Today was my second day at my new job; I was to sell cars at Millennium Auto Sales at 4541 W Belmont Ave. Three days ago I went in because a neon sign had a help wanted signage.  

I spoke with the manager Chris Jr. about the position on the afternoon of 07/17/2013, after he got the owner of Millennium Auto to speak with me. We all agreed that maybe it was a good fit, I was told to start the following day 07/18/2013 at 10:00 am. The following day, I went about my day and started learning everything about their sales strategy, their ways of doing sales etc. As they say everything looks good on the first day, I had a couple of appointments that I made from incoming calls about the cars, I met with a young lady and her dad, her dad was looking to give her a New Hyundai style of car. What father wouldn’t give a beautiful daughter such a gift right? We all agreed they would come back the following day 07/19/2013 at 2:00pm.

At the end of the evening when it was time to go home, about 8:30 pm. The owner Andy mentioned to me that he was impressed with my performance; he stated that he is thinking about opening another store and would need a good finance manager. He said to me that I seemed like the right candidate for the job. He said it is good money, but another type of money, but that I would learn and make a lot of money. I left happy, knowing that it was busy, I took applications, and people wanted cars at this place, the phone actually ranged. I left thinking that the next day would be a profitable day, no doubt whatsoever.  And the following day I came in early before all the other sales people besides David, who managed to beat me. I already knew everything to do, and so I tackled the day and started to make phone calls to make sales.

Sure enough, as they say, “he who seeks shall find”. I saw an African American gentleman by the name of Lamont Williams, an airline ramp agent who was looking for a black 2013 Chrysler 200. I welcomed him to see the inside of vehicles like that one, because that specific one had sold. He looked at a couple of cars, a Nissan Altima, a Mercedes Crossover, and he decided to test drive a white 2010 Nissan Maxima.
He liked it, but the price was a little high since it was over 18K. He decided after driving a 2013 Chrysler 200, that indeed this was his car of choice.

The price on the back of the window was $15249.00, the actual price online was that of $14249.00.

Mr. Williams decided that he would put down the sum of $7000.00 as his down payment; his intentions were to have a note for no more than 24 months. I told him that shouldn’t be a problem, and then I submitted all documents with application to the finance and sales manager Millennium Auto Sales, Chris.

Chris told me to give him a couple of minutes and that he would soon let me know the details, I thought this is a done deal, Chris himself said that it was a good deal and for me not to mess it up. Soon after he told me he had my customer Mr. Williams approved through a bank at 6 % and that he was also approved at Wells Fargo at the same rate as well.  Mr. Williams already had another auto loan in good standing with them, so again it seemed like everything was fine, my customer and I walked in Chris’s office and started listening to a payment for over 48 months, my customer did not want it. Chris tried to push it on Mr. Williams and again my customer said no, forget it. My manager then told us both to wait outside as he would try to work it out with the bank; he himself came out of his office to where I was sitting with my customer and stated that he should take the 60 month deal. But again Mr. Williams refused, a couple of minutes later, 20 or so we walked in to the office of the finance manager again and Mr. Williams heard my boss Chris explain that the payment would be $497, my customer refused and said it was too much, he explained that if it was such a good rate, how could it be such high of a payment. So my boss explained that’s why it was better to go with the 60 month open loan, where he could pay it ahead of time if he would choose to do so.

So Mr. Williams said thanks EJ, and merely ignored Chris on his way out, I started to think this sucked big time, I lost out on making a bit of money and this guy had a credit score of almost 670, good job and 7k down. Seriously?

I went on, for some reason the numbers there were a lot different. See the car was $14249.00, tax is about 10% $1424.90, Title and Doc fee, usually is around $194+$150 or so. Total that sum and you should have an amount of no more than $16,100? In the end, the total of the purchase was about 16600.00, maybe the extra were charges for a warranty, etc. Deduct the total of down of $7,000, that should be a left over amount of no more than that of $9600.

Now if you grab that amount and go to, you should have an amount monthly as follows:

 24 Months @ 7% is $429.82

Now 9600AXD=X
60 Months @ 7 % is $190.09, the manager said about $200.

and finally  9600AXB=X
24 Months @ 21.95% is $497.79, exactly what my manager told my customer Lamont and I.

My customer left mad about the matter and went left, because he was told he could not get a payment lower than $497. Now, I understood my customer and I understood my boss, the customer wanted to save money and the manager was greedy. I thought I would bring it to the owners attention, see the used car lot gets paid on the loans it send to banks, but it also makes a ton of money on the cars themselves. So my manager could’ve lowered that price, even to 425, and still made a buck. But he let my customer walk out, commission of no less than $300-$400 on that type of deal. When I told the owner he went to meet with the manager, obviously it wasn’t a good ordeal, because when I walked in Chris was upset. He stated that I didn’t know what I was talking about; he started to say the amount of the car itself was $15249. But he would then put that the person was putting more than the actual amount. In this case $8000, when my customer in all actuality had only $7000 down.

So on my second day I learned another lesson! Fraud, tell the bank there is more money on the table, inflate income based on lies. (The reason we had all the mess in Wall Street and the real estate market.)

He then showed me how on his calculator, on the computer, it showed a different amount, then when I would try to say that mine said different, he started shouting hey! Hey! As for me to shut up and quit making him look bad in front of the owner, I couldn’t blame him for being mad, but we are all adults and should conduct ourselves in the most proper manner, regardless the situation. I showed the boss my calculations and then Chris showed his, and all I said is… “I don’t know how that is” Chris got mad, stood up out of his chair and pushed me, then he started to choke me for a couple of seconds, which felt like a long time, could be my adrenaline. I tried to back up and the owner got between Chris and I, which gave me a chance to go for the door and leave the room. I ran for the first phone, stating in a calm manner that this would not stay like this.

I looked at my beautiful customer and told her she should buy elsewhere, there were other details about this dealership that I found out that same day, but that is another story. The 911 operator answered the call and I stated my issue and that I needed a police officer to come to the dealership for I had been physically attacked by an individual who clearly was out of control. I knew there are cameras everywhere, they were recording, and one if they lie, the truth will come out in the tape, and if the tape disappears, than that is prove itself.

The Officers took a while to respond, as usual. The owner tried to talk to me, told me he would pay me just to leave and not file a Police Report.  But I stated that yes; I expected compensation for my two sales, Mr. Williams, and Ms. Beauty. She showed up to buy the car right in the middle of all this commotion. Plus he hired me to work under someone who was clearly out of control and someone who actually attacked me, and had I not behaved like a gentleman, who may have had one of those incidents like that of Trayvon in Florida.

The Police showed up and filled out a report, they of course then changed the story, and the owner himself said that I had pushed the manager first. Which is a total lie, I just started, and I came in to work, to sell cars, not to fight with people. I was in a good mood; this manager just lost it because I was exposing his magic trick, why would I push him? I was trying to do what is right, I was trying to show the owner something that could be corrected and addressed before any moment went on. I live by integrity and work with honesty.

The investigators will go to see the tapes; hopefully I can get some justice and see this individual in Jail. He attacked me and made me lose my job, but now it may all be God’s plan in my eyes. He did not hesitate on guiding me away from a lying, stealing, cheating type of business.
