop will take advantage of your lack of knowledge, use deceptive business practices like the classic "bait and switch" and then upsell you on things you don't need.

I would of been happy to pay someone to take care of the car, even if $818 was the total bill, but to lie to me and then manipulate my wife?  I haven't been this angry in years.   I purposely didn't go to his shop because I knew I would of probably got put into jail!

I did call him and ask why it was so high, and at first I thought my wife just made a mistake (screaming toddler can make focusing on things difficult).   However as I offered to trade him service from my company to his for the difference in what we originally agreed (a good compromise I thought) - he agreed and then ignored me for for months.  

He would quickly get me off the phone if I happened to get him to answer, and would never return calls and ignored my emails until I threatened (and did) to file a BBB complaint.

Bottom line: stay away unless you like being taken advantage of, lied to, and basically stolen from.    

I found another shop later that I do trust: (((competitor's name redacted))).   They worked on my Neon and were honest and helpful (as well as competent of course).

sorry, allowing you to give a competitors name would instigate others to just file against their competition, to only come back later to suggest their company, ..plus, if you post a competitors name more than likely they will show up on search engines as a Rip-off! - - your comments on this policy are welcome.
