A few years ago, we performed a galvanizing and color finishing job for M&M ironworks, at a different address then. We were promised by Mario Perretta, a known criminal, (unknown at the time) C.O.D payment, until he promised us future business and we let the material go. The job was for fence sections at the Inn in Newport, for which we failed to file a mechanics lien on because he kept saying we were going to get paid.

Eventually the account was turned over multiple times for collection, and we were told by their legal departments that there were various agencies collecting monies on M&M ironworks, and we were not even close to a chance of collecting. Upon calling and demanding payment, we were verbally threatened, and were told we were never getting paid. We gave up on the account, and wrote off a $14,000 debt which we still have not seen any money to this day.

In anger, we researched Mario Perretta online and found evidence that we had in fact been conned by a known criminal. He and his wife in the past had been accused of fraudulent check cashing, and obtaining monies under false pretenses. Their business is setup as an LLC to protect their assets from people they screw over. They operate a shady and deceptive business, possibly in various locations throughout rhode island, and could potentially be involved in other sorts of organized crime.

Recently an article of great note was published:
http://www.projo.com/news/content/lawyer_suspended_10-15-08_ROBU7HT_v26.3e28281.html

Cut and paste to browser the above link or google Mario Perretta, M&M ironworks

In this article, the First American Title Insurance company alleges that Mario Perretta knowingly accepted a $350,000 loan obtained fraudulently by the RI lawyer, who defrauded a Peabody MA couple on a mortgage refinance. The charges include: laundering of monetary instruments, and receiving stolen goods. Later on, a restraining order was issued, and assets of M&M iron and Mario Perretta were frozen.

This information indemnified us temporarily, assuming he would be tried and found guilty. However, I recently checked up on him again, and there is a new website, a new physical address, and they are currently operating a business again. I don't know how it happened, organized crime must have high paid lawyers. But I write this as a DIRE warning to anyone who considers doing business with M&M Ironworks. He is a criminal, a thief, and a good liar. DO NOT PERFORM any services for M&M ironworks. They are only out for themselves and are bad people.

During the course of the job, we were told by Mario that in order to secure payment from a contractor, we would have to sign a lein waiver stating we were paid in order for money to be released to M&M. This was also a complete lie. We were never paid, and the contractor, Trac-Builders would not compensate because the lien waiver had been signed.
