Our 18 year-old son is attending a school in Kansas City, Missouri, and he needed transportation, so we decided to purchase a truck for him in Missouri over the phone in California. Our son test drove the truck for five minutes, which was not enough time to catch all the problems it REALLY had. During the 5 to 6 conversations we had with 'Jackie' at Not-Nu Auto Sales many questions were asked about the truck we were buying. Common sense questions like, "Does the truck have any mechanical problems", questions like that; and the ONLY problem that was brought to our attention over the phone was the condition of the air conditioner; and Jackie also claimed that she knew the party who owned the truck and that they, "Maintained their vehicles very well". So they addressed the issue with the air conditioner by putting in some free-on and then suggested having a mechanic look at it to see if it needed more service -- of which we agreed to do. But what she failed to disclose were the numerous other problems -- numerous safety issues that the vehicle had. The moment my son drove the truck off of their lot he smelled gas, and he also noticed that the "check engine" light was on and that the truck made a funny rattling sound. So he drove it over to Firestone in Kansas City and they ran a diagnosic on the truck for $85. What we learned was shocking! They discovered that the truck had severed leaking in the fuel injection system that would amount to $1,102.50 in repairs, and that the timing chain needed to be replaced, another $941.00. It also needed a new oxygen sensor @ $265.00.

We then brought these repairs to the attention of "Victor" over at Not-Nu Auto Sales and he ended up hanging up on my husband. I overheard everything my husband said and how professional and courteous he was, but Victor still refused to hear about what was wrong with the truck and was not the least bit interested in receiving a fax from Firestone. All he kept saying was that we purchased a truck "as is", and that the truck was now our problem. Before hanging up on my husband he said, "You know, at the end of this conversation I'm only going to hang up on you because you purchased an 'as is' vehicle".....unquote.

Firestone made the necessary "safety" repairs, and since the work was done we also learned that the fuel gage is broken and that the windshield wiper motor needs replacing because the wipers don't work. To fix the fuel gage problem they have to replace the entire system, so we quoted a price of nearly $900.00 to fix the fuel gage, and another $1778.00 to replace the windshield motor.

When I did a Kelly Blue Book on this vehicle it showed that a vehicle in the condition that this truck was REALLY in fell way below what we paid for it. At the very least we would like Not-Nu to reimburse us the difference of what we really should have paid for that truck -- not what we actually paid!

Jackie lied to us and completely misrepresented this truck and Not-Nu should be charged with fraud -- something covered under Missouri law under THE MISSOURI MERCHANDISING PRACTICES ACT which prohibits "false promises" and "fraud" and "concealment", etc.

It wasn't until after we purchased this truck did Jackie tell us over the phone that they "Never check the engine when they do a safety inspection"...unquote. Gee Jackie, the time to mention this would have been BEFORE the truck the purchased when she was asked about the safety inspection -- but she didn't. She waited until after-the-fact, when she thought it too late for us to do anything about it -- that's when she chose to tell us.

In short -- we were lied to -- and we never got stated promises about the condition of this truck in writing. Is there anything we can do in spite of this problem?

Thanks!

Jackie at Not Nu

AUTHOR: john - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, December 30, 2014

I was doing a search for Jackie because over the years I had delt multiple times with her on cars and always did very well. That's when I stumbled across this Rip-Off report. I do not recommend Not Nu after she left, but all my dealings with her have been so good, I miss her expertise, in fact, I am still driving the Astro van I bought from her over seven years ago, 300,000 miles on it, only maintenance has been wear and tear. I am searching for her because I would like to recommend her to my friends who need cars from time to time. I have actually bought four cars from her at Cash prices far below dealer prices and they all went another 100,000 miles after purchase.

Never had I had such good deals from rip off car salesmen, in fact, new cars were misrepresented to me so many times I got tired of being lied to, lost $1,000s because of depreciation. Jackie never lied to me and I saved $1,000s of dollars, if people only knew, all other salesmen would be out of a job!

..........and what part of "As is" do people not understand, that's how you get a $11,000 dollar car or truck for $3,000!

Satisfied Not-Nu Customer

AUTHOR: Homelysage - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 31, 2009

I have purchased two vehicles from Not-Nu auto sales over the past five years, most recently last December. Both vehicles are still in fine working order. Jacky is a good salesperson and I appreciate her low-key and factual demeanor - she makes the process comfortable and I recommend both her and the lot whenever I have the opportunity.

Not-Nu is an as-is auto lot. For the same reason you wouldn't buy an as-is home without an inspection, an as-is vehicle should never be purchased without an inspection. And certainly shouldn't be purchased after a mere 5 minute test drive.

The prices you received from your "car repair" location seem hugely inflated to me. If you don't know much about car maintenence (I'm guessing "no" since you spelled it "free-on") then a second opinion on car repairs is a mandatory.

It does not seem that Not-Nu is in the wrong here. They sell thousands of cars a year and are clear on their "as-is" policy. The blame here is three-fold: 1) College student falls in love with a car and only does a five minute test drive. 2) College student does not check all of the systems during the test drive (or, if they aren't car-savvy, did not take it to a reputable mechanic for inspection). 3) Cost for repairs (some of which may not have been needed) were not shopped around.

This may be an opportunity to teach your child a new lesson - the real price of not doing your homework.

You Contradict yourself

Jackie told you, you should get a Inspection by a mechanic. Yet you failed to do so untill after the fact of buying the vehicle. You accuse Jacky of Lieing, but you quote her as saying something entirely Different.

I have purchased Multiple vehicles from Jackie/Not Nu Auto Sales through the Years. The first vehicle I bought from her Happened to be her very first sale. As our family grew and our needs changed My husbad and I purchased 4 Vehicles from not Nu auto sales. I also took several friends and family members in who also purchased 3 Other Vehicles from them.

Jackie or Victor never lied to us about any of their vehicles. All of the Vehicles were very dependable.

Oh and another thing. Firestore is Good for Tires and a Oil change. You Paid Probably 2-3 times the going rate for your Repairs. Any corner mechanic can change a fuel pump, and a o2 Sensor costs less than $30.00 and only needs to be screwed in.

I think Firestone took you for a Ride not , Not nu auto sales. The Repairs you listed had they been needed would have ran you about $500.00 from a honest mechanic in Kansas City. The Timing belt well. The only way you know you need to replace a timing belt on a vehicle is because its already broken. Firestone would have needed to open the top of the motor to check that out and none of the other repairs owuld have required it so they lied to you. Ask any other mechanic. Better yet call another mechanic in this area and ask them what they think. They will tell you about the ride you were taken on. Being Quoted $5071.00 Never clued you in that something did not sound right? Windshield Wiper Motor, iS $80.00 Labor is $160.00. I guess your son failed to test it huh? And on the o2 Sensor? Was The Motor Revving on its own? How Did your Son miss that?
I feel realy badly that you got Ripped of, but lay the blame where it belongs. A teens parents call in to a mechanic and they are out of state and the price doubles. You should have gotten a second opinion.
