Midland Credit Management is a company that will stop at nothing, not even verbal harrassment, to obtain money from a person. After receiving a rather upsetting phone call from them, I researched them online and found numerous complaints about their company. They need to be PUT OUT OF BUSINESS>

Rather than writing the whole story, I will share with you a letter that I wrote to their company.

To: Midland Credit Management Inc.
8875 Aero Drive Suite 200
San Diego, CA 92123

July 31, 2008

To Whom It May Concern:

This letter is in response to a threatening, abusive and distressful phone call that I received from Midland Credit Management on July 30, 2008 around 8:45am. Prior to this call, I had been under the impression that my dealings with MCM had ended in late 2007. Let me first give you a history of my experience with your company.

In 2004, I was contacted by a representative from Midland Credit Management who stated that they could help me to pay off a debt that I had acquired with a credit card company while I was in college. At no time did they tell me that they had purchased my account, nor did I give them authorization to do so. The representative claimed that they could help me lower my debt and avoid legal action from the CREDIT CARD COMPANY (not MCM) if I agreed to make monthly payments of $25.00 to MCM. Being nave and just out of college, I had no clue about what was involved with paying off debt, and I decided to put my trust in your representative. I paid $25.00 a month for about a year, until I was contacted by a representative who said I would now have to pay $50.00 a month. Again, not knowing any better, I agreed and began paying this amount for another year or so.

Eventually, I stopped receiving monthly bills in the mail from MCM. I made several attempts to contact the representative I had last spoken to, but I received no response. Months later, when I did finally get in contact with someone, I let them know that I was not comfortable making payments to a company that was not even sending me bills or monthly statements. There was no way I was going to arbitrarily send a check to MCM each month without receiving some sort of confirmation that my account was actually being paid off. Still, even after this conversation, I did not receive bills. Again, I refused to send checks to a company when I was not even certain that my money was being put toward my debt. Finally, in late 2007, I received a phone call from a MCM representative regarding my lapse in payments. I explained the reason and he agreed with my logic. I asked about the payments to MCM, and if there was really any reason to make them considering that the credit card company had not contacted me in over three years, and I believed that the debt was listed as a charge-off on my credit report. He told me that, unless I just wanted to clear the debt for personal reasons, that there was no reason that I should continue paying Midland Credit Management. I confirmed that I did not feel that MCM was helping me in any way, and that I would not continue making payments. He confirmed that this would be okay, and I believed that my relationship with Midland Credit Management was effectively ended.

Now, nearly a year later, I am once again hearing from your company. This time, the woman I spoke to was very verbally abusive. I told her about the 2007 conversation that I had with your representative, and she told me that MCM had PURCHASED my debt and that I was legally obligated to pay that debt to your company. At NO TIME was I aware, nor did I give authorization, for my debt to be purchased by your company. I did not ask for MCM to do that, and I did not sign any binding documentation to allow it. The woman threatened me with legal action, and refused to listen to anything that I had to say. I told her that she had no legal authority, and that she should stop personally threatening me. She said that she knew I had a job, because she called there prior to calling me at home, so I should be able to make monthly payments. Not only did I tell her that she was NOT to call me job again, I also found this statement to be HIGHLY offensive and presumptuous, as she has absolutely no knowledge of my financial situation. I let her know that I am pregnant and that she was really upsetting me, but she continued to make threats and be very aggressive. Several times I asked her not to call me by my nickname Ali but, instead, to call me Mrs. Barbieri. She did not abide by my request, but rudely called me Ali throughout the conversation. In all, she left me physically ill and emotionally distraught.

After the conversation, I researched your company online and found a MULTITUDE of requests for class-action suits, stories exactly like mine in which the person had NO knowledge that their account had been purchased, and innumerous complaints about your shady business dealings. It is imperative that you are aware that I will not continue to make any payments to your company, have every intention of contacting a lawyer to have MCM deleted from my credit report, and will pursue further legal action if MCM continues to harass me and cause me undue emotional distress. It is now very clear to me that Midland Credit Management has a history of questionable business dealings and poor customer service, and that you are NOT a reputable company.

Very Seriously,
