When looking for an eyelash extensions training company, I found a school that was accredited by National Association of Lash Artists (NALA). I believed this to be a credential that would ensure I had made the right decision on a training company.

So even though this post is not about where I trained, the training was absolutely awful. I'm talking photocopied pages from other lash manuals, ghetto staff who spoke "street" language, my trainer basically sat with her phone texting the whole time. And every time I asked her to SHOW me (instead of tell me) she just got upset and said I needed to practice. It was so ridiculous!  How this training could have been "accreditated" by any organization was beyond my comprehension.

I decided to look further into this NALA company and posted about it in an online forum. Turns out this company is a complete fraud and the only accreditations they offer are to those who PAY and go through some "jump through hoops" admin stuff. It's like corporate theater, you pay your dues, submit your curriculum, and they pretend to be taking awhile to review it. But of course, they aren't going to deny anyone (even though they say they do) otherwise this place I trained at would NEVER have been accepted.

I contacted Health Canada to find out more about them as well and they said NALA is not a legit accreditation company for lash extensions and they will be sending them the rules around the claims they have been making.

Some of the red flags I should have seen are that the website is hosted on a free platform and it just looked shady overall.

I also messaged the company I trained with and asked them more about this "accreditation." They were kind of shady about it and said well we're members of NALA so we pay for our accreditation.

So now that I need to be re-trained in lash extensions, I'm seeing a number of people with this NALA badge and I'm like HELL NO, but then I start seeing that every single one of them is nominated for a NALA award.

So I post again in a lash industry forum about this and the response I got was pretty clear - NALA runs awards shows to sell tickets and dinners and pretty much EVERY MEMBER who nominates themselves automatically "wins" because NALA knows these winners will share about their awards and therefore share their fake accreditation and everyone will want to be accredited by them.

So this whole accreditation is so fake but how did I fall for a site that is listed as https://nala.mykajabi.com/. What is a mykajabi?
