To start..I use to NTB and THANK GOD I do not work there anymore. My first day at that store I had been given an estimate to sell front brake pads, front brake rotors, rear brake pads and rear brake rotors on a '03 Toyota Corolla. Well I made a mistake and trusted the mechanic (Leo) and ended up selling the job to the lady. Well the next day the lady and her son come into NTB wanting to see the parts and wanted us to measure the pads and rotors to make sure we didn't screw her over. Well the brake pads MYSTERIOUSLY dissapeared but the rotors were still there. Another mechanic measured the rotors and found that the specs that Leo the mechanic had put on the paperwork were false. I was FURIOUS because I got yelled at and it felt like I just screwed a hard working woman out of about 400 dollars that she didn't have to spend. Now it's under new management but it is even worse. The new store manager Roy doesn't like to take responsibilty for his employees' actions. Oh and I'm sure most people didn't know that NTB has a 250% mark up above list from the aftermarket stores such as Autozone and Oreilly's. Yeah you're better off going to the dealership if you're willing to pay their prices. If you want quality work, go to the dealer because they can catch all your warranty recalls that you might not be aware of and fix them for you for free. If you want cheap prices with a reasonable quality then go to (((REDACTED))). Just whatever you do...STAY AWAY FROM THE NTB AT BAY AREA.

Did you and your other cronies

work there for free? If not, why not? Could have not marked up the parts as much then. Work in a building? Why? Have to pay rent then. Sell on the street and they can marked the parts down even more. As Robert said to someone else, you sure had no problem taking that paycheck that these margins help cover.

*sighs* OK that "suggested list" you talk about is the suggested list that the commercial department tells the repair centers to sell the part at. The very VERY sad part is that you actually took time out of your day to call Autozone to get a part number and price. You seriously need to get a hobby or something. You should try stamp collecting. That seems more down your alley. Anyway the whole point of this thread is about the unfair mark up and overpriced labor rates NTB has, not to argue with loser *&* people with nothing better to do with their time but respond to threads at 2am. Instead of responding to threads at 2am...maybe you should try and find a girlfriend to spend time with or something. GET A LIFE & LET IT GO "Robert"....

"OK I'm done...even though I know I'm right because I use to work at Autozone as a manager AND THEY ARE NOT A DISCOUNT PARTS STORE! When you get a receipt, do you see what the original price would have been THEN what the price you paid? NO! lol I'm done fighting with people who have NO CLUE what they are talking about. PEACE OUT! REMEMBER PEOPLE...STAY AWAY FROM THE NTB AT BAY AREA! SCAM ARTISTS!"

Okay Chris...pay attention. Right next to the price the customer pays at AZ, or ANY of the other DISCOUNT stores, is the "suggested list" price. Get it? No, you don't.

A set of Duralast gold pads #DG727 have a "suggested list" price of $54.96, while my "cost" is $27.48...the same $27.48 ANY customer off the street will get. I do not buy enough from AZ to warrant an additional discount, beyond the already DISCOUNTED price. They sell to EVERYONE at a discount.

If you had ever worked at one as management, you would know that. You don't, because you never did. Or, you did, and never understood what "profit" is, and how it differs from "profit margin". I'm sure you had no problem with AZ marking up their parts 100% or more. That is typical of everyone involved in the sale of the part. The manufacturer makes it, the distributor doubles the cost, the store(or chain home office) doubles it again, and finally, the repair facility doubles it.

If you want it cheaper than that, try buying directly from the manufacturer.

And the only one without a clue, is the guy who started this thread.

Let me elaborate...

They sell their parts at a DISCOUNT to EVERYONE. The only commercial "discount" they offer is to shops who use them exclusively.

NAPA, Carquest, Bumper-to-Bumper, Advantage, etc are RETAIL stores. They offer discounts(jobber and master installer) to repair shops. They tend to cut a little off retail(known as "list") to walk-in customers, but only because they have to try and compete with the DISCOUNT stores.

I'll assume you also try to compare the pricing at WalMart with that of Bloomingdales, and decide WalMart doesn't sell at a DISCOUNT.

DISCOUNT stores sell CHEAP lines. GOOD stores sell GOOD lines.

First of all Autozone and O'reilly's are not discount stores. They are an AFTERMARKET PARTS STORE. They sell to NTB and other autoshops at a very small discount through their commercial dept. and to regular cusomters at a regular price. Since you can't read very well, let me elaborate. There will be a starter that Autozone will sell to NTB for $120. You can go buy the same starter at Autozone for anywhere from $130 to $150 and NTB will sell it for $300 and charge $90 an hour for labor. The funny part is, with that kind of mark up you might as well go to the dealer. Atleast you will have a OEM part at either a cheaper or same price. Oh and if you would have read, I did quit NTB.

P.S. NTB is the only Auto Repair Center that has their own mark up grid. Everyone else goes by what the commercial dept. tells them what list is.

Those are DISCOUNT part stores, not retail. They do not sell anything at LIST price, which is why they state they sell at a DISCOUNT.

Good grief.

Take responsibility for your own actions. If you had an issue with the way NTB does business, then quit. I'm sure you had no problem cashing the paycheck they handed you.
