FIRST, Beautiful homes, beautiful mountainside. Here is my dealings with them. I am 61 yrs old. 21 yrs in the military, 3 yrs in police work, soon to retire from the V.A. with 20 years as an R.N. 2 female cousins came in to see TN for 1week- see some sites, see some relatives. I was their host.

I got online to look for a cabin in Gatlinburg for 2 nights. I looked at 2 sites: Outback and Fireside. I booked. Grandpa's Getaway with Fireside. A week later I am getting a call from a resort in Gatlinburg looking for money to hold my rental (Outback).

I ask if I am resetving for rental called grandpa something or another. Lady replies no, I am to be in Koala. She calls several times asking for this or that, wanting the whole amount purchased and letters with a signature for responsibility and credit card # signed and sealed.

I am at work trying to fax, at home trying to email, but having little success. Busy time for me. When we start for house, we know we are going to be late. I call and ask for latest time for key, address to site for GPS, and to know if anyone will be there, or if key is being left for me.

I again ask if I am staying at Granddad's. By now, i am thinking my reservation was given to another and i have been given Koala instead. When we arrive, we open house and begin unloading. A large yellow-colored dog runs up the hill, and a lady comes up after him. He is unleashed and runs into the house.

One member of the party is afraid of dogs, although he seems friendly. He spends a good 5 minutes in the house (we were carrying baggage in and door was opened) and the lady does not identify herself but goes in after and chases dog around house, some parts twice. She cannot get it to go where she directs, cannot get leash on.

After she and dog leave, we look at the rooms in the house. Then go for groceries. We cannot get the house door locked. We cannot find anyone for help, so we leave. We come back, all is good. We unload and cook a pizza.

Someone calls me from Fireside Rentals asking when I will be there; she tells me that I had Grandpa's Getaway reserved for 2 nights. I tell her i must have booked 2 by mistake and guess I will pay for both. We sit down in living room to watch MNF. We are up next morning and off to daylong Gatlinburg visit.

Eat dinner at Dolly Parton's Stampede and home and to bed. Up the next morning and out the door before 10 a.m.  24+ hours after departure, I get a call from this lady (same person other guy is complaining about, also turns out to be the lady with the unleashed dog) telling me I damaged her house.

I burnt something in the kitchen and something else. Im seething. I know me. I know how little we interacted with this house. When I raise my voice (oh yea, I'm mad), she calls me stupid. She tells me it is a new house and I will pay for damages.

I hang up on her. About 2 hours later, she emails me 2 photos. And proceeds to tell me I F...d up her house and will pay. I text her back and tell her we did not even use the chairs or table in the dining area at all. This is where i mention the dog and she identifies herself as the lady and advises me that she had the dog under control and it could not have been the dog or her fault.

The burn she is talking about is a visible stain on a lamp's table. I tell her that i put a coaster there and a mountain dew on the coaster and tell her it does not resemble a burn and no one smoked in the house, and the stain would probably remove with a little bleach (you know I figure the $100.00 cleaning fee might be good for something other than stripping the beds).

We did not leave a garbage bag of trash, we loaded the dishwasher with plates for pizza and bagel meals), 6 glasses, and same # cups. I think I am now told I am a nut and it is a burn. I ask for a place to contact to complain, most web pages for businesses have such a site.

I get another smart-alecky reply. After saying I WILL pay anyway and leave it up to God. I tell the lady not to contact me on my phone anymore, her lawyer can contact me at this point. You guessed it: she replied that she can contact me. This was a beautiful place. We each had a large bed.

We were so worn out from the drive to East TN visiting gravesites and some living kin that we went to bed early. Tue. Night I played pool, hot-tubbed and to bed after walking around Gatlunburg all day. The owners need to realize quickly that having someone ridicule and call your paying guests names (and especially in misspelled words and poor grammar)), not to mention 2nd grade arguing and eff bombs thrown will not help them keep customers.

My cousins caught the plane this a.m. they don't and won't know about this illiterate that makes my home state look so backward. But I would try to forewarn others about this site. First, use the phone to call places, rather than these websites, ask for pictures, literature to be mailed.

Book on the phone. I was in a hurry due to short notice. Secondly, walk through WITH the owner/manager before and after your stay. This petson's walk through after my stay, without me, is just a sham, fueled by ...ignorance, callousness, blatant deception?

No one should have to pay for something they did not damage. No matter how much derogatory and childish names a person might use; theft is theft! A beautiful stay in a beautiful house on a beautiful mountain ruined by a very unpretty attitude.
