This all started when I called an add that said "Management Trainee position" in the Rock Hill paper's classified section. I went to the first interview with Tony (who had previously been a NAVY recruiter, and I should have known at that point I was being taken for a ride) The interview went well, and I noticed that the other two girls, who were interviewing that day, were not invited back to the second interview. I figured that this was a good sign because they were not well dressed and kind of looked like they had just woken up and walked in expecting a job. At least this place was semi-selective!

The second interview was a group interview where one of the guys behind me fell asleep and Denny Mulhearn yelled at him and told him to "GET THE F#@$ OUT!" Believe it or not, this actually appealed to me in a way because I would LOVE to run an business someday where I can talk that way to people who waste my time. Anyway the only downside to me at this point was that I found out that I was going to have to do cold-direct selling using my personal vehicle. My liscense was suspended and my car was unregistered, I realized that this would put me at a higher risk of getting caught and going to jail, but it didn't matter since the training was only supposed to be 4-6 weeks long and then I would be ready to start my own office. Right.

For the next week and a half I walked all over Charlotte, Lumberton and Pembroke peddling my "high quality wares" until my feet were numb from the cold and my head was pounding from being stuck with chain smoking co-workers.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed selling the perfume. I did NOT enjoy the feeling of manipulating, lying and thinking of people as suckers. Most of my sales I made legitimately though, going through word of mouth seeing as the less I had to drive, the less likely I would be exposed to law enforcement.

The problem was though, on one of the "fun car" trips, I did have a run in with the law and my liscense was confiscated. Not that Denny cared. He said that I was lazy when I expressed my concern that I could be arrested the next time I got caught. And I did get caught again. I had to lie and talk fast to get myself out of it, but that is what I did. This is where I decided to stop and evaluate the situation.

-I had all but given up a good job serving at a good restaurant to sell a product that wasn't making me money but was in fact costing me money to sell, and this guy was telling me that I was lazy when I was simply affraid that selling his product would land me in jail. (He didn't care about what was in my best interest and he wanted me to quit so that I would feel like working for him was the only way I could hope to make money.)

-The people who had been training me had been there for up to a year and a half and they didn't have thier own office. (So much for 4-6 week training process!) -Denny who loved to harp on commitment and loyalty had been living with a woman and her child for God knows how long and had not put a ring on her finger. (Some commitment!)

-My bank account was negative, where it had been positive for a while when I was working half the time and was able to have a relationship with my friends and family.

And that did it for me. I am a money motivated person, and if this jerk thinks that I am going to be his slave labor and work for nothing (independent contractor) while he busts on my work ethic and tries to alienate me from my job that DOES pay me and my boyfriend who supports me no matter what. F*** him! So I quit. He told me" If you wanted to make quick cash you should get into selling drugs or prostitution!" I hung up on him and returned the merchandise that I had on consignment to Tony at the Exxon on Carowinds Blvd. Ian, my boyfriend went with me HOPING Denny would show up and talk to him like that.

THE POINT TO ALL OF THIS: Don't be a sucker, the way Denny put it was: " There is another sucker born every minute." PS- Denny, please tell your next batch of suckers to look this up,like you did with my group. I am not hiding behind anonymity and you know where to find me.
