I am writing to inform all individuals about a Nationwide SCAM!!!! Friday 5-10-08 my husband received a call which came in on our caller ID as unknown caller. On the other end of the line was an man with an India Indian accent or Middle Eastern accent. He told my husband that he was wih th U.S. Dept. of Grants and that because we have never filed bankruptcy and always paid our taxes on time we were approved for a $5,000.00 grant. My husband did apply online for a grant loan about a month ago.

Anyways this guy even gave a emp. i.d. # and the actual address in Washington,D.C to the Dept. Of Grants so we assumed it was legit. He asked my husband what he was planning to do with the money? My husband told him start a small bussiness. The guy said all they ask is don't spend the money illeagelly. The guy asked if my husband had a bank account he doesn't but I do. So I got on the phone and he asked me for my bank's name,my acc.and my routeing #s foolish me I gave him all my info.!! He also said that the Grants program offer health benifits and that it was $9.88 to ship the info, and the fee for the grant is $29.99 and I need to make sure that my acc.had that amount in there cause banks charge a fee for gov. grants. I listened to the recorded inf. it was about the $29.99 fee and the $9.88 for the shipping of healthcare benifits. These guys are so slick it even gives you a comfirmation # at the end of the recording. The guy came back on and told me that the $ would be deposited into my account Monday at 3 p.m.

After I hung up I went online and discovered there are grant scams out there and that the U.S. Gov. NEVER CALLS, and that there is extensive LOTS of paperwork to quallify for a TRUE loan. Monday I called the Dept. of Grants and let them know about this and DID clos my acc. and opened a new one! I learned a lessn in life never give out ersonnal info. over the phone. Also SHAME on these swindelling A-HOLES who prey on U.S. citizens!!! Hope they rot in you know where!!!

I am writing as a comment to the Original Report.

I was recently contacted about receiving a government grant of $12,000 by a guy named Ricky Mafford from an unknown number.  He had a thick accent very similar to the two guys on the Metro PCS commercials(tech & talk), saying that i was chosen to receive a grant because i am one of the very few Californians that pay their taxes on time.  Really seemed weird to me cause he kept saying that this call is not a scam, and that i was very lucky to receive this amount of money for a grant.  Said that all i had to do to receive the grant money was to send a payment fee of $157.00 using Western Union money transfer and that my money would be refunded within 5 minutes.  I told him i coulnt afford the payment and he proceeded to give me a number(1-202-657-6376 ext:201 ask for Jack Dawson) to call when i did receive enough money to afford the fee.  Said my grant was approved by a guy named Jack Dawson.  I laughed when he said that name since i had just watched the movie "The Titanic".   The next day i got a call from the same person(Ricky Mafford) trying to pursued me into getting a friend or family member to let me borrow money for the fee and that i could easily pay them back after i received the funds in my bank account.  I told him i wouldnt be able to make the payment for the fee til my next payday, then he gave me a different number to call which was a phone number for a flower shop(1-800-550-3380).

I looked up these numbers with google and it seems there are many other people who are getting the same calls.  Thank bob i didnt pay the fee, next time i hear from this guy im goin to raise some hell!
