That is exactly what the letter said, the check was very real, with a real bank and its address, which I looked up online and it was there.

My husband presented this letter and check to me when I got home from work, it was 6:20 central time, which made it 5:20 eastern time when I called this so called claims agent. When I was connected to him,

he asked for my full name, phone number and the claim number on the letter and when I gave him the infomation, he said, that he would have to reserch this claim number and he would call me back with in the hour, I have not heard back from him, which started me thinking, so I began to search the internet, when I came upon this website. When I made the phone call it was the day befor Good Friday, so I figure he is waiting until Monday to call me back, after the holoidys.

Dear Consumers,

This is a known scam tactic (see http://www.consumerfraudreporting.org/anatomy_of_a_scam.php). The check scam has already been filed as a fraud case with the Hayward, California Police Department.

If you have any information, come across this scam, or am a victim of this check scam, please contact Cathay Bank at (408) 437-6188. The bank is currently investigating the case.
