Don't be fooled by www.overstocksilver.com like I was! They supposedly sell imitation Tiffany, sterling silver jewelry. I ordered a ring from their website because it looked like a decent copy of a $1200 Tiffany ring that I really, really, wanted for $34.00. I was charged $39.95 immediately on my credit card, $34.00 for the ring and $5.95 for 2-5 day UPS ground shipping.

As the days passed and my ring wasn't in the mail I began to get suspicious. I emailed overstocksilver.com 2-3 times regarding my order and go no reply. Then I checked my order status on their website. All fields regarding shipping were blank. So I called the customer service number, and that's when I realized I'd been had. After about 2 rings an answering machine (yes, seriously, an answering machine) picked up with a message about how busy they were filling orders, and to leave a message, blah, blah, blah... At this point I realized that this was a BS business.

I didn't give up hope, and still waited for my order each day in the mail, but it never came. Funny thing is that overstocksilver.com brags all over their website about their "award winning customer service". That must mean that they serve themselves to the customers money without delivering a product.

I should also point out that overstocksilver.com is NOT affiliated with overstock.com. When I was initially ordering the ring, I thought they were. I learned my lesson, research a company before buying. They also have an F rating from the BBB.

Overstock Silver IS A Rip Off

AUTHOR: Anonymous - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, December 18, 2009

I just recently purchased an item from overstocksilver.com and after a month of emailing and calling I finally called my credit card company to dispute this charge. I am going to email Yahoo Stores as well because this site is a complete rip off.

DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS ONLINE STORE! I am going to have to have my credit card canceled and reissued because they have the number and who knows what they are going to do with it.

My time line:
I ordered an item and did not hear anything for 2 weeks. When I checked the shipping status it was blank so I called and talked to "John". This was before I had researched overstocksilver.com online. I was told it was back ordered and that the item would be overnighted to me once it became available. I was promised within one week.

One week later I sent an email because they still had not shipped my item and I had read rip-off report that they are a fraud. I never heard back

3 days later I called and talked to "John" again who didn't remember or have noted that they were going to overnight my item. He said they were in stock and that it would be shipped out and I would be notified within 24 hours. When I asked him about the shipment issues that are all over the internet he told me the company had been purchased 2 months ago and they were working out old customer service issues. BULL!

I waited 24 hours, i don't know why, I knew they were full of it.

24 hours later, no shipment, no email, nothing. I called my credit card, disputed the charge.

The BBB report

AUTHOR: Lana - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 09, 2009

The BBB report on this company states the have a rating of a F.
It reports that they have 44 complaints in 36 months.
Of those complaints they or he, did not respond to 35 of them.
Another number listed on the BBB for this guy is: 1-800-430-0969.
I am sure his customer service hours, are when he decides to get out of bed.

#3 Consumer Suggestion

From a fraud analyst's perspective

AUTHOR: Jessica - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, June 08, 2009

I am a fraud analyst and I specialize in detecting fraudulent businesses. The rebuttal by the CEO of overstock silver raises many red flags for me:

1. If this was a legitimate company, why didn't they make an effort to resolve the issue with this customer? Normally, legitimate companies want customers to be satisfied and would make attempts at resolving the issue at hand instead of assuming the customer is lying and even threatening legal action against the customer.
2. The CEO normally doesn't take time to respond to complaints online-he/she normally delegates those responsibilities to employees.
3. Normally, when a legitimate company asks to be contacted directly (requested a few times here), the company lists the contact number. The hours were listed, but no number was listed.
4. A brief internet search only turns up sites which vaguely confirm the site's existence but no 3rd party sites were found to confirm the legitimacy of the company. Normally an e-commerce merchant in existence for 3 years would be able to be confirmed through other sites.
5. A brief internet search brings up additional rebuttals by the company's CEO to other complaints, which means more negative information than positive was found on this company.

To avoid a scam like this in the future:
1. It is suggested that, before purchasing from an unknown business, search the internet for information on that business. Disregard any vague information such as phone number verification etc as this can be purchased by the company and does not confirm a company's legitimacy-only that it has paid for a phone number and listing. Only do business with a company whose identity you can verify and confirm through a 3rd party.
2. Use a major credit card to make any e-commerce purchase. Never give out your checking account number to an unknown website. By using a major credit card, you are protected against fraudulent charges. Further, if a merchant has excessive fraud reported, the major credit card companies will revoke their processing privileges and the merchant will no longer be allowed to accept credit cards.
