New Hope Pet Rescue Sold My Family Severely Ill Puppy Laingsburg Michigan

My family adopted a dog from NHPR who has now passed away. First off, they broke their own contract and completely lied to me through email. After we were approved to adopt the dog I was told after he was transported from KY to MI he would be evaluated by a vet before a meet and greet was scheduled. Roughly three days later they sent me the foster’s contact info. told me I had 24 hours to contact and schedule the m&g and if not they would adopt the dog to someone else. With that being said before this email they had already sent me an invoice to pay the adoption fee. At the m&g the woman told me he had an upset stomach from travel and a bit of worms he had. I found out later on this was actually most likely not true. We decided to adopt the dog. We loved him from the get go. The foster told us he was too young for the heart worm test so we would have to worry about that ourselves. Which is a violation of NHPR’s own contract they have on their own website. I have adopted from a different rescue and the dog was too young for something as well, they still made sure they paid for the service, which was really simply included in their rescue fee, I had assumed that NHPR was similar. They gave us some papers along with the dog which had nothing about any vet check on the dog, which I had been told would be done prior to m&g.

After a few days the dog started to cough and his "upset travel tummy” wasn’t getting a whole lot better. After just a week of having the dog he had to be emergency hospitalized because he became so ill. We then found out that he was just completely full of worms and he had developed pnuemonia from what the vet had guessed was a cold or possibly a flu from down south. My family spend almost 4,000 dollars trying to save the dog. After just two days at ER with an IV we could no longer afford the vet he was at, I tried to contact the rescue for help. All they did was give me a vet an hour away that didn’t over night like the dog needed at the time. He had to have an over night vet and to be closely monitored for at least two more days. After having to over night him at the same place again we found a vet the next morning which is where the poor dog lived out his last day. The rescue never asked me if he was okay or what was wrong with the dog when I asked them for help. They never offered any help with the huge debt my family has now incurred either. After the dog passed I asked them for my refund. They said they were sorry and refunded me. Still no one has contacted me to see what was wrong with the dog or anything at all. I am completely disappointed with the lack of compassion and care that I have seen from NHPR. The nicest thing they did for me was just refund me. Please if you are looking to adopt don’t go here, there are many, many other honest rescues in MI who are looking for homes for their dogs.
