Where do I begin to describe how completely incompetent and awful this company was...

First, they gave us an over the phone quote of just over $500. We live in a 2 bedroom apartment and were moving about 20 miles away, so that seemed reasonable. When the men got there and began taking boxes downstairs, my boyfriend quickly realized how slow they were. It took them forever to get one box down because they refused to actually carry anything and put it on a dolly to roll down the stairs, one stair at a time at 9AM, waking up our neighbors.

In the time it took them to then put the one item in the truck, my boyfriend would be up and down the stairs 3-4 times with items, leaving the boxes for them to load the truck and speed things along. My boyfriend began calling the office to complain and the lady reassured us that when it was all over we would figure something out, because we knew that as they slowed down our bill was going UP!

They couldn't figure out how to get our furniture apart, so my boyfriend had to show them. They also didn't load the truck tall or tight enough and couldn't get all or stuff in. Almost everything was damaged during the move. Nearly every piece of furniture we own was scratched or broken.

It took them over 6 hours to get the stuff on the truck and another 3 to get it off. They couldn't figure out how to put our furniture back together so my boyfriend again explained it to them and the man put our bed posts on backward. We told them to stop, and that we would finish because we wanted it done right.

Afterward, when the mover was adding our bill, which took him no less than a full half hour to do, my boyfriend called the lady who was no longer there so he left a message. When he came at us with the total, $800, we asked what to do about or damaged stuff. He said to write it all down, which we did, taking another 1/2 hour. We were hoping the lady would call us back and tell us how to proceed, but she didn't. So we paid on our credit card (because we no longer had enough cash to cover it) and were charged a 5% handling fee for using the credit card. It took the man another 15 minutes to phone in the card because he couldn't correctly type in the numbers to the phone authorization system he was trying to use.

When the lady did call back, she said we would get an hour of labor off the top and an additional 10% off the labor because they were so slow and couldn't put our stuff back together. That should've come to around $150 off the bill. In addition, they had people that would come sand out our furniture and refinish all our damaged stuff.

When we called to confirm everything on Monday (the move was on a Saturday and they are closed on Sunday) she said she was only giving us about $40 back because they had already given us a 10% discount (everyone gets one when they do a phone quote or something) and they were taking that away and giving us the difference between the discount quoted to us when we called dissatisfied and the discount we had already gotten.

Her "crew" who does the claims for damages and the repairs was not available. I called her back the following day and they again were not available. I asked her if we were going to run into a problem because their contract says we have 3 days to make a claim for damages and it had been 3 days since our move (closed Sunday, no one to help us Monday and no one to help us Tuesday). She assured me we would not have a problem...but that remains to be seen.

We have always moved ourselves, which has never taken as long as they did. This time we wanted to get it done professionally to give ourselves the break and not have to worry. Unfortunately, this situation turned out to be the opposite of that. I have been spending everyday trying to get things straightened out with the rude office staff. In addition, nearly all of our furniture has now been damaged in some way. Finally my boyfriend and I worked much harder than the movers and it wasn't relaxing for us at all. We basically paid $800 to have damaged furniture, a 10 hour (+) move, having to reassemble our furniture, and we still did as much work as if we had done it on our own!
