Occidental Vacation Club is a Scam.  We purchased a " membership" while on vacation in Cozumel.  The company is based in the dominican republic. The sales people misrepresented the membership and just outright lied!  We were promised huge savings on the vacation and 30-40% of airfare.  When we went to book our vacation for the first time we found that there was no discounts on the airfare and after the required all inclusive fees for the food and drinks the cost of using the membership was more than if we booked with Expedia online.

We had already paid over $4000.00 toward the membership and found the membership was worthless!  We approched the President of Occidental Luis Namnum to request a refund.  Mr. Namnum first told us in writing that if we could show we could book with Expedia for less he would fully refund our money.  We did that emailing examples of Expedia trips for the Occidental in Cozumel Mexico that were less that using the Occidental membership.  Mr. Namnum did not keep his word has refused refunding our money.  Instead we were sent a contract to sign for cancellation with no refund and a waiver that said we would pay $10,000. per instance if we spoke about Occidental.  We did not sign.  We are currently planning to file a lawsuit with Occidental's US based office in Florida.  Do not purchase this worthless membership!  The membership will not save you money and Mr. Namnum does not keep his word.  I have looked at other web sites and found many other people who have had the same experiance.  We have never used the membership and they refuse to return our money.

Timeshare Scam

AUTHOR: margaretsims90 - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 15, 2015

The best advice is NEVER buying a timeshare anywhere. It is a scam and the so-called timeshare you buy is sold over and over again to other people. It is very difficult to sell your timeshare now and renting isn't in the deal. It will cost you more to buy a timeshare and maintenance fee than to rent a hotel room or a full ownership of a condo. Don't do it. There is good information about timeshare scams: timesharescam.com/timeshare-complaints-resorts-black-list/4-pueblo-bonito-timeshare-complaints/

Bait and Switch

AUTHOR: Baited and Switched - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, July 10, 2015

I wish to rebut what the Occidental rep stated in his long winded explaination.

When we purchased the Grand Level membership we were shown a beautiful 1 bedroom suite ( which they moved us to for the last two days of our vacation " AFTER WE JOINED" ) .

I havent seen that room since. The Rep stated extra emmenities - they include a sony play station - big deal. I have returned to my home base resort 3 times and I have never been given the 1 Bedroom suite that I purchased. The concierge always stated we are sorry sir those room are booked , dispite having made my reservation several months in advance. The second time I was at my home base resort Xcarete Occidental I was given yet another sales pitch to lower my interest rate if I upgraded to a 2 Bedroom Suite , in addition to a lower interest rate that gave me a all inclusive voucher to return within 12 months. The sales woman ( that no longer works there ) showed us a beautiful 2 bedroom suite with a third room in the middle containing a bar, TV and dinning table. The minimal cost was resonable so we fell for the trap again.

After paying the minimal downpayment and making monthly payments for a year we returned to Xcarete expecting the fantastic room that we were shown. Upon arrival we were taken to the Royal Club check in and taken to the room. It wasn't even close. We were given a corner room which was barely a 1 Bedroom suite. The room was tiny and with carpet stains and dirty cloth furnature. The second bedroom was the room next door ! But we did get the extras , plenty of ants everywhere.

When I blew a gasket and demanded to speak to the Vacation Club Manager I was told he was unavailable , I told the receptionist that I was coming to the sales office and I would stay there until someone in charge would speak to me.

After meeting with the project manager it was determined that what I was shown as the 2 Bedroom Suite  DID NOT EXIST in the Royal Club.  The 2 bedroom suite I was shown only exists in the First Club building and not the more costly Royal Club which I had purchased.

After listening to the forked tounge of the Project manager and the customer relations person they allowed me to stay in the First Club 2 Bedroom Suite.

You wait all year to enjoy a nice vacation and you end up spending 3 days fighting for what you were presented and purchased but never GET !!!

I have even stayed at the Grand Cozumel Occidental and believe it or not I never stayed in the room I purchased at that hotel either.

I decided to sell the membership for what ever but was told I had to pay my account off in full first, good luck on that.

I did find it funny that the sales staff was always different , just like most criminals they move around to elude detection.

Alot of money was lost , don't fall victim and finance this major scam called ," The Occidental Vacation Club "

Occidental Vacation Timeshare Scam

AUTHOR: SophieM - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, August 14, 2013

I too was scammed by Occidental Vacation Club. Unfortunately, I spent time every day re-visiting the sales office to get things clarified and in writing, but I kept getting pushed off ("oh yeah, we'll get that to you" - NEVER HAPPENED. it was a daily delay tactic). When we got home, I made many calls to the reservation line, RCI, etc. to validate what we were told. The biggest discount claim - that owners get 35% of the published all-inclusive rates every year is FALSE - you only get this discount the first year and only if it is specifically written into your contract. J. Sean Stacy, the project director, will tell you things to your face but will never follow through. When you try to cancel, he will claim that you will owe ridiculous penalties for doing so (which goes directly against the language in the contract) YOU HAVE AN UNWAIVABLE, LEGAL RIGHT TO CANCEL WITHOUT PENALTY OR OBLIGATION. They will have you sign a "FINAL SALE" document to try to convince you that you cannot cancel - THIS IS A LIE and is ILLEGAL (they also don't include this page in your fancy leather binder when you leave). Don't get suckered into paying a penalty to cancel the contract if you are within the rescission period. Bob Behrens is a typical sales guy - tell you what you want to hear and expect you to trust him - BAD IDEA. Greta Sanchez (the "legal verificator") is probably just doing her job, but she will have to live with her own conscience for scamming people on a daily basis

No Matter what you are saying the truth is clear!

AUTHOR: lauradowney36 - ()

POSTED: Thursday, May 02, 2013

No matter what you are saying in your long reply, the truth is clear. Short and simple.. I have shown the president of your company made me a promise... copy and pasted from the e-mail he sent me. I have shown expedia to be cheaper...that can be verified by anyone on the expedia website or I can send you the expedia quote from my email. Bottom line is that Mr. Namnum promised a refund if I could find it for less...I did find it for less and he did not refund my money. Period. I WANT MY REFUND!

We would like to address some of your concerns

AUTHOR: ITejeda - ()

POSTED: Thursday, May 02, 2013

Dear Mrs. Downey,

We would like to address some of your concerns:

Our commitment as a company is to offer our members superior accommodations, facilities and service while not having to pay more for COMPARABLE accommodations. Our facilities are bigger, regularly remodeled and with higher standards than those you can find at any travel sites such as Expedia. On every site we have club staff that caters to ours member’s needs. In addition to that, we have members only lounge and specific areas that regular hotel guests can’t have access to. That makes our product very much different from what you’ll find on a generic Online Travel Agent such as Expedia.

We have agreements with two different companies we use to offer our members airfares as a complementary service. Although from time to time we are able to offer discounted airfares, what we do offer are airfares in competitive prices as to make it easier to our members to plan their vacation.

What Mr. Namnum said regarding refund was a 100% correct. Our Discount Pledge (which you can find on our website) states that if you find a special rate and have already paid for your reservation, we will give you a credit note for your next holiday or send you a cash re – imbursement. We can’t compete with Expedia. That is not the purpose of the club.

Our rules and regulations are also very clear regarding refunds. After buying the membership, you have up to one week (depending on location) to cancel it and receive a full refund.  Although you requested a refund long after buying, we accepted and gave our best effort to make it. We mailed you the documentation, which you declined to sign. We tried our best to make things happen, but you walked away.

We do our best to fix things, give a good service and find a middle ground, what we can’t and won’t accept is unreasonable blackmail.  We have more than 24,000 happy families that speak on our behalf. We work day after day to serve them and provide them with exceptional vacation experiences.

If you ever feel you were lied to, we are sincerely sorry.  This has been addressed internally. Sometimes mistakes happen but we are eager to correct them and improve ever day. We are believers of open communication; we strongly believe in our product and have nothing to hide.

Regards,
