Like others similarly scammed, I received an email in response to a resume I sent in regards to an employment ad on Craigslist:
Hi XXXX,
My name is Patricia- I'm the staffing manager at Amadeus Consulting. I've reviewed your application, and your qualifications may be a good fit for our administrative staff. Everything looks good, however I will need you to send me your resume in executive-classic format (company requirement for new hire résumés). Please re-send me your resume in the correct format, along with the first date you can begin so we can move forward.
If you are unfamiliar with an executive-classic format, I'd recommend finding a template, or a quick resume builder online (I know OneBuckResume.com or ResumeEdge should support the format).
Please email me if you have any questions.
Kind Regards,
Patricia Duarte
Staffing Coordinator
Amadeus Consulting Group™ Inc. patriciaduarte@amadeuconsulting.com
Not one to be naturally paranoid, I went to OnebuckResume and had them format my resume. I figured it was a dollar, what could it hurt? BUt I was VERY careful to check for any obligitory wording and made sure I was not signing up for any service. Anyway, to make a long story short, I ended up with a charge for $7.80 2 days later from "ResumeService".
Red flag 1: the return email address is not spelled correctly. Red flag 2: the REAL Amadeus Consulting Group is located in Colorado, not the state where I live. I figured these things out after the fact, naturally.
I emailed the return address and blasted them for ripping off unemployed people and demanded a refund. 2 days later I got an email from billing@onebuckresume.com stating that I had cancelled my "resume delivery" subscription?! I replied that I wanted a refund immediately, and that I would be reporting their company to my bank, the BBB, Craigslist, and the police. That was this morning. This evening, I received a "private number" telephone call asking for me by first name, telling me I had shipment, then saying a publishers clearing house package AND CAR (!) waiting in customs to be delivered to me "tomorrow" (from customs? really?) and they needed to verify my address. They would not answer me about how they got my name or number, just rambled confused statements with no real answers. They wouldn't say what company they were from, or give me a name except for "My boss Mr. Phillip".
I feel that this was the resume company (I have no proof of course) as they have my name and number, now have my credit card information, and are now trying to find my address. I feel totally threatened by these people.
It looks like this is a regular routine for these folks. I see they closed up shop after the beginning of the year, but they seem to be back in business. I feel that they have gone beyond scamming into predatory behavior. EVERYONe seekling employment via Craigslist should be made aware of this sick company.
