I bought a MacBook Pro laptop with extended 3-year warranty from Nice Electronics in July 2006. The warranty is with Mack Camera - on calling them to register my warranty they needed the bill of sale from Nice Electronics as proof of purchase. On attempting to call Nice Electronics, their phones were disconnected, and looking at their website I discovered they had just gone out of business! No bill of sale: no warranty, even though I paid $600 for it. I cannot dispute this with the credit card company as they don't cover warranties in disputes, and with no way of contacting the former company there is no proof on which to base any dispute. I'll be interested to know if there is any class action against this former company.

Possible proof of purchase.

If you paid by check or credit card, you can obtain proof you paid for the item from your bank or credit card and then perhaps they might be willing to cooperate with you.

If you paid by cash and lost the receipt, I don't know what to say except "lesson learned."

Also. I never buy an extended warranty. They are usually a waste of money and are just another way for the retailer to make extra money on the purchase.
