Over this past holiday weekend I saw a commercial for an up and coming location of Once Upon a Child that was buying clothing.  I gathered up all the clothes from my kids from last fall/winter that no longer fit.  Approximately 3/4 of what I broght was never worn.  Included was a high end designer boy's leather jacket that was only available at flagship stores and new retail was $800.00.  The jacket was only worn a few times.  Total I had two 30 gallon trash bags full.

I returned a few hours later to discover they wanted to buy nearly all of my clothes, who wouldn't a majority were brand new, designer label items.  They offered me $49.50.  In total new retail I brought them in excess of $4,000.00 worth of clothing.  If things are as advertised that they sell clothing for 70% off retail they would make $1,200.00 off the clothing I brought them and were offering me a measly $49.50!  I will never ever sell my clothes here again.  Do your self a favor and sell them through ebay or Facebook pages for selling kids things, or stick to an honest consignment shop.   If you are crunched for time and can't be bothered, donate them and take the tax credit (it will be more than what they will offer you)  I could have sold it by the pound for rags and been offered more.  A genuine rip off and waste of time!!!!!

I understand (for anyone going to comment about the stores overhead) that yes they do have expenses, ones that I alleviate my self of by selling to them.  You can't justify $1,150.00 worth of expenses or profit to be made on two bags of my  clothing.

Well it's been more than 7 days

As I already told you, I will let you know after the auction ends in 7 days how I do.

- Well it's been more than 7 days...so how did you do?

Where are the EBay Item #'s and links for your auction so we can see all of the money you raked in and how you did so much better than had you sold them for someone else to attempt to sell.

Oh and I really do hope you made a lot of money to make all of your effort worth while.

Thank you...now was that so hard

We have a "basis" of this RipOff...$70.  That's right had they offered you only $120 on your original value of $4000 you would have been satisfied.    Okay...guess what, I will agree that does NOT seem unreasonable..surprised?  However, again just because a company offers you less does not make it a RipOff.  As a business they have a right to offer you anything, just like you have the right to either accept or decline their offer.

I too have electric, a mortgage, and insurance that is of no concern to them, welcome to LIFE

- I never said you didn't have expenses.  But those are NOT a business.  You have those expenses regardless of if you sell these items or not.  They don't live in their store(at least I doubt it), and their expenses are business related.

I will let you know after the auction ends in 7 days how I do.

- How will you let us know?  By telling us with no proof to back it up?   Then what would keep you from saying you made $500 on your items, when in reality only 1 sold for $35?  That is why the Item Numbers are really the only way anyone who reads this report is going to beleive anything you say about that.  Oh, and unless you have doubts as to how you would do, there is NOTHING keeping you from posting them now.

To answer your question, which I have no obligation to do so I would have been ok with 10 % which comes out to $120.00.  Did you want to pay that to me since you are so hard up for the answer?  I find it hard to believe you have no vested interest in this, perhaps you have nothing better to do.  And yes AS I ALREADY STATED, I under stand they have over head.  I too have electric, a mortgage, and insurance that is of no concern to them, welcome to LIFE.

And before you accuse me of "lame excuses" , it is on ebay as we speak.  As I already told you, I will let you know after the auction ends in 7 days how I do.  As far as proof, Once upon A child does not offer you a bid or offer in writing, so get your facts straight before you speak of something you know nothing about.

And since you are so hard up for an answer on my financials, NO I am not wealthy.  I just believe my kids (note more than one) should have nice clothes.  When you have more than ONE child 3 or 4K is not unheard of for clothing.  And since you also MUST know why so many were unused, not worn or what ever term you like, my youngest had brain surgery last fall. His wardrobe that was already purchased was not adequate to fit over his head (it swelled to the size of a large pumpkin).  And no they could not be used later because he wears a plastic helmet to protect his brain, he is now missing about a 1/3 of his skull.  But hey maybe I am lying about that too, would you like proof of that too?

Since you have no interest in the company, get a hobby.

You failed to answer the primary question...

You are claiming a RipOff of this company because they only offered you $49.50 for your items, and you are upset that they are going to make $1150 off of your clothes.  So I ask again in a more direct way.

How much did they need to pay you for your clothes for you to not consider it a "RipOff".

You however addressed questions I never even asked.  I never asked why your kids wear designer clothes.  I never even asked why you would have over $3000 in clothes that were never worn.  I never asked for your financials.   I never asked how often they wear them.  But what I did say that it may not be the best idea to buy over $3000 in clothes that were NEVER worn.  Who knows perhaps you are independently wealthy where you make $500,000/year and $3000 to you is like a Quarter to someone else.  But to most people when they see how much waste you are putting forward you are going to get a lot of eyes rolling.  If you don't want to listen to this suggestion then I could honestly care less.

Oh and NO I am NOT an employee, nor have any vested interest in this company.  In fact I haven't even heard of them until your post.  However, when you post on a PUBLIC web site, the PUBLIC may see this and not always agree with you.

I am not even saying I agree or disagree...just that you are basically accusing them of things that you have shown no proof otherwise.  You made a claim of Price Gouging..without Proof and that is why I am posting here.

Now, of course if all of your items are going up on EBay today.  I somehow doubt you will do this as you will probably come up with a lame excuse.  But who knows perhaps you will surprise me, so I really hope you post the item numbers so everyone can track just how much money you are raking in.  Who knows..perhaps you may even get a few buyers from it.

But let us remember unlike the store you have no additional overhead, you have no workers comp insurance or any other additional insurance you need to sell.  You have no labor costs.  You have no additional utility costs.  All of which a store has.

SInce you must know they are being put on Ebay today and yes, I will let you know what I sell them for (not that I even owe you that)  Obviously you haven't looked at the internet about the amount of complaints (neither did I) this company has.  You must be an employee an owner or just have a vested interest in this company.  I don't care what their financials are, the practice of gouging people selling to them is just plain dishonest.  And no it is none of your business why my kids wear designer clothes, how often and if they wear them or not.  Raise your own kids your way (if you even have any) and stick your nose out of mine.  And just so you know Once Upon a Child didn't inquire about my financials either, so we are even there.  If anyone in the NJ area would like info on where to sell clothing by the pound you can contact me, you will make more that way than selling to these rip offs.  So dear Robert I will be in touch just to prove to you what a rip off they are.

Something seems a bit off here

Umm..So you are selling off over $4,000 and a majority of it unwarn and new.  If you are being truthful let me just give you a suggestion on how to save money on the front end..just don't buy as much.  Because by your own admission 3/4(or $3000) of the stuff you bought was never even used.

You can't justify $1,150.00 worth of expenses or profit to be made on two bags of my clothing.

- Well if you can't justify $1,150 then how much profit can you "justify"?  Would you allow $1000 profit?  Perhaps only $750?  Is $500 profit too much for you?  Of course to get profit you have to take away their expenses.  So have you read their financials to determine their expenses?  Did you include things such as labor, taxes, rent, utilities, insurance?  How about if they don't sell your items at 70% because someone doesn't like "designer" clothes as much as you do?  What if they could only sell that $800 jacket for $80(90% off). Oh and yes that is totally reasonable because most parents, especially the budget minded ones that will shop at a resale shop aren't usually going to be willing to fork out over $100 for a KIDS jacket that may be good for perhaps one season..as in your case it was only worn a few times.

Do your self a favor and sell them through ebay or Facebook pages for selling kids things, or stick to an honest consignment shop.

- So when you sold them through Ebay how much did you get?  Oh you didn't..okay what did an "honest" consignment shop offer you for the same clothes?
