I am reporting this bank, and in fact, many banks for shady check processing practices. It seems to me that banks are changing the rules or at the least making them up as they go along.

Now, I will begin by saying that a recent insufficient funds return was my fault, and mostly due to my own stupidity of doing business with an internet based bank. I was unable to get to the store to buy the appropriate card to deposit the money for the check to clear. With that said, I was responsible for one. On May 23rd I had two checks presented for payment. One was written back on the 10th of May the other written on May 22nd. Again they arrived the same day. The 10th check was for $25 and the 22nd was for $50. I imagine that you can guess they processed the 22nd first, and there was not enough funds for this one (I did actually think I had more time to get money in the bank); because of processing the most recent and more costly check first, the older and less denomination check bounced as well.

It is important to note that when I realized that the $50 check had already been received I did hurry to the store and buy the card and deposit the money, in hopes now that it was Saturday it would be okay. I even called to explain my case and hope that they would not in fact return the checks (this was before any fees had been applied).  Also as a note, anyone desiring to contact this company, good luck it's not easy. I did finally reach someone on Tuesday (following the Holiday) and explained my grievances. The agent tried to explain it away as merchants hanging onto a check or when they come in as the reason for what happened. But, I retorted noting that they came on the same day. She then explained that they were both still in pending status and could do nothing until they fully processed, which at that time she would be happy to complete a courtesy refund. She added to have me recheck the account in a day or two. I waited three and found that they not only did not process the one time courtesy refund, but even though I checked my account until 10pm on May 29th, somehow the check was redeposited on the 29th which so happens to be the 2 hours before my direct deposit cleared. So another fee.

I called the bank again, explained the whole scenario over again, mostly highlighting the issue I had with the order of the checks in that the higher dollar amount was processed first, even though it was the most recently written. This time I hear an altogether different policy, and that is that they take the checks by numerical order if they arrive on the same day, paying no attention to the date they were written! Huh??? Who does that? I always believed that we dated our checks for a purpose, if it is all about the number of the check why is it we date at all??? So, now this agent has no intention of even giving me the courtesy refund and when I question her about the fact that the check redeposited somehow in between 10pm and 12am on the 29th and that I found it shady as well, she only spewed more scripted policy. Finally, I told this agent that I was unsatisfied with her responses and asked to be transferred to a supervisor. She complied, I heard an automated "You will be transferred" and then click, hung up on....nice!

I believe it was US Bank or some other bank that was sued for such practices recently, processing charges to benefit their own fee schedule, and feel this bank should be added to said law suit. Like I mentioned, my biggist mistake was doing business with an online bank, if you are reading this, don't do it! It is impossible and expensive to deposit money, except for direct deposit, and they are impossible to nail down for contact.

I don't believe anyone can help, but everyone should know!

Thanks for reading my rant,
