Would the phrase "Lying Criminal Racist Bigot" be appropiate for Murdock Chevrolet and Josh Rocha. I think for Murdock Chevrolet and Josh Rocha this is the correct description. I emailed Josh Rocha regarding an 08 Chevy Malibu on their website. Josh Rocha emailed me back saying the car was available. Thats where things went downhill.
When I came into the dealership to look at the vehicle, Josh Rocha, who met me at the front and told me the vehicle was available but the price has changed. I was shocked. He added 1500 dollars to the online price saying there was a mistake and he meant to let me know before I came in.
But the worst part of it was my wife overhearing Josh Rocha and another sales guy named Blake or something laughing about how they raised the price on the "((((REDACTED FOUL LANGUAGE)))".
They knew I a "((((REDACTED FOUL LANGUAGE)))" would be coming in and they raise the prices for them people. My name is Lamont Brewster, so they racially stereotyped me before even coming in. I let it go and asked to look at another 08 Chevy Malibu. I took it for a test drive, and again disregarded the nasty attitude of Blake and Mr. Rocha.

I told them I liked the vehicle and wanted to see what they could do. The vehicle was 12800 with everything . When they brought the final price it was a shocking $18900. There was over 4000 grand in dealer fees alone. They said since I was paying cash, there were certain fees that needed to added in.  My wife and I left right after that and heard the comments "dumb ((((REDACTED FOUL LANGUAGE))) anyway" coming from Josh Rocha and the 2 other sales guys.

Not only is Murdock Chevrolet a bunch of liars ,but they are Bigots, Racists and Criminals.

Does you know what you are talking about? Nope.

AUTHOR: JusticeForAll - (United States of America)

I found this post to be absolutely HILARIOUS. This man obviously has no idea what he is talking about and is making a complete idiot out of himself. Firstly, you write that, "That is awful, we are in contact with Mr. Brewster and will file a class action lawsuit." A class action lawsuit? Really? You are pretending to be a lawyer and you have NO IDEA what you are talking about. Do some research on what a class action lawsuit is before you threaten one on another party.
Secondly, you are going to start a "class action lawsuit" against them for using the 'N' word??? Ha ha ha. Time for you to go back to the fifth grade and learn that all Americans are protected by the First Amendment. Freedom of Speech; does it ring a bell? They can call you ANYTHING that they want to. They can draw swastikas on every car window or hang Confederate flags throughout the building, and LEGALLY, there is nothing wrong with that. Bad business practice? Yep. Bad customer relations" Of course. But illegal? Nope. Not at all. I would REALLY love to the judge that hears your case and throws it out before you can even blink.
So before you pretend to force your pseudo-law on others, I would do some MUCH NEEDED research. (Your response could also use some much needed grammatical corrections. And by the way, racism in Utah is a two-way street.)

Why Didn't Mr.Brewster Simply Walk???

AUTHOR: Karl - (U.S.A.)

There are plenty of 2008 Malibus for sale and plenty of Chevy dealers. When Mr Brewster reached the showroom and discovered that a "mistake" was made on the price that would have been a red flag. The first racist comment alleged by Mrs. Brewster would have sealed the deal even if Mr. Brewster had believed the salesman. If it had been me I would have thanked the salesman at the door and driven away. As for others who commented on "extra fees" I'm well familiar with the extra sticker denoting "ADM" (additional dealer markup) fees. I just refuse to pay them and if the sales person insists, I walk. Actually when you tour a lot and see those stickers for ADM, paint sealant, pin stripes, etc. it is time to leave. Not all dealers tack on those fees -mine doesn't -which is why I deal with him.

ROR is full of stories about people who, through desperation, blind obedience, or looking for friendship, are led by the nose by salesmen when they should have walked. It's sad to read about these folks but they can only blame themselves.

AUTHOR: Angryparent - (United States of America)

My young daughter purchased a used Tiburon from your Logan Hyundai dealership around July last year while attending summer classes at USU. She recently tried to trade the vehicle in at a dealership in Sandy UT, and was informed that the vehicle had a Branded/Salvage title and was worth less than half the price she paid at Murdock Hyundai. She is now upside down approximately 6K. She contacted your Logan dealership and finally on Friday evening she was contacted by Ben Murdock who offered to buy back the car for "market value". (Meaning she will lose 1/2 the value) Ben Murdock stated the dealership had a copy of a document she signed  which stated the car had items repaired and that was (paraphrase) legally sufficient to deny her any claim. She has no copy of such a document in her paperwork provided by the dealership and she has no copy of Form TC-814 (Disclosure of branded title).

We cannot find any copy of any written notice provided to the lien holder (lender) or my daughter (at time of sale) that the vehicle had a branded/salvage title in accordance with 41-1a-1004.

Murdock auto group has been given the opportunity to resolve this situation legally, responsibly and equitably and so far has refused to do so.

My daughter continues to evaluate her options.

Mr. Dealer, your logic is flawed

AUTHOR: MovingForward - (USA)

After reading this report and the subsequent rebuttals, it is not difficult to see the issue.

Personally, I feel the same way Jim does about auto dealerships. As a consumer, we have to be extra diligent when purchasing a vehicle. When I get the type of treatment you displayed to the original author, or even the attitude you displayed in your rebuttals, I leave the dealership and go elsewhere to buy.

Your last rebuttal stated (paraphrased here) that each and every transaction would have to be reviewed by Jim in order to show the fact that you are honest. That is certainly not true. The fact that there are any extra fees charged, over and above the advertised purchase price and required registration and taxes proves Jim's point. The fact that you don't argue that you have those extra fees, you just fail to itemize them in your ads and your rebuttals shows your dishonesty. None of us has to visit your dealership to see what you are about, you gave us a good idea in your rebuttal.

I don't buy from dealerships that have dealer fees or any similar type of fee. I don't buy from dealers that say they have a vehicle they are advertising and then when I get there, the vehicle is mysteriously sold. As a consumer all we are looking for is an honest transaction where we know the price and any "add on's" up front - before we walk in the door. It's clear you don't operate that way.

Neo-n**i KKK Members employed at Murdoch Chevrolet

AUTHOR: Killing Racists! - (United States of America)

I fight racism all the time in Utah. This is absolutely digusting.
So Murdoch Chevrolet likes to use Racial Slurs to refer to their customers and charges illegal fees?
That is awful, we are in contact with Mr. Brewster and will file a class action lawsuit.
As a bi-racial I have fought racism all my life in Utah.
To see KKK bigots working at Murdoch Chevrolet is horrid.
You think its ok to call a customer a ni**er?????
Its 2011, how are you in business.
We plan to boycott and get this KKK Murdoch Chevrolet.
Btw - Keep your swastika's and confederate flags in your office!

That is an opinion, not a fact.

AUTHOR: MurdokPR - (United States of America)

I am very sorry for the negative attitude that you have resorted to. But you are absolutely entitled to your opinion, and I thank you for your feedback. In fact, I will be more than happy to pass your statements on to our owner, so that we can make sure that the practices that you complained about are not replicated here.
In our defense, however, I will say that a blanket statement on auto dealers is impossible. It is akin to claiming that all Italian restaurants in the U.S. have friendly waitresses. It is simply impossible to make a claim like that. (I also don't know how you can claim that we are so wrong if you live in Orlando. Unless you are at our dealership every day of the year, seeing every transaction that takes place, I suggest that you come up with proof before you accuse. And still, after our back and forth conversations, you have not brought a single shred of evidence to the table. Only speculation.)
So, Jim, I am more than happy to respond to your complaints. And I am truly grateful for your feedback, which I will pass on to our owner and each of the departmental managers. Should you have ANY evidence at all of any sort of misdoing, please contact us directly, instead of venting your speculations online.
P.S. I am sorry that I cannot include my personal email address so that we can sort this out between the two of us. This website advises me to "NOT sign your name, or include any e-mail addresses." But it is listed on numerous other sites if you would like to contact me.

Typical Expected Response!

Of course there are taxes which a merchant MUST COLLECT for a government entity.  The key word here is "COLLECT".  These COLLECTED TAXES are forwarded to the appropriate entity.  What consumers need to know is the merchant "COLLECTS" these taxes and does not "CHARGE" tax.  There may be a registration fee which again is COLLECTED by the dealership and then forwarded to the state.  There are some localities which have a tax as well and again the merchant serves as the collecting agent for these entities.  Nobody is arguing these taxes other than everyone wants them reduced.

Every merchant on the face of this earth has expenses.  Its called OVERHEAD.  This cost of doing business is figured into the PRICE of the product or service which the legitimate business sells.  It costs that Walmart money to pay people, pay utilities, insurance and on and on.  When you buy a pair of shoes at Walmart, the price you pay has their cost, the overhead and profit figured in.  They don't advertise a FAKE PRICE for the shoes of $15 then come up with "fees" to make the final price $40.  The REAL PRICE is listed as $40!  For them to claim the shoes sell for $15 would be an outright lie, because nobody hands the cashier $15 and leaves with the shoes.

But not so in the Sleazy American Car Business!  The norm in far too many stores is to advertise a FAKE price when they know full well that's not the real price.  The car may be advertised for $12,000 but in reality they want $13,500 for it.  Rather than operate on the principles of honesty and integrity and adverising the REAL PRICE, they try to TRICK the consumer into thinking the price is the 12k and then add on the bogus, fake fees to bring the price up to what they want for the car.  Is there something wrong with profit?  Of course not and that is not the argument here.  The bottom line is this CONGAME of lying to customers about the REAL PRICE.  If a dealer is so full of deceptiveness they cannot or will not use the REAL PRICE, then what other tricks and congames will they resort to???

Just about everyone hates the car buying experience.  Its not price, model selection, features or other logistic matters which they distaste, its the fact they are entering into an environment which is well known and well documented for its dishonesty and deception.  Once they buy the car, their next concern is will the dealer attempt to slime their way out of their warranty responsibilities if there is a warranty issue.  The use of the BOGUS FEE congame simply helps bolster their impression of the Sleazy Car Business.  They know most all other sectors of retail are NOT using these Sleazy Tricks.

Everybody knows every business has overhead.  Everybody also knows the use of "overhead" as an excuse to justify PRICE DECEPTION and the use of official sounding but very obvious bogus, add-on phoney fees is nothing more than a lame excuse to justify obvious deception in the Sleazy American Car Business.

Consumers...once you find a car dealer which does NOT resort to the use of these or other SLEAZY tactics, I recommend you make them a dealer for life.  Honesty and integrity is very, very rare in the car business.  However, when you find a dealership playing these add-on phoney fee congames, just remember, they are stating in advance they are playing a congame and it may not stop there!

Bogus fees???

AUTHOR: MurdokPR - (United States of America)

I will agree with you that there are added fees when purchasing a new car. Unlike anything that can be purchased at Wal Mart or McDonalds, a dealership has added costs that restaurants and big box retailers do not. You do have to pay State Sales Tax on a car. That can be anywhere from 2.9% to 8.75%, depending on the State. WE DO NOT CONTROL THE AMOUNT OF TAX ADDED; THE STATE DOES. Sometimes a transportation fee is charged. That is basically shipping and handling. Our semis have to fill up on gas, just like everyone else.
You may also be charged for tags and registration. Again. YOUR STATE CHARGES YOU FOR THIS, NOT THE DEALERSHIP. These fees will be charged to you ANY TIME YOU BUY A CAR, FROM ANY DEALERSHIP IN THE NATION. If they didn't, the Government would shut them down.
So, the only part of your accusation that is correct is that you will not be charged those fees at Wal Mart or McDonalds. A hamburger or a bag of groceries does not have to be licensed, shipped in a big-rig across the country, or subjected to government taxation like a car does. In the United States, we call this "Capitalism", and it ensures that we have paved roads, competent police officers, public schools, and clean water. ANYTHING THAT YOU PURCHASE IN THE UNITED STATES HAS ADDED TAXES. THE HIGHER THE PRICE, THE MORE TAXATION. (I cannot stress that enough)
I also welcome your proof that we are "slime" and "sleazy". As to the "congame" which you accuse us of playing, I again welcome your proof. We are innocent until proven guilty. And as we are innocent of any sort of corruption, I believe that proof will be impossible to find. As it is obvious that you have never worked at a car dealership. I understand that it is difficult to understand all of the processes that take place, but I can assure you that we are 100% honest, 100% of the time. (I cannot speak for other dealers, however.) When you claim that our fees do not go to taxes, I can promise you that we comply with the law and pay our taxes. We have never been guilty of tax evasion, because WE PAY TAXES. It is just that simple.
Lastly, I find your comparison of taxes and rape to be absolutely disgusting, perverse and wrong. Truth be told, your comparison is the only thing "sleazy" around here. I would appreciate it if you didn't joke around with such improper things. Thanks.

Bogus Fees Are Bogus Fees!

Its always interesting to watch dealership slime try to explain the typical con-game of bogus, add-on, phoney fees. For example, one excuse is "we always make full disclosure". So tell me, does any woman who is about to be raped know in advance before the event takes place? The use of BOGUS FEES is a mainstay within the Sleazy American Car Business. This dealership proudly proclaims on its website it will hit you with "documentation fees" and "costs of closing fees". Here's how the CONGAME works...they advertise a FAKE PRICE for the car...a price they will not sell the car for. To make up the difference they come up with official sounding names for PHONEY FEES! All the fees go to the dealer slime. They are NOT collecting the money for another entity like taxes. Therefore the fees are part of the price of the car. They are deceiving you about the price of the can you trust this pond scum with anything? YOU CANNOT! They think you are too stupid to see thru their congame. When you look at the more legitimate and integrity based retail sectors you don't see this cheap deceptive trade practice. When was the last time you paid a "dealer fee" at Walmart or McDonalds? Never! Just in the Sleazy American Car Business. The resondent to the original posting is sorry they got caught in the congame. If they wanted to "make it right" they can start 2012 by using honesty and integrity in pricing and get rid of their BOGUS, ADD-ON, PHONEY FEES! But since dealership slime never ever heard of integrity and honesty, it is just about guaranteed you'll see the congame continue.

#10 UPDATE Employee

I strongly doubt this happened.

AUTHOR: MurdokPR - (United States of America)

Mr. Brewster,

I would like to apologize to you for any bad experience that
you and your wife had at Murdock Chevrolet.

Firstly, I am sorry that the price changed on you when you
first arrived. Unfortunately, our salesmen are not infallible and do make
mistakes, just like everyone else. As to the second vehicle, did they happen to
tell you what those extra fees were? That is always thoroughly explained, so if
you happen to remember what they were, please let me know so that I can find
out why they would do that.

Secondly, I happen to know Mr. Rocha, and know that he, nor
any other employee, would ever use racial slurs in our dealership. I know that
they couldnt have racially stereotyped you based on your name, as the prefix
La- at the beginning of a name is very common in the state of Utah, as is the
last name Brewster. Flipping through a Davis, Weber, or Salt Lake County phone
book will better illustrate that fact.

You claim that we are racists and bigots? Maybe you
didnt notice when you walked in that we employ people of all races, colors,
and creeds. We employ African-Americans, as well as other races, and hold them
in the highest regard. So, while you feel that this experience may not have
been the best, I am challenging your claim that ANY employee called you a dumb n*****. We have never
had this sort of complaint before, so, in all truth, I doubt your claim. If
this sort of behavior was going on, I am completely sure that someone else,
either employee or client, would have heard it, and would have reported it. Our
employees know that that sort of behavior is absolutely not tolerated, so I
highly doubt that 3 or 4 would have used those words, knowing fully that their
jobs would be terminated if they were caught.

 Lastly, as you are
quick to accuse us of being bigots, racists, liars, and criminals, I
ask you, sir, where is your proof? What makes us criminals? If you have some
sort of proof that an illegal activity happened, please let us know and we will
be more than happy to take care of any problem or any employee that has broken
the law. If you dont have proof, then please keep your false accusations and
libel to yourself.

I will do my part and fully investigate this incident. I
will talk to Mr. Rocha and all those that could have been part of that
conversation. I will even let the owner know about the accusations. However, if
you have any sort of proof that this happened, we would greatly appreciate your
cooperation to present it. If this injustice actually happened to you, we will
reprimand and punish those involved. But if you just have an axe to grind,
which I believe is the case, please know that we dont employ any racist,
bigot, liar, or criminal. Nor would we employ anyone that used the term
n***** in a work setting. We strive to be the best and we fully believe that
we are.

If there is anything else that we can do for you, please let
us know.
