I stayed at Motel 6 from 10/9/03-10/12/03. When we arrived we found our room to be smaller than expected. We thought they would at least provide us with shampoo, or a hair dryer, but what do you expect from a cheap motel. On our second night I heard rumbling in the air conditioner and saw a bat crawl out of the filter.

It flew around the room until it landed on the floor next to my luggage. I ran out of the room and screamed and stood outside in the wind until it flew out. I called the front desk and they informed me that bats have been found in the air conditioning vents before. She acted like nothing happened.

The sheets were stained, had pubic hair, the bed was broken with springs sticking out. My pillowcase had a pubic hair on it and the pillow case was stained yellow. My keycard for the room was malfunctioning so I struggled to open the door for 20 minutes. I had to get a new keycard that actually opened the door. I wanted to go swimming, but the pool was green and looked unsanitary. The whole hotel experience was dirty. I will never stay in a Motle 6 again. I went to get ice and the machine gave me melted ice cubes!

They maids cleaned our room once the whole 4 days we were there because we told them to come back at a more convenient time when they knocked on the door at 10am. I know this isn't early, but it's a vacation and we wanted to sleep in. We never got fresh towels so we had to "work" with the wet towels from the day before.

Someone scratched our rental Mustang in the parking lot. We had to pay for that when we returned the car! I thought there would be a bathtub. but we had a shower with a nozzle that trickled water on my head. I had to take a long shower to even get wet. When we checked in the front desk woman was angry and said she had one room left and said "will that be a problem" in a mean voice!

The people next door to us had loud sex every night and banged the walls and we heard bed springs squeaking! We heard running water and loud talking at all hours of the night. I was so scared at night because I thought a bat would fly out of the vent and bite me. The motel had trash cans all around other rooms, but we had to walk out of our way to throw trash away and the trash cans were overflowing with garbage and so were the trash cans in our room.

Motel 6 gets an F- from me. Take it from my experience and pay al ittle more money and stay at a better hotel/motel. We paid $75 a night for a nice get-away and we got this? MOTEL 6 IS GARBAGE! DON'T STAY THERE!

#6 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Fired! because of what I said in my Motel 6 report

AUTHOR: Mary A. Hoeper - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, January 02, 2004

As of January 2,2004, I went to work, and was informed that because of what I said in my Motel 6 report, I am NOW terminated, the reason supposidly being,"employee misconduct".

I stand by EVERYTHING I wrote in that report. I have NEVER lied, NEVER have, and NEVER intend to!I have previously been trained by who I consider the best boss there was,and my level of expectation of excellence for the customers I served,NEVER waivered,no matter what it costs me.

Thanks to all the wonderful customers who let me serve them in the last 2 1/2 months. It was indeed a pleasure!

Sincerely~

Voice your complaint during the moment

AUTHOR: David - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 23, 2003

I read the original complaint a few days ago. It is ashame the "customer" let this go on for 4 days. I would have said something to someone the very first day. In fact I would have insisted on another room if that was the only motel around. One thing I make it a practice to do is to let someone know immediately if something is not as I expect.

After reading this report (and others on this site for Motel 6), I logged into the Motel 6 corporate web site and sent an online message citing this particular link.

I received written a response in the mail a few days later stating this was the first they had heard about the type of problem indicated in the post. They also indicated they would look into it immediately. In closing, they thanked me for bringing this to their attention. Now this could very well have been a generic letter but if they browsed this site for complaints that dealt with Motel 6, I am confident they will look into the matter and take any corrective actions.

It is fine and dandy to post complaints on this site, but people....follow through and make your point to someone as high up in the company as you can. You might be surprised what type of "positive" response you receive. It would also help if you would post (update) any type of positive response you may receive in order to help others.

Negative responses from the corporate entities would also be appreciated in that these are the companies I would positively not frequent since it would be evident they hold no regard for the consumer. The latter, however, is dependent on what actually transpired between the customer and business.

one Motel 6 had these problems doesn't mean they are all managed in the same way

AUTHOR: Mary - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 22, 2003

I happend to come apon this site by accident, how ever I found it interesting and would like to say a few words from a bussiness owners perspective. While I am not in the motel bussiness I have stayed at Motel 6 before as well as other lower rate motels.

Now adays one should feel grateful to have a job " PERIOD ". There are so many who are unemployed with families it is sad. My question to the person who wrote the complaint is...Do you always wash your fruit and vegtables that you buy at the grocery store? Do you use the toiloet liners provided in restroom? We take risk every day of our lifes and when you stay at a low budget hotel/motel things are not going to be perfect. Did you complain to the management or do you bash all bussiness's on line? The fact that one Motel 6 had these problems doesn't mean they are all managed in the same way. Often times the people who own places like the Motel 6 are people who have bought franchise rights, just something to ponder.

My question to the employee wistle blower, do you have a job now? Personaly I would never higher someone who toots their horn as they are walking out the door. If you were unhappy with your job and tried to reslove your issues with management with out resolve then leaving your job was what you had to do. But as an employee and your responsibility being the up keep of the Hotel rooms, if you saw these problems was it not your job to correct them? I know life is s unfair, my heart goes out to those who want to work and work hard and can't get a job!!!!!
Just a perspective from a person who owns a bussiness!

Sincerely

THE THINGS THAT MARY HOOPER SAID WERE ALL UNTRUE!!!!

AUTHOR: Natasha - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, December 21, 2003

I WORK FOR MOTEL 6 ST CLOUD, THE THINGS THAT MARY HOOPER SAID WERE ALL UNTRUE!!!!

I AM A FRONT DESK CLERK, NOT A HOUSEKEEPER, BUT I HAVE FILLED IN FOR HOUSEKEEPERS WHEN THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO COME IN, MARY SAID WE DONT USE PILLOW CASES, AND THAT THERE IS MOLD ON THE WALLS, I THINK IF THAT WERE TRUE, WE WOULD HAVE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS.

SHE ALSO STATES THAT SHE HAS COLLECTED VARIOUS COMMENT CARD WITH MANY NEGATIVE RESPONSIS, ONE INPETICULAR WAS ABOUT WORK MAN WORKING 20 HR DAYS AND HAVING TO STAND IN THE LOBBY FOR ID CHECK, WELL IT IS REQUIRED BY LAW THAT WE CHECK ALL IDS, ITS SAFTEY AND SECURITY, MARY IS A HOUSEKEPPER NOT A FRONT DESK CLERK!!!!!!

I READ EVERY SINGLE COMMENT CARD THAT WE RECIVE, AND THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A COMPLAINT ABOUT DRIPPY AIRCONDITIONERS OR STAINS ON ANY OF MY BEDS IN MY MOTEL.

MARY ALSO SAYS THAT TO GET ANYWHERE WITH OUR COMPANY YOU HAVE TO BE A LIER STEALER OR CHEATER, WELL MARY MY ADVICE TO YOU IS TO QUIT IF U HAVE SUCH A PROBLEM WITH US THEN JUST QUIT!!!!!
EVERYTHING THAT YOU SAID WAS A LOAD OF GARBAGE, MAYBE YOU SHOULD STOP FEELING SORRY FOR YOURSELF AND STOP LYING AND PUTTING EVERYONE ELSE DOWN SO U CAN FEEL BETTER ABOUT YOURSELF!!!!!

IF I EVER GOT THE CHANCE I WOULD STAY AT THE MOTEL 6 STCLOUD, NO QUESTIONS ASKED!!!

This guy is not lying!I work at Motel 6

AUTHOR: Mary - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, December 04, 2003

This guy is not lying!I work at Motel 6 in St. Cloud, Mn and want my comments recorded before they decide to "boot" me out and use the excuse that I'm a "disgruntled" employee!

My boss called me, asking, could I please come in and work on my day off, because they only had two other girls working, and they had 60+ rooms to clean. I said I could if they come and get me, because my fiaance had my car. My boss came to get me,which was nice, but when I was done working at 4:30 p.m,and it was time to make the 15 mile treck back home, I discovered she had gone somewhere and left me there with no ride home.(she was gone on a trip and had no intentions on being there to bring me home!). This was the main boss of our hotel that did this to me...not another employee!

As to conditions of the motel....this guy is 100% correct.I work there,I know. The mattresses are all stained, looking like food stains, urin stains, and God knows what else! Many of them are ripped or torn in various spots!

The walls have all kinds of spots and marks all over, none of which they give us adequete time to clean off.

In several rooms there is MOLD on the walls, around the base heaters, around the air conditioners, and in the grout on the bathroom tiles.Things are desperately outdated and need to be replaced!

They don't service the air conditioners enough.Since I can't take them apart and clean them,I see clumps of dirt almost falling out of the filters! But,all I can do is try to wipe away what ends up on the outside.

The pillows are definately stained yellow like the one guy says.I've seen that many times. And they don't even use pillow slip covers on them!

The carpet? It doesn't even look like they wipe up stains. It looks like they just leave them to dry??So,gunky germy stuff collects around the tables and nightstands,by the way it looks to me!

When I clean the rooms,I have collected various comment cards from the customers,complaining...anywhere from cold rooms, drippy air conditioners, not finding the motel because of their sign not being lit up at night,to construction men working 20 hour days and having to stand there for 20-30 minutes to have their I.D's checked.

They DO NOT promote a happy work environment!I get chastized for, from management to some other employees, for being "slow",while they are skipping certain procedures for cleaning rooms, and NOTHING happens to them! So,to the upper management here,it seems like speed is the name of the game,no matter what you skip and don't do right!ATLEAST when I clean a room, the rag doesn't come out ORANGE;from the build-up of grime and dirt that other housekeepers ignore! So,it feels like being honest doesn't count for anything.....only liers, cheaters, skippers,or stealers get anywhere there!

Sincerely,Mary A. Hoeper(worked at Motel 6 since approx the last 6 weeks).

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Color Me Surprised!

AUTHOR: Peter Pony - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 14, 2003

Well great goggly moggly, Color me surprised! You mean to tell me that Motel 6 is a budget-quality hotel at best? Did you honestly expect such amenities as designer shampoo, a hairdryer, fuzzy slippers and bathrobes, and on-demand room service and housekeeping? It cracks me up when people pay for a room at Motel 6, and expect to get the amenities and service of the Ritz Carlton.

Why would you choose the Motel 6 for a place to stay on a vacation, except for the inexpensive price? There is a famous phrase out there: "You get what you pay for."

Also, it sounds to me that you complained even when the hotel tried to satisfy you. Don't go complaining that your room was never cleaned, when you admit to turning housekeeping away every time they came by. You chose not to let them clean your room. Did you arrange to have them come back another time, or just assume that they would? My guess is the second one.

My consumer suggestion for you is: If you are expecting luxury hotel accommodations, a spacious room, free shampoo, a hairdryer, etc.... stay anywhere BUT Motel 6. Also, don't complain about services not rendered because YOU chose to turn them away.

Also - if you hated the room so much, why would you stay in the room until nearly lunch-time? If it was so horrible, wouldn't you have left and enjoyed your "vacation" at a much earlier hour?
