I contracted with this company to move my college aged daughter from one apartmen to another.  The distance between the two was approximately 3 miles.

 The day before the move, I had not heard from the moving company, so I called to confirm my delivery time window.  To my disappointment, I was told that I was not on the schedule, and they could not find my reservation request.  

 After a conversation that was tense to say the least, I was assured that they would make arrangements to move me.  After some calling around, my reservation form was found, but the dispatcher had to wait for the "driver" to come in for the night to get my delivery window.  The driver was still out at 9:30 pm, which caused me some concern.  At 10:30 pm the night before my move, I had a bad feeling about the situation that was ahead of me.  I was told my pick up time would be 10:00 am, but would receive a call when the drivers were on the way.

 Day of the move, at 10:00, no call to confirm my pickup.  I made several calls to all the numbers listed on the moving contract.  Most of these calls went to a voice mail box that was full.  When I finally was contacted, I was told that I was next on the list.  The drivers were moving somone in Richmond, VA, the SAME city I was in.

 At approximately 4 pm, more calls, more voice mails, no answers.   Finally, reached someone in dispatch, and was told that the drivers were now working a job in Virginia Beach, Va, and as soon as they finished would get to me.  It is now 6-8 hours after my original pick up time.  The driver calls and is very apologetic, that due to situations beyond her control, plans had been changed but they could still move me.  

At this point, I did lose my temper, I told them how unprofessional they were, threatened to take legal action and everything else.  They asked if it would help, they would pay the late fees to move me the next day, if I could call the rental office.  It is after 5 pm and the rental office is closed.  I told them I had to be out that day and couldn't cancel the contract and get somebody else at such notice.  I was at their mercy, and they knew it.   It was obvious that this is their method of operation, because the driver said you really don't want to cancel the contract, we can help you, no matter how late, we can get you moved,  I hung up the phone.  (To them this was a cancellation request).  

When I finally got in touch with dispatch again to see if they would be coming and was told that I had cancelled the contract and that they werenow coming, and now on the way back to Baltimore. I told them I was still waiting, and had no choice but to use them, because I had to move that day.  When they got there about 10 pm, the royal rip-pff began.  Paying for tape, drop clothes, you name it.  Plus a $500.00 cancellation fee that they had already charged to my credit card.

After slow rolling, one person standing while one person working, and the driver sitting in the truck, we are finally packed and ready to go.  Their truck would not start, and they had to nerve to ask me for a jump.  Unable to help out, they called a wrecker service.  Finally they arrive at the new place and begin to unload the truck.  First, everything on the ground, in the rain, then into the apartment.  I headed back to Newport News after paying $400 plus dollars.  I was asked if I wanted to sign the contract before I left, I said no that my daughter would sign after they've unloaded everything, and items inspected for damage, and set in place.  Driver said ok.  

Items slowly are removed from the truck.  Once piece at a time, in the rain.   Once they have unloaded everything in the middle of one room, they tell my daughter, their time is u.  They cannot do anymore without more money.  My daughter explains I had paid them in full that all she was to do was make sure everything was in order and sign the agreement.  The driver threatened to call the police on her if she did not sign the agreement.  

Upset, my daughter called saying the movers threatend to call the police if she did not sign the agreement.  Her father was put on the phone with the driver and of course they had a heated exchange.  Her father, who happens to be a lawyer, told the driver that my daughter had the right to refuse to sign the contract.  Driver, ignorantly, tried to defend her action saying that goods had been delivered in good condition, and she needed a signature.  My husband told them they needed to leave, before he called his lawyer!  They left, without leaving a contract.  The wet furniture, disassembled, stacked in the middle of the floor and hallway. My daughter and her room matse were left to sleep on air mattresses because their belongings were disassembed, and still wrapped.  (Fortunately, I had paid them for the cardboard and tape).

It was a nightmare!  Three days later, friends and I had to go help assemble bedroom furniture and entertainment centers.  Some of the furniture had warped a bit from being in the rain.

Never, ever contract with Movers Authority, Inc., unless you have time and money to throw away!

This customer's paperwork couldn't be found because she didn't send it in.  This move was hurriedly scheduled by her at the very las minute, and she was squeezed in to try to help her out.  

The customer was called at 2:00 p.m. with an update as to when the movers would arrive at her home.  She was very angry that they were not already there and she was verbally abusive with the driver.  After ranting for several minutes, the customer told the driver not to come and that she would figure out something else.

An email was sent confirming that she had cancelled, at which time she must have realized there was a cancellation fee because she called the office and asked what time the workers would arrive.  She said she had not talked with anyone and just wanted an update.  She totally denied knowing anything about the cancellation!  By that time the moving crew was just a few miles from her home, so they went to do her move.  

It was pouring outside, so yes, even though furniture is wrapped in blankets, some water will get on it as it is being unwrapped.  The moving blankets are water-resistant, so water will dribble off them during unwrapping.  Any water we see on furniture is wiped off, though.  Items like mattresses are wrapped in plastic to prevent damage.

All costs are explained in the service agreement which is sent to the cusstomer before they book their move.  This has to be signed to complete the reservation.  Also all costs are posted online.

The bill is calculated and collected before off-loading, so the off-loading time is just estimated.  Since the girls wanted furniture rearranged, off-loading took longer than they paid for.  Off-loading took an hour longer than they paid, but they refused to pay for any additional time, so the remainder of their belongings were put in the house in the rooms where they belonged, but not arranged and not reassembled.  

The battery on the truck died during the move and had to be jumped before it could go to the 2nd location, which could not be helped.  Other than that, this move was perfect.  No furniture was damaged; there was no damage to the homes whatsoever.

The rest of what was reported here is just a fanciful story.  The girls were self-righteously indignantly and verbally abusive to the workers the entire time.  All of them were very strange from the start, very blatantly lying and manipulating.
