Never spend money on a check until it clears from the issuing bank

So many questions. Why did they send you a check? if you did nothing for it why did you cash it? You should not have spent any of the proceeds until it cleared the issuing bank - not just your bank. You may talk to your banker about it to see if you can put in a complaint. I'm not sure what government agency this falls under, but you should check that out too.
