I enrolled with the Institute of Health Sciences to do a diploma in Acupunture by distance education. I was told that there would be teachers to guide me and answer all my question avalible to me from 8am to 8pm. I spent almost FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS and almost two years of my life.

I was enrolled for almost two years and in that time I was only able to speak to a teacher two times!! I sent countless emails and make hundreds of phone calls requesting help with subjects such as Anatomy and Physiology, Biochemisy and other equally difficult subjects but to no avail. Office staff confided in me that they didn't even have teachers for a lot of the subjects and that office secretarys posed as teachers to many of the distance students!!

I was also on many occasions given out of date course notes which didn't corosponde with text books. I was given wrong text books and one on occasion told I would have to do without a text book because they had run out even though I had paid for it. Course notes were so badly written and had so many spelling mistakes in places they were unreadable.

When I failed an exam they simply gave me the answers so I could re-sit it and pass because they didn't have a teacher avalible to help me understand the material! Then gave me the questions for my next exam so I could simply cheat and pass!

This school promised to provide me with an education and instead they simply took my money. I now have six subject courses that I spent $1995 on that I haven't even started and they won't even allow me to re- enroll after I quit earlier this year to attempt to finish these courses on my own. I propably wouldn't be able to study these subjects without a teachers guidence anyway and wouldn't waste my time re-enrolling anyway.

In a recent meeting with the so called Dean Ms Cherie Morley, Ms Morley stated that I simply found the work too hard. That was the first time I had spoken to Ms Morely after trying to get in contact with her for two years asking for help. Yes Mr Morley without teacher help and guidence students would find your courses impossible and wouldn't be qualified to practice on the general public.

This school is providing dipolmas to students who haven't been properly trained in subjects such as Acupunture. Would you like someone 'educated' by them sticking needles in your face, near nerves, eyes and major blood vessels???

They also provide (in my opinion) dodgy diplomas, certificates and degrees in Homepathy, Herbal Medicine, Naturopathy, Nutition, Remedial Massage, Shiatsu, Aromatherapy, Beauty Therapy

TOTAL RIP OFF

Cert IV Massage Therapy Practice AIAS

AUTHOR: Caathy - ()

POSTED: Sunday, July 27, 2014

Hi,
I'm making a report about the institute I'm currently enrolled in. I am absolutely shocked at the way they claim to provide students with great opportunities and skills, much like the person from another report about this very institute.
I enrolled at the start of this year (2014) to do Cert IV Massage therapy practice online, it cost me $2640 and I am unemployed so that money came from family savings. I was very excited and thrilled to have found something I was interested in studying after high school. I was wrong, very wrong. I do enjoy massage but I do NOT enjoy the school.

It started off fine as I managed to do most of it by myself, but when it came to needing my facilitator, they were no where to be seen. I emailed and emailed and emailed, getting passed around people, and when someone finally did answer they didn't know how TO answer or they would not understand the question. This was very frustrating but I kept my cool, thinking it was just a misunderstanding...but it kept happening with all subjects and with anyone I spoke to, including the receptionist who didn't know any of the facilitators.

I completed the two subjects I was given and enrolled in and emailed the head of Massage to enquire if that was me finished and when I would receieve my certificate. I had previously done a practical observation and the girl who did it was lovely but it was the first time she'd ever done one and didn't know what was in my course. The head of massage replied saying "congratulations" and basically said I'd finished.
A month later I receive an email from them, after applying for jobs and thinking I was qualified even though I felt like I hadn't learn enough yet. The email said that I had not finished and had four more subjects, "would I like to enroll?"...

As you can imagine I was furious, and very confused. I asked them about this and said "of course" to enrolling. Now, you think when you pay money for a course, they would enroll you in everything you needed to complete? right?....WRONG.

I've now done subjects the wrong way around without actually knowing much anatomy to do so, which is dangerous in my opinion and makes you feel very lost and neglected.

I'm now scared to start my 'new' subjects as I know it will be just as hard to get in contact with everyone or anyone. I just wish I'd looked into more courses and actually found this review before hand. The work isn't hard, the people are...which in turn makes the studying hard when you can't book things with the school or get onto anyone.

I have no idea what to do and I know I won't be able to get a refund. I'd like to run for the hills but I doubt that would help anything.

Oh and another thing, when i went in to do my practical observation, the people I'd been trying to contact for over a month all sat in the same room together on their computers all day...so really they just weren't replying...*sigh*

Update on National Institute of Health Science

AUTHOR: Cathy - (Australia)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 05, 2005

Heres an update for those of you following this rip off report. The Institue has apparently been banned from this site for threatening and abusive behaviour towards the editor so don't expect any rebuttals from them on this site.

Well since the last time I have to report that the instiute hasn't offered any kind of refund. I have been advised that since I have paid for courses that I haven't even started($1995 worth!) that if they won't refund me I have a legal right to be enrolled and to complete these courses, even though the school has said they won't allow me.

If they won't allow me to re enroll that I have that stand to take to court and try to get my money back that way. However if they do allow me to than I will use all the comments and statements that the dean Ms Morley made on record to back me up if and when they give the same old treatment as last time and try to get the full five grand back.

Ms Morley has stated on record that there are at least 2 or 3 and sometimes 4 or 5 teachers avalible for each subject and that teachers are avalible everyday and will answer students questions within 24 hours and a heap of other claims which i am quite sure they can't live up to as they haven't in the past. so i will re enroll, kept a full written record of absoulty everything and then use Ms Morleys own comments as my evidence when they don't live up to their promises.

I will be studying subjects such as biochemisy, muscluarskeletal anatomy and so on so I am sure that I am going to need daily help and guidence and clarification for each of these subjects. I will ask for all these numerous teachers emails addresses when i re enroll do everything by email so I have everything in writing and I can then show the courts that they do not provide the service they promise. It may take some time but I'm confident I can show the courts that I have a legal right to a refund, at least for these last five subjects. Thanks for your support.
