National Audit Defense Network, NADN, TAX 2001, IRS Away misrepresent, bait and switch, high pressure sales Las Vegas Nevada .....

Tuesday, May 20, 2003

Dear WBAP,

I am writing in regards to one of your sponsors, National Audit Defense Network. I feel they misrepresented their intentions and proceedures. They pitch a "FREE Tax Tips" kit, but instead perpetrate a high pressure sales job on your responding listeners.

I enjoy WBAP, but LET ME TELL YOU WHAT! If you do not address this issue, I believe it will certainly put a strain on our relationship.

I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,
Stephen xxxxxxxx

After one of their spots on your station during Rush Limbaugh, I called them at 866-TAX-2001, per their advertisment. An answering machine greeted me, and I left my contact info.

Later, I got a call from them. A man named Chris introduced himself, and told me I was eligible for their book and tape set, normally retailing for $29.95, but free to the first 50 of your listeners that respond (of which I was told I was one). He took my credit card info to pay for the $8.95 shipping charge.

Then, he proceeded to ask me questions about my income and explained their services. He seemed polite and professional. He requested to set up a phone interview between my wife and me and one of their associates where they would review my last year's tax return. They would tell me how much money they could reclaim from the IRS for me, then I could decide whether to purchase a membership with them for 2 years for $1,400 and get an additional 2 years free.

Suddenly, Chris told me to hang on. Instead of hearing his voice, a man came on and said his name was Tony. He wanted me to authorize his charging the membership to my credit card now - instead of after the consultation as Chris had mentioned.

I kept trying to tell him that I was not going to make a decision or authorize any charges until after finding out more during the consultation Chris told me about. Tony became increasingly pushy in telling me why I needed to pay him "now." I asked him to email me the terms of the contract so I could read and think about it. He refused and kept telling me I had 30 days to cancel if I wanted to. I told him I did not do business under a rush, and that I just wanted the free tax kit for starters. He persisted that I needed to "secure the membership now!" Finally, I told him that I was getting along fine with Chris and that I would like to please speak with him. He responded by telling me, "I'll tell you what, I'll just let you go." Then, he hung up on me.

Perhaps that was a good thing. A little miffed, I went to www.google.com and searched for "national audit defense network." The results were topped with a link to http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2002/02/nadn.htm. Another listing linked to a forum of unhappy customers at http://www.suite101.com/discussion.cfm/8182/65475. Here's a great site: http://badbusinessbureau.com/results.asp?q1=ALL&q2=&q3=&q4=&q5=NADN&q6=&q7=&submit2=Search%21(Do your own search and see for yourself how much negative reporting there is on this company).

Knowing they had my credit card info, I quickly called my bank and had them cancel my card. Although I lost an hour or two of my time and was a little frustrated, I consider myself fortunate to have lost no money like so many others.
