In November our Cruise Ship stopped in Lahaina, HI and while walking through the town's Front Street, a OroGold Sales clerk approached me, offered me a OroGold sample and lured me into the store for a "quick" demonstration.  I told her I did not have time as I needed to get back on the ship.  She assured me it would only take a couple of minutes and proceeded to apply some eye cream and another product on my hand.  The clerk further informed me that OroGold has a doctor available that could give me a free consult , free skin analysis and perform special procedure to help my skin . That was all going to be included in the $399 for the Eye Care Product.

When this "doctor" arrived ( I found out later that she was just another sales clerk acting the part), the high pressure sales started and all three clerks in the store applied their agressive, deceitful sales tactics and made every attempt to stall me.  I reiterated again that I needed to get back to the ship and when I tried to leave,  they still would not let me go and continued to throw more products at me.  The "doctor" then applied serveral products on my face and assured me that it would only take 20-30 minutes.  When the "doctor" quoted the price I made it clear that this price was more then my annual social security income and there was no way I could or would purchase. I was asked if I had a credit card and that she was "very good in negotiating with Credit Card companies and that she could work out a good deal for me.  I was made to believe that she was just going to calll my credit card company to find out my credit limit and what options there were.

By this time I was pretty stressed thinking I would miss the ship plus the agressive sales tactic from all three clerks left me nerved up and not thinking clearly.  Like a fool I gave her my card.  I figured she was going to find out that my credit limit would not support such a purchase and this was going to be the end of it and that I then would run out of this store.  This doctor did not come back with my credit card for at least 30 minutes or more and I started to panic wondering where she was and what she was doing with my credit card.  In the meantime the other clerk tried some more tactics to engage me in conversation to distract and unnerve me even more.  Between the 3 clerks if fell monopolized and I had the distinct feeling something was wrong.  There was this exchange of looks between the clerks that was almost fightening.  By this time I was in complete panic.

Finally the "doctor" returned with a very long sales slip and advised me not to worry as she was good at what she was doing, that she had done it many times and that she had been able to work out a good deal with my credit card company.   By this time all I could think of was that I needed to get out of there and get back to the ship.  The "doctor" put the sales slip over the arm of my chair and all I could see was the area for the signature.   The total amount of the sale and the No Return/No Refund portion was hanging over the side of the arm of the chair and was completely hidden.   I signed the sales slip under much duress.  Six of the products were given to me at the store and I was told that the rest would ship to my home address.  I made it for the last tender to the ship.

Not until I was on the ship did I have a chance to inspect the sales slip and I was in shock when I saw a total of $15,444.00 charged to my credit card. I had no idea how my Credit Card Company and this "doctor"ever worked out such a deal as my credit limit did not support this purchase.  When I arrived home I checked my credit card account immediately and that is when I learned what this doctor had "worked" out with my Credit Card Company.

In addition, when I arrived home I also had a OroGold box waiting at my steps that had been dropped off by FedEx.  I immediately returned the box to FedEx and refused shipment.  The products were to be returned to the address identified on the box.  I also packed up the 6 items I was given at the store and mailed them via UPS to the Lahaina Store.     FedEx was unable to deliver the box to that location since OroGold had given a fictitious shipping address and phone number and OroGold had not disclosed contents or value of box to FedEx.  FedEx  left several messages at this fictitious phone number asking OroGold to contact them to provide shipping directions; however, FedEx never received a call back and placed the box in their Salt Lake City Overdue Facility pending response from OroGold.  Learning this from FedEx, I left 3 messages at the Store and with the OroGold Customer Service advising them of that fact.  This was also followed up with email messages to both locations.  Neither FedEx or I ever received a response from OroGold and box will remain at the FedEx Facility pending OroGold's response.  FedEx will not allow me to pay for freight, have it shipped to me or give direction to ship it to the OroGold Store in Lahaina as FedEx stands firm that it is OroGold's product and shipping direction must come from OroGold.

In addition, UPS made 2 attempts to delivery the products I returned to the Lahaina Store; however, the first day OroGold refused shipment and on 2nd day UPS was told that it was delivered to incorrect address.  Products were returned to my address.  I started to contact the OroGold Store and Customer Service as soon as I returned home on 12/4/17.  I made 18 calls and left messages at the Store as well as their Customer Service Department.

I advised both verbally and in writting that I returned/refused all products for the following reasons: 1. Product caused  allergic reaction the same day the Store applied the products   2.  questionable ingredients and results 3.  inflated cost of products. (for example I was charged over $1,000 for same item that can be purchased online for $35-$80)  4. unethical, dishonest, underhanded, high pressure and aggressive sales tactics   5. deliberately hiding the NO Return/No Refund Policy when presenting sales receipt   6.  verbally not disclosing the No Refund/No Return Policy    7. Not posting the Policy in the Store in an visible area.  Based on these facts, I requested a full refund.      I was able to reach the OroGold Customer Service Representative middle of December; however I was informed that each store could make their own policy as well as set their prices and Customer Service could and would not intervene. The message would be passed on to the store but it was ultimately up to the store to deceide.  I repeatetly stated that I am allergic to their product and their refused product was sitting at Fed Ex waiting for OroGold direction.  OroGold Store offered me a $3,000 refund that I refused as I wanted my $15,444 back.  At that point I was still under the belief that OroGold had received back all their refused/returned products and had accepted the products.

In reality OroGold has been playing games and their scam tactics have been well thought through when it comes to refused and returned shipments.  Since they are using fictitious addresses, phone numbers and  contact information, Product has no real return to Sender address to go back.  The "doctor" even uses various names as well based on the online scam complaints that took place at the verys same store that I was scammed at.       There are thousands of complaints on their website, under OroGold Cosmetic Review:Gold Metal Scam- Snob Essentials, the Better Bussiness Bureau and other various websites under the "aka" names.  Online reviews and complaints mirror my experience and it is like reading my story over and over again.       Based on a good number of reviews, the pattern appears to be that they especially target people that are in a hurry or have other time constraints and then they apply their underhanded, aggressive, rude and slick sales tactics, deliberately stalling customers to get them nerved up.

This OroGold Scam appears to be on an international level and a continuations of the Dead Sea Scam.  Based on all the negative reviews, I would say if all put together , it propably could warrant a class action suit agains this underhanded company.  If their product works so well, why not honor a money back guarantee??     Interesting enough is that fact that in my case as well as 90% of the reviews it is mentions the same thing in that this OroGold scam is being carried out by young Israelies, most of them here on Visitor Visas.  Just wondering how Homland Security and Immigration feels about that?

Contact your State’s Attorney General

AUTHOR: Christy - (United States)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 24, 2019

This is just an awful company...I traced all their products to Mazal Inc. in Florida. Everything you mentioned in your report, I also found to be true. I got my money back. I flagged the purchase as fraud through my credit card. Then I wrote a letter to the Attorney General. The Attorney General sent a letter to the store and combined with the info (my report, receipts, plus some articles about the scam) to both my credit card company’s fraud department as well as the attorney general.

Keep reiterating your story with the card company and they can do a chargeback to your account. The next step is to report them to the Department of Labor for harboring Israelis on incorrect visas. The report you wrote here is much like the one I shared with my cc company and the attorney general. I’m from California and we do have consumer protection laws that require all merchants to give you your money back, regardless of what they claim.

I’m not sure about your state, but it doesn’t hurt to try! And with the deceptive sales tactics, unclear pricing, and no returns, you deserve your money back. I know how you feel. These people used a bait and switch on you and the prices were unclear. They lied to you. Tell the attorney general! Also, $15,000 may be enough to get a lawyer interested. Usually it’s $30,000. That’s why they are getting away with this. But do not fear! Stay vigilant and keep trying.
