I visited a Nu U MedSpa here in Chicago. The high-pressure sales pitch was impressive, and I ended up being pushed into signing up for a nearly $4,000 "package" after being pushed into signing up for a CareCredit credit card so I could pay for these treatments. Nu U MedSpa didn't have me sign a contract with them until after I was approved by CareCredit.

I got facial injections and my first treatment in a series of 10 treatments. The photofacials and chemical peel treatments required 5 visits each. At first, I noticed nothing. Later, after 4 treatments of each (several weeks), I still noticed nothing, so I did not complete my sessions. I knew it was a scam at this point, and complained to the management. I met with the owner of the location, a Dr. "G". He said he would look into helping me. I never heard from him again.

I had already paid $700 on the credit card for the treatment I was satisfied with (the injections). At this point, I wrote GE Money Bank (CareCredit) and complained about what I thought was fraudulent advertisement by Nu U MedSpa. I included a copy of Nu U's website (showing the fraudulent claims) and a copy of a local news story suggesting that many people were upset by what they considered Nu U MedSpa's high pressure sales tactics and "misinformation" regarding their services.

After two more letters, GE Money Bank ended up refunding ALL my money ($3,648.00) including the money I already paid. The sent me a letter stating that they hoped this was satisfactory for me. That was in June, 2008.

Yesterday (December 22, 2008), I received a letter from Nu U MedSpa in Las Vegas. It said "Final Reminder Notice" and stated that, if I didn't pay them $3,660 in 10 days, I would be turned over to Transworld Services, Inc., a collection agency. This was the first notice I received from anyone about this issue. I called Nu U MedSpa, and they said my refund from GE Money Bank meant nothing.

The account number on the collection letter was not an account number from anything I had signed in the past. It actually had the sound of a loan shark threatening me if I didn't "pay up."
