So there is a contemporary youth orchestra here in Cleveland, Ohio. They decided to try and get Pat Benatar and her husband to do some "charitable work" and booked them to play with these youngsters here in Cleveland in their orchestra. Well, poor Pat and her husband will ONLY fly first class, will only agree to do it IF these kids pay for FIRST CLASS ACCOMODATIONS FOR HER ENTIRE FAMILY. We were asked at work to donate frequent flyer miles to fly them here from overseas.

Well, Pat's husband is from Parma, Ohio. Basically, this would be a free trip home for Pat, her husband, and their family (who are rich) to fly home to see their family.... and perform with the orchestra as a "bone thrown to a dog" basically. It's disgusting! I hope these kids decide it is not worth it. How freaking bizarre is that? Pat, I will never again listen to your music.

MOVE ON?

AUTHOR: Anonymous - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, June 01, 2009

Most of Neil's Family is now in Florida. Pat and Neil's younger daughter travel with them most of the time anyway. If you don't want to accommodate them and you feel it is that unreasonable, get someone else.

I am interested to see what anyone else would ask for.

respond to something I posted 14 months ago, and act as though it happened yesterday? Truly pathetic. I hope you don't attempt to litigate for your clients this way?

BTW...I'm sure you noticed that nobody has yet to be able to properly counter anything I write. There's a reason for that. It's called truth. Wait, you claim to be an attorney. You wouldn't know about that.

AUTHOR: Filmjoyce - (U.S.A.)

Pat and hubby have 2 children. They are a very close family. What are you talking about when you say "entire family"? Two kids? Is she suppose to leave them at home? She's not going w/out her kids. Also she is doing the charity for free. There is nothing wrong w/first class tickets. Maybe she wants more privacy for she and her family. I've been a fan of Pat since she first hit the scene over 20 years ago and she and her husband have never done anything shadey or controversal. They are good people and you are trashing them on here.

Poor use of semantics...

AUTHOR: Rhonda - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, November 11, 2006

Robert, it's very interesting to me how you use semantics to compensate for lack of viable argument. I'm referring to this statement, "Let's try not comparing people with ZERO money, to people who have plenty. It's like comparing New York City skyscrapers, to the mud huts of the Congo.".

I can't even figure out what you were really trying to say, it's just nonsense. Especially taken in context with the comments you made a few days ago in this very thread. Earlier in the thread you stated, "Poor people are poor because they make poor choices in life. Rich people are rich because they make good choices. I'll take someone who makes good choices over someone who doesn't, any day!". Gandhi may not have been perfect and both Gandhi and Mother Teresa choose to be poor but they both did an incredible amount of good in this world. They chose to be poor because it enabled them to do their life's work; caring for and feeding the dregs of society"(your label, not mine) as if they were the Saint's own relatives.

I believe that both Gandhi and Mother Teresa were blessed to know and live with those they so lovingly cared for. I believe this because of the comments they made in interviews and writings. Until I read this thread I honestly didn't believe reasonably intelligent people could be so openly bigoted and prejudiced.

Reading your posts is one of the saddest things, you're missing so much if you truly run your life with this attitude. I always thought that people who were accused of being snobs were just misunderstood. Call me nave but I have never once chosen a friend based on their bank account, career, car, address, style of dress or hygiene. YES, my friends bathe as a rule but I have been close to many people who for various reasons didn't fit in to your group of "classy" people.

My life has been greatly enriched by knowing and loving people who held no pretense about who they are or who I am. You're encumbered by trappings that ultimately mean squat. I've been married 28 years this year and we've been very, very poor AND we've been extremely comfortable. Neither circumstance has changed our outlook on life or the people we hold dear.

If we had been predisposed to your world view our marriage would never have lasted and our children would have grown up in a broken home AND I would not have welcomed into my life and my home many of the people I've been honored to call friend. Over the long haul, sitting in a status location isn't all that important and if you think it is then I feel sorry for what you are missing.

In regards to your comment about hypocrisy; you put me in the position of either I. Telling you(and everyone else reading this) how I choose to show benevolence to those less fortunate. II. Lying to you and telling you that I would not invite homeless people into my home or III. Ignoring your comment. I choose door number III..

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, November 10, 2006

You go ahead and equate the "dregs", as you put it, with GOOD, and have fun hanging out with them.

This is the test. Invite them(the "dregs") to live with you. Anyone you associate with, should be welcome to stay in your house.

If you are unwilling to do that, then you are a HYPOCRITE.

Mother Theresa, and Ghandi were both fine people, doing good work. Mother Theresa took a vow of poverty, and therefore, HAD to travel the CHEAPest way possible. Ghandi also lived in abject poverty. He was also very prejudiced towards Muslims, and an Anti-Semite. So much for his fellow man. Let's try not comparing people with ZERO money, to people who have plenty. It's like comparing New York City skyscrapers, to the mud huts of the Congo.

Nice try Rhonda. Almost as good as Dan, claiming to know ANYTHING about me.

Good luck next time.

I'm still trying to figure out how Pat ripped the OP off. I know that there can be promises in the dark and that sometimes our best shots fall short, but c'mon, we are young. Heart ache to heart ache, we stand. No promises, no demands.

To have such fire and ice about such a great performer makes for interesting shadows of the night even when we belong to the light.

Don't trust your own press...

AUTHOR: Rhonda - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, November 09, 2006

It seems to me that Roberts spouts an awful lot of hyperbole for someone who is obviously not a well seasoned air traveler. I wonder which Mother Teresa or Gandhi would have chosen if they had chosen to fly? They hung out with the dregs of society, didn't they? I'm certainly honored to be linked with them if that's what has happened here. My rule of thumb is to take coach if the flight is less than 3 hours and business or first if it's longer. I've spent more hours than I care to count on airplanes and frankly, the joy in traveling isn't about where you sit but who you sit with. It's been my experience that you find all kinds in both sections of the airplane. What I'm getting from Robert is that he's just rec'd a raise that garners him 20 or so an hour and now he thinks he has a right to denigrate the rest of society. How sad. I've been in the business world a very long time and it's not true that the very rich always charter or own planes. The truly rich are that way because they and typically their forebears have practiced the art of conscious spending and saving. I've noticed that the best executives typically answer their own phones and eat in diners when they travel and the folks who've had money long enough to be comfortable with it have no need to flaunt it. Simply by bragging about his travel habits and denigrating the other 75% of the people in the air Robert has shown us that A. He hasn't traveled enough by air to have an intelligent opinion. B. He doesn't have any money and likely won't because he wastes his. C. He's going to hit the ground really hard and probably soon. Nobody can have their nose that high in the air without falling on their face eventually. Sorry Robert, by writing and believing your own press you have proven that you are an unsophisticated, insecure and probably lonely braggart. Being a braggart makes you a dullard and a dolt as well. I hope as you move forward in life you will mature a great deal. If you don't the world is going to beat you up and leave you for dead. Another thing to consider Robert, is that everything you do and say eventually comes back to bite you. I have no doubt that you will live to regret your thoughtless and cruel comments regarding the thousands of people who fly coach. You might want to rethink your attitude about poverty too because you are definitely going to experience some type of poverty in your life - perhaps money, perhaps not. You will come to a point where you desperately need something that's not available to you. When that happens I do hope you are treated with the compassion you, in your ignorance, brutally refuse to show others.

Or maybe you had your team of executives pull that one out when they were all flying first class for your successful multi-million dollar business.

Since you are unable to atleast insult me properly i will go, by the way the only comments you'll see from me on this site or any are the 4 ive written to you bobbi. but one final note; Marines are blue collar, selfless heroes who risk it all for this country and her people and expect little or nothing in return.

You, are a self proclaimed white collar aristocrat who spends all of his time insulting people to make himself feel better about his own bottom feeder lifestyle. Hence regardless if you ever indeed wore a uniform, you have NEVER been and will NEVER be a marine, just an empty shell that calls himself a man.

If im ever in jacksonville I'll drop by jiffy lube and you can flush out my radiator. I might tip you bob. Then we can go have a few drinks at the bar and talk, i'm sure it would be an interesting conversation.

POSTED: Saturday, October 07, 2006

"hey bob its dan... chattin' with ya."

I have no idea what you are blathering on about. My official MOS was 3533. What I ACTUALLY did in the Marines is classified, and YOU will never be on the "Need to know" list. Even the VA does not have access to my SRB. In fact, all anyone could come up with was my name, and dates of service. I have an Official Certificate of Service, since nobody could find my records. That happens when you are "one of THOSE guys", as the man at the Archives said. How's that grab ya Danny Boy?

As for a secondary, that's easy. Every Marine has a secondary MOS of 0311... rifeleman.

As for your slanderous insinuations about me doing anything untoward with children, watch your self. It would be a shame if you stated something in this, or any other site, that could come back to haunt you. It doesn't take much to have a Judge order a website to hand over the ISP of the offending party. How much money do you have to lose? Probably not much.

I know you were probably a boat fueler or aviation supply, but for fun you can make up an M.O.S. I served with 3-1 in iraq in 2004-05, and not a single one of those bush grunts would spend a twentieth of the time you do on a computer searching for people to cut down. Marines are good people, and marines have lives. you, bob, dont. I've seen all of the responses and instigation you've put on this site and countless others. I know what you are bob, and you do too. sadly you have to look at it in the mirror every morning you wake up under mom and dads roof, just before you put on your jiffy-lube uniform and head of to make the big bucks. Let's see...1)Churches are CHEAP, and don't pay squat for speakers. That's why you fly CHEAP. 2)No they don't. The truly rich have their own planes. Next down on the scale fly 1st Class, or Business. They work when they travel. That's why they are rich. Rock bands go by bus. They all have motor coaches. They live in them. Foghat? Too funny. 3)The reason they upgraded was to get away from the cattle.

"Poor Robert pays a fortune to avoid the "dregs" of society and ends up sitting with them anyways!"

No, I don't. They sit behind me in another section.

"Robert, the rich don't get that way by spending money unecessarily. I have flown First Class many times, usually by upgrade. Yes, it is more comfortable."

No kidding? They also did not get rich so they can sit next to someone who doesn't know the wonders of deodorant, or in front of the kid who likes screaming and kicking.

"I would rather sit in coach because that is where people are humble. That is where people are friendly."

And here is where you show your hand. The poor are wonderful, while the better off are evil. Sure.

"Yes, you once in a great while get someone who hasn't bathed or is a blabbermouth, or whatever. But I've had those things happen in First Class, too."

No you haven't...unless the offending party was sitting in your seat.

First Class isn't always "first class"

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, August 14, 2006

First, let me start by stating that Ms. Benatar has the right to demand anything she would like for her travel arrangements. If she can get it, good for her!

I am a professional public speaker. I have NEVER asked for First Class for THREE reasons. 1) I don't want to overburden the organizations hiring me (usually churches), 2) Most of the rich actually fly coach (I am not rich, but I have sat with an entire NHL team, the rock band Foghat, the rock band Poison, and many others in Coach), and 3) More than half of the folks in First Class were Coach passengers uprgaded for one reason or another.

Poor Robert pays a fortune to avoid the "dregs" of society and ends up sitting with them anyways!

Robert, the rich don't get that way by spending money unecessarily. I have flown First Class many times, usually by upgrade. Yes, it is more comfortable. Yes, they give you free booze (but if you are rich, who cares, if you must drink it's only $5).

I would rather sit in coach because that is where people are humble. That is where people are friendly. Yes, you once in a great while get someone who hasn't bathed or is a blabbermouth, or whatever. But I've had those things happen in First Class, too.

Get over it Robert.

Curious as to Who actually was at the Concert?

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, July 23, 2006

I have read everything that was posted on this thread.

But, I have not seen who had actually did the Celebrity thing?

This nonsense about who flys 1st class is just nonsense. I have flown alot as well. I have flown 1st class several times (89 times), usually in a group. Family or friends type of group. But I have always prefered coach because the people 1st class section are incredibly boring to talk to.

The total amount of flights I have flown on are regaurdless of sections is 326 flights. Alot of those while I was in the Air Force traveling Europe.

I have met celebrities in coach more often then in 1st class, mainly due to the fact that they wish to blend in, not stand out so as to draw attention to themselves.

To get back to the original post, I don't see any reason why any Celebrity should make such demands. And, then to change the agreement to suit thier needs (or wants is the better word) is just taking advantage of the situation.

I truely do hope that Pat & her family or atleast people that know her well enough to bring this to her attention, have seen this thread. I hope that she sees what a sham the discussion has become. And, in the decentcy (sorry for the mispelling to those who are anal enough to notice it) of her heart has appologized for that situation to get out of hand.

I do not blame her for any of the nonsense that has been posted on here. But, I hope that she might have atleast read this entire thread.

How Much was Made

AUTHOR: Sam - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, June 05, 2006

So was the money raised more than the cost of first class airfare? Pat's husband is her guitar player so he is in her band and performed on stage and her "whole family" now consists of an 8 year old daughter. So basically you had to pay for one extra ticket for her kid. Pat lives in Hawaii now and travel is difficult and far. Any parent should be able to relate to the fact that she probably didn't want to leave her child home alone. Again, I am sure the charity made more money then if she hadn't performed and I doubt the airfare bankrupted anyone. I know some people who acutally came from far away to see that show.

Obviously this charity is totally inexperienced in dealing with celebrity talent. Pat is one of the more flexible ones, if you do this again with someone else you better be prepared cause it will most definately be worse.

Family

AUTHOR: Mary - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, June 04, 2006

People, Pat's "family" includes her (performing), her husband (performing), her 12-year-old daughter and her nanny. As a mother she's not about to leave her daughter behind, and no "charity" should expect her to. She's had a long standing policy to take her kids on tour and to other performances with her instead of leaving them behind to be raised by friends or relatives.

As to the argument as to why the entire family should travel first class... Would you expect to have your young daughter NOT sit with her mom and dad just so an entity hiring you could save a few bucks?

It seems to me that the real problem Kristina is having is that her company expected their employees to donate FF miles. Seems to me her company should have just shut their trap and ponied up the bucks themselves.

That was wonderful Chip. How's Robbie, Ernie, and Uncle Charlie doing these days?

Since I doubt you've ever seen me at all, nothing in your post made sense. I love you WalMart people. You keep thinking you are the salt of the earth, but you're not. The reason there is a curtain between where I sit, and you do, is to keep out the riff-raff.

You're easy to spot in the terminal, and so am I. I dress like a gentleman when I fly. You dress like you're shopping at a thrift shop. As I said previously, watch Airline on A&E. THOSE are your coach fares they show. You pay next to nothing to fly, and expect to be treated like royalty.

I always love watching you guys shlep everything you own on board instead of checking it through baggage. You cram 100 pounds of clothes and junk into an overhead compartment meant to hold less than 50, and the rest gets jammed under your seat, or someone elses, so any resemblence to "legroom" has been eliminated for the guy behind you. Me, I check everything through, and sit in a nice big seat with plenty of room in front of me so I can stretch out and relax.

You guys run the stewardesses ragged and demand constant attention from them. We treat them with respect and get top notch service in return. You make demands, and we tip generously, even though it's not "allowed". There IS a difference between you, and us.

I guess you expect the same treatment at the Motel6 also. I stay at the nice Hotels. You get what you pay for.

I'm surprised you've got time to troll this board, what with all your hob-nobbing with the rich and powerful, all your investments to manage, and your first-class jaunts to destinations unknown.

Here on planet Earth, I'v probably seen you in first or business class. To those of us who travel frequently that way for work, we've seen you pinky-wearing, loud and drunk idiots who do it up big a couple times a year.

Those of us with real class, and who deserve to be in first class, are discreet, and keep to ourselves, because we have nothing to prove. And if I had to sit next to someone like you (depending on the equipment), I'd gladly trade my first in for coach.

Do you remember when people dressed appropriately when flying? You know, men wore suits, and woman wore dresses or long skirts. You know, like they STILL wear(as a rule) when flying Business or 1st Class.

Everyone acted like adults, and children behaved themselves. Those were the days.

I'm glad I am not the only one who understands the difference between the good seats, and the cheap seats.

You did forget one big difference though between coach and the better section(s). We get the better looking stewardesses.

Unfortunately the trailer trash has taken to the air

AUTHOR: R - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, May 07, 2006

I fly over 100K a year, most of it between PDX, PHX and EWR. The number of morons who fly is now epidemic. The airline personnel have basically given up on the battle against the cretins. They're too far outnumbered. Here's a profile on the coach passengers:

-Typically overweight, wearing cheap clothes and Wal-Mart luggage.

-Rude and demanding, barging in front of the first class passengers to sit their fat asses down first.

-After they've barged their way on, placing their carry-on luggage at the front of the plane so they don't to take it to the back of the plane and thusly, the people at the front have to do the opposite, which of course creates commotion at landing.

Recently, I was in line for the first class automated check-in. Some coach dreg cut the line in front of everyone. She was typical coach, an overweight zit-face with a belly shirt displaying her flabby handles. The person in front of me very politely pointed out that this was a first class line and other people were actually in line. The flabbos response was a tirade of profanity. Her worthless weasel father stood by like a church mouse. I felt like smacking him.

I can assure you, I see these episodes every single week. The airline employees have just freakin had it.

And another thing Leslie

Here's what you get since you've never flown first class:

-Wider, leather seats
-Free alcohol
-Pre-boarding (when the dregs don't cut you off)
-Free entertainment
-Your own first class bathroom, of course, the coach passengers ignore the fact that it's for first class use only
-A reasonably decent meal
-First off the plane

And most important, segragation from people who don't practice proper hygiene.

Oh, and here's another one of my favorites: A parent with a small child will pre-board with first class and the attendant will ask, "Sir, why are you bringing a baby's seat, that child is a lap child". Response: "Oh, I'm just going to put him in an empty seat" (one that he didn't pay for of course)

Then the attendant will tell the parent that the flight is full. The parent will then get belligerent. I guess they wanted the child to have his own seat but thought it should be free. Typical coach mentality.

I Resent Your Remarks

AUTHOR: Leslie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, May 06, 2006

I know its been awhile since this issue was reported, but after reading these ridiculous comments, I couldn't help but make a comment of my own.

When I was taking my "weekly bath" and wondering which "rags" to wear to the welfare office, I started thinking about everything Robert has said on this thread. I myself am only 24 years old, and have flown many more times than Robert's mealy 6, and guess what! Each time was in coach!!! And I have NEVER had the pleasure of meeting these so called "dregs of society". My family is by no means rich, but they are not necessarily poor. We simply choose not to waste our hard earned money so we can sit in seats a few inches wider. I have met many wonderful people on flights in coach, and you, Robert, are the perfect example of the type of assholes I would have met if only I'd spent the extra money. It is people like you who are the true dregs of society and cause all the intolerance and ignorance the world has to offer. I have seen many more "rich" people and celebrities dressing like bums than the actual bums living on the streets. Pat Benetar did have every right to ask for travel accommodations that meet her standards, but the "rich" and celebrity should never be allowed to take advantage of the people they are supposedly helping. So yes, Robert, I do agree that you will be judged by the company you keep! I for one would much rather spend time with someone who is less fortunate, but still willing to give the shirt off their back to someone even less fortunate than they are. So tonight, when you lay down to sleep (probably very alone), remember, you have been weighed in the balance, and found (extremely) wanting!

Not all performers need perks for doing charity work.

POSTED: Wednesday, December 21, 2005

I have done hundreds of benefit concerts and fund raising concerts for everyone from fire fighters to raise funds for life saving equiptment to the Boy Scouts of America for educational trips and any time I had to fly I choose to fly coach, why? because it keeps me from getting a big head and keeps me in touch with those who put me where I am today.

I also do not worry about folks asking for autographs on the flight after all how many people can fit into a single plane?
So what if the first half hour is spent signing tee shirts, kids stuffed animals, even air sickness bags or what ever they wish signed, I play for the rich, the poor and anyone else who will enjoy what I do.

Can I pay for first class...hell yes but why would I when we can take the difference and give it to an educational institute or buy books for a school library?

I'm doing pretty good for a kid who had to leave school in the 10th grade to help out at home, I did go back later and finish my education but not until after my family was set.

I have had the pleasure of traveling to other wonderful countries around the globe and given the choice of staying in a four star Hotel or a locals home hosted by his humble family I will always opt to be with the folks who know me for the music I write and not for the digits on my Gold cards.

I was raised to give back when you can and I do, in the form of helping kids realize their dreams, I grew up dirt poor but now I have what I need for myself and my family AND have some to help others, so whats wrong with that.

The problem with "Stars" today is that they believe what others write about them, when the world calls them a star they expect to be treated like one, a true star helps everyone they meet feel like a star themselves.

I'm releasing my 8th Cd this year and the Title is "The Voice of the Warrior" it is full of songs about everyday Hereos like the ones that I have met over the years flying coach, they are the working class who break their backs putting food on the table, they are our soldiers putting their lives on the line so that we can sit at home on our computers answering these threads, they are the single Moms doing their best to feed their children, hard working folks who know how to balance money and love.

The time we have here is too short to be giving out negative feelings towards others.

I was tipped off to this discussion by a friend who came here to report a wrong that was done to her but what she found was a very sad commentary between human beings.
This is all I have to say.

HERE IS THE LINK TO THE ORCHESTRA'S WEBSITE AND PAT AND NEIL PERFORMING, THEY PERFORMED IN MAY!!!

This just proves that this world is just full of a bunch of people who should have done their homework and at least looked at the orchestra ahead of time since they performed FIVE months ago. Kristina never did update this thread and perhaps she should have so the issue could have been closed!

Tsk tsk tsk Class passengers?

POSTED: Wednesday, October 19, 2005

You always give such a small part of the whole story Benny. YOU brought up the Just Brakes thread. At no time have I EVER defended their practices. Show me where I have. You have yet to answer that one simple "yes/no" question I asked you repeatedly. You want mechanics to work for less money, if they can do the repair faster than the labor guide. You want to say "yes", but you know it will prove my point, and make you look more foolish. All it takes to find out pricing is about 15 minutes on a telephone and about 3 different phone numbers.

This thread was about some charity in Ohio that wanted a celebrity(or anyone for that matter) to fly half way across the country to perform for FREE, while riding in the cattle car. Nobody in their right mind would think that was going to happen. Her family was not the issue. The cost of the First Class tickets was the ONLY issue. Again, I said the charity should have covered Pat Benatar's ticket, while letting her family fend for themselves. This is fair, and would have solved the issue right then.

I cannot even imagine being asked to travel 1500 miles with no comfort, and then give my services for FREE on top of it all. I have been requested to go long distances to repair cars for people in other states. Some of us are just that good. Like Dizzy Dean used to say:"it ain't braggin' if you can do it". In NC, I had a customer who worked for ABC News. She was in Manhattan. YOU figure it out. Not once was I asked to take the cheapest route. I was asked to get there and fix the problems and bill them. First Class all the way, baby! She didn't expect me to go cheap. She expected me to be able to go to work immediately upon arrival, and fix her cars.

I watched Airline on TV this morning. Funny show. One clueless couple had their brats running and screaming while the well dressed couple near them offered some sage advice...smack them! The couple with the kids was coach, the other was not. Guess which couple looked like they had double digit IQ's? Which one had triple digits? Then there was the scene where the overbooked flight has to kick people off. The people who paid NOTHING to fly, had tantrums while the ones who did pay just whined. Notice the airlines never try to bump the First Class passengers? Nope, they try to deal with the dregs in coach untill they just have to "volunteer" someone. I have yet to see an episode where the people flying coach are well dressed, well behaved, completely sober, kids quiet(that 21 hour flight to Japan was a hoot)(one of only two coach flights for me...there and back)(switched to Business Class on another airline in LAX, and never flew coach again), but the Business Class and First Class passengers always measure up. I saw one episode that had a guy who hadn't bathed in at least a week. Everyone was complaining about the smell. You sit next to that for any reason other than forced imprisonment, and I'll call you an idiot too.

Nope. Sorry Ben. This has to do with CHEAP people thinking everyone wants to live like they do. Some of us do not.

Thank you for the civil reply Robert. You are obviously an intelligent man and when you take the venom out of your musings you come across as a half decent person. As is my right I still disagree with your philosophy on life. I see more untidily dressed people travelling first class than I do in "coach". I guess the rationale behind that is the wealthy feel that can dress down and get away with it whilst the not so well off generally do their best to "dress up" and look their best for what may be the trip of their lifetime. Either way it really doesn't matter. People are people and we are all unique - every one of us. That is what makes the world a special place to be.
You are right I digressed from the original thread. I don't think anybody that has responded minded Pat Benatar being flown first class - simply that she requested her family be transported also. That is mean. She should pull herself of the 'fund raising' available list if she wants to bleed these tiny fundraising groups. That is the long and the short of it.
Thank you once again for your civility Robert, I now respect your point of view and I hope you respect mine - even though we differ so radically.

Take it back the Just Brakes thread idiot

AUTHOR: Ben - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, October 19, 2005

You stopped responding on the Just Brakes thread Robert. So take it back there if you still want to defend their practice. Dont do it here. I was just pointing out to people on this thread that your a troll who gets his jolly out of bashing consumers under the ruse that only consumers are to blame for falling for a rip-off.

So are you ever going to answer for Just Brakes ad? Or are you still going to dodge it as if they did no wrong and just blame consumers every time they get taken? You know maybe people should be more informed, but that doesnt absolve a store/shop/etc of misleading people. When you attack the consumer for not being informed your just justifying a business being bad.

And you expect us to think your "helping"??

So take it back to the Just Brakes thread. Stop defending these crooked practices, and just shut up.

Sorry folks for hijaking this thread for a few posts but Robert here seems to show up on my radar all to often. And I always have to jump on an idiot that consistantly defends crooked businesses by saying "Well you should have known better", totally forgetting that this site is here so we as consumers......WILL KNOW BETTER.

Oh, and I really like your line Robert of "You dont expect us to make money". I never said that. I have no problem with a business making money. What I have a problem with is them doing it by dubious means. Lots of people make money Robert, they just dont all mislead and rip-off to do it.

Have a problem being honest there ROBBIE?

You're almost correct , Wally

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

First, at no time did I ever say I "rub shoulders" or cozy up to the "rich". I said I don't hang out with the poor. There is a difference. I also said I would rather hang out with the rich than the poor, anyday.

Second, this thread was about a charity wanting Pat Benatar to perform for FREE. She agreed to do it, provided the charity provide PROPER transportation for her family and herself. I have even stated the charity should have covered the First Class ticket for Pat, while leaving her family to fend for themselves. This is fair.

The issue got blown out of line by a bunch of people who think she should fly in the steerage section of the plane, as opposed to first class. You see, it's a CLASS issue. This country is engaged in, as Ted Kennedy himself puts it, Class Warfare. God forbid someone be wealthy, or try to have a better life than someone else. I don't, and never will again, fly in steerage. This doesn't make me better than anyone else, per se. It does make me more comfortable, and shows I have made a better transportation choice. Coach fliers are all worn out when they arrive after a long flight. I am not.

I'll put it this way...if you can afford it, would you rather have a Lincoln Towncar, or a Kia Sephia? Which one? They both get you from one place to another. To me, this is a no-brainer. Anyone with a lick of sense will choose the Lincoln. Why? Because it is much nicer and more comfortable.

People used to dress up to go out. Got dressed up to go to a restaurant or theater or travel. Not anymore. Now, you see the dregs wander around. They have a show on A&E called Airline. It shows exactly what I am talking about. None of the "stars" on the episodes are first class fliers. Every single one of them is flying coach(steerage). Look at how they dress and behave. Look in the backgraound of the shots and you'll see the business class and first class passengers. They're the ones acting like civilized humans and wearing nice clothes. They also aren't the ones who make good video...drunk, unbathed, screaming, cussing, being stupid. This is because they do what made them successful, every day of their lives, in everything they do.

To ask someone to perform for free is one thing. If the person agrees under certain conditions, and you still want them, fine too. To think you should be able to get someone to perform for free AND take the red-eye special to get there is asinine.

I don't want to hijack the thread and I wasn't going to make any further comments to Robert but Ben has enlightened us all as to Robert's station in life. First may I say that being a mechanic is a noble occupation although I suspect Robert would introduce himself as a motor engineer rather than a grease monkey. Rubbing shoulders with the rich won't make you any money Robert in fact the reverse generally applies. I have had more bad debt from the rich (numerically not $ value) than I have had from the not so well off in my lengthy period in business.
I hope you make the fortune you are seeking but I suspect with your attitude to life you don't have much chance of that happening unless you win the lottery.
One last thing to both Ben and Robert - this thread originated because some decent people were trying to raise money for some talented kids so can we leave the unsavoury comments about each other out of it. Civility costs nothing.
Hopefully after all of this there was a successful fundraiser held and the rich rubbed shoulders with the not so rich in order to help the kids.
Good luck to all

If one place advertises a make-believe price of $100 for a four-wheel brake job, and EVERYONE else says it will cost double that, guess what you f**ktard?...The low price is a fraud! I have answered that question for you at least a dozen times now. Are you really that daft, that you cannot grasp what is written in English?

The same "Ben" who trolls these threads and bashes anyone who sees things differently from you, and attacks people based on their religions?

The "Ben" who sells medical lab equipment?

The "Ben" who thinks nobody should use "common sense" and be responsible in any way for their own stupidity?

The "Ben" who thinks nobody should do any research on their own at all for anything and believes that all advertising is 100% accurate?

The "Ben" who thinks someone can get a brake job for $40, while admitting he pays three times that amount to get his done, thus proving a $40 brake job is an obvious scam?

The "Ben" who doesn't understand how anyone can possible call around to check pricing to see if something is priced fairly or too high/low?

The "Ben" who believes a mechanic should earn LESS as he gets more proficient at their job, and that an "honest" will actually give the labor away and not mark up the parts, therefore making nothing at all on the repair?

The "Ben" who refuses to answer simple "yes or no" questions with simple "yes or no" answers, because it will show he is an ignorant fool who can make the opposing sides point better than anyone?

The "Ben" who appears from his last post to have a "thing" for infant children?

If you are not the same "Ben", my apologies, I'll accept that you are just misinformed and stuck with the same name as the "Ben" who could get lost in a round room.

first off, my response is to the original poster, you say in your first sentence first class flight arrangements were for her and her husband, then a few posts later it changes to her entire family. if anything changed from the original contract once signed, it would be my understanding that it is not within the contract and not something the little kids choir would have to pay for. second, Pat Benatar's two-bit show sucks. book someone else while you have the chance. I heard she has to look at sheet music to remember "read" the words and the show just sucks. I wouldn't pay $5 to see Pat Benatar and "her husband?" lame show I would never book for any event, especially for kids that have never heard of her before and unless subjected unwillingly, should never have to.

You should do some research on Andrew Carnegie.

He manufactured the first "sleeping cars" for railroads in 1856. These were not so the poor could relax, they were for the well off. In other words, first class accomodations.

He also took many trips to Europe and Africa. These were always on passenger ships. Do you think he went there in "steerage"? Steerage is "coach" on a ship. No, he did not. He stayed in the best suites the ships had to offer. Again, first class.

He gave away his fortune AFTER he was done with it, not while he was still amassing it. He did not hang out with poor people at all. He worked his a*s off to make it and he did just that. If he can do it, so can everyone else.

If you are on a ranch, do you want to be the cow, or the cowboy? Ranchowner, or ranch-hand? Pick one and go with it. I'd rather be the boss than the employee.

I did not see anyone in businessclass or first class that wore dirty clothes, acted like a savage, or was just plain trash. Coach was full of them. There were many, probably most, in coach that were fine, but like they say, one bad apple...! Coach was always like a basket full of bad apples. And no, the wealthy generally do not fly charter aircraft. They are more expensive than a commercial flight. You don't get wealthy by throwing money away.

First class dregs as well

AUTHOR: Rick - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, October 15, 2005

Your comments about coach passengers being dregs is utterly absurd. You present as a hillbilly, redneck drunk who won the lottery or a personal injury lawsuit.

I have flown 148,000 miles over the past year, all of it in first class. However, I disagree with your statement that coach passengers are dregs. This is not true. They simply chose not to spend the money on a first class ticket. Maybe they didn't think it was worth it. So that makes them dregs?

Unfortunately, there's a lot of dregs in first class. People like you. People like you that fly very infrequently. But, on their annual trip to Vegas or AC, they decide to "do it up big" and fly first class. You're the loudmouthed drunk ordering the flight attendants around and annoying the other passengers. Then, when they finally shut off the booze, you drink the stuff you snuck on. Sitting next to a low-life like you in first is as bad as gets.

Now come on Robert, tell us the truth. How many times have you actually flown in your life?

Oh, and just to let you know genius, the rich and elite class that you aspire to fly private charter, not commercial first class.

I shop at Wal-Mart and wouldn't waist a dang penny on $150 shoes.. give me a break.. ( don't forget who made them shoes..) anyways.. Pat agreed to an initial contract and in the real world where "lower" people do that, they are bound.. no changes or to court they go.

For them people who don't want to associate with the "lower" class.. it is a good thing that Andrew Carnegie didn't believe the way you do or just maybe you wouldn't have had a chance to make something better of yourself.

I have friends of both wealth and poverty ( good thing they don't think like some of the people above ) who get along just fine. They don't raise noses nor turn their backs on people when they are in need. I find it interesting that people in poverty will help anyone, even the rich or well off if they are in need, but not to often the other way around. I think Pat should honor her original contract, or just take her name off of the charity list and turn her nose up like some other people who have money...

Faye is misreading something

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, October 14, 2005

In none of these posts have I said I am "rich". I am not poor, but I am also not "rich". The main point is, I don't hang out with poor people...no reason to...and I try to emulate those who are successful. I do not envy the wealthy.

I grew up poor(in the days before welfare and food stamps...people actually paid their own way through life), Mom remarried to a guy with some sense and he got very wealthy, so my teenage years enjoyed the priviledges of money. I also worked from the time I was 9 years old(paperboy with the largest Washington Post route in the DC Metro Area, untill I turned 16). Here's a hint for success...people who work, make more money than those who don't. I joined the Marines after high school and went back to being broke. Got out after 9 years, and started my life over, and have worked to provide my family with everything they need, and most things they want. My wife doesn't work, other than to take care of my son, and my house in NC.

I will be "rich" one day, on my own. If someone can give me one reason why I should WANT to have anything to do with the portions of our society that have nothing, and never will, I'd like to hear/read it. I did not gain monetarily by watching the "poor" and trying to do what they do. I did it by using the "rich" as my example and going from there. Anyone who does it the other way around, will be broke all their lives, and constantly whining about the "evil rich".

For all the posturing out there about how mean I am for not wanting to hang with the slackers of society, I wonder how many of you do it. Most people like to make a big claim of compassion, yet will do nothing to be compassionate. Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, he eats for life. That is compassion.

Getting stuck in the cattle car of an airplane with screaming kids, and strange smells is not how I, or anyone with a lick of sense wants to fly. If you do, you are pathetic. Who would not want to be in the better section? Do you also tell the realtor you want to live in the crack-house part of town?

'Nobody ever got a job by asking a poor person for one.' Righto! But try convincing the tatooed, multi-pierced, flip-flop wearers in coach of this! Liked your comment about when people wore suits and dresses when traveling by air or train.

If you expect a celebrity to give away their talents free, you have to at least pay their expenses. They could give a concert for big bucks--why travel by cattle car?

But Robert, take it easy on the WalMart customers. I go there occasionally to get high-ticket items at discount prices. But I don't b***h when I don't get Bloomie's or Nordstrom's service because I know what I want and don't expect technical advice from one of their employees.

Pay the airfare or go to your local commedy club for talent.

I would rather be accepted by the wealthy than the poor. Nobody ever got a job by asking a poor person for one. Nobody ever got rich from dealing with poor people. I love money, and the only way to get it is to deal with those who have it to spend. People judge you by the company you keep. If everyone around you is a derelict, that is exactly the impression you will give others about yourself. I hang with the people who can do for themselves, just like me. I have fun. Do you?

Wally's Classy, Robert's Nasty

AUTHOR: Kristin - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, October 13, 2005

I LOVE you Wally!!! You summed everything up in your first letter. And you were right with your last letter. Robert did want to get the last word but he didn't!!! Money doesn't make someone have class neither does flying first class! You either have class or you don't. A classy person does not snubb others for the way they look or what they have. Maybe their attitude. Therefore I can snubb Robert and still have class because it's Robert's attitude that I'm snubbing. My Mom taught me something when I was younger which was this. "People can't help the way they look, but they can help the way they act". So, don't bust on people for what they wear, what they look like ect... It's of unimportance. People who are rich and or poor have class. It's not what you earn that makes you what you are it's WHO you are. It's your HEART! Robert's just a tag along. He tries to mix with the rich so that he feels of some importance because he's so insecure. He wants to be accepted. If you read everything he wrote it tells alot about him. Don't take my word though read it for yourself! Robert, why don't you be like Robinhood maybe he should be your new role model in life, not YOURSELF! LET IT GO! Just let it go......... hahahahahah... Dude, I'll pray for ya, but the rest is up to you.

I guess in Wally-World, everyone is equal, no matter if they are broke or rich. I'll take the rich over the poor any day.

If you truly do work for the tourism business, then you know you don't make a living off of the people looking for CHEAP. You make it off the ones looking for QUALITY. This is in any business. The dregs are not the ones purchasing your tour packages Wally, and you know it. You just cannot bring yourself to admit you know the difference.

Nowhere did I ask anyone to fall at my feet and bow or whatever you do to your betters.

If you want to sit next to some ignorant hillbilly who had a bath last week sometime, great. If you like being with people who have kids screaming all during the flight, great. If you like being sat next to some 400 pound lardass who spills over into your seat, great. I'll take the nice, big seats the better sections offer, along with people who just flat out have more class. At no point in my life(rich and poor) have I made a consious decision to want to have anything to do with broke-asses. Poor people are poor because they make poor choices in life. Rich people are rich because they make good choices. I'll take someone who makes good choices over someone who doesn't, anyday!

If you want to hang out with derelicts, don't be surprised if everyone thinks that of you. People judge you by the company you keep. I hang out with smart, self sufficient people. These are the people who make the world work. Ever ask a poor person for a job? Surprised they couldn't give you one? Probably.

I have already stated the charity should have just paid for Pat's First Class Ticket, not the family as a group. To expect ANYONE to want to be flown across the country in a cattle car environment is idiotic at best. They should have gotten her a First Class ticket and tried working out a deal with the airline for the rest of the family.

Having been involved in the tourism industry at the board level for some time I am glad to say there are very few American tourists like Robert left. The ones that fly into a country, any country and expect everyone to fall to their knees and hail the arrogance in front of them. You know Robert how the concierge at the resort is somehow subhuman and not to be greeted with a smile and particularly the Valet who parks your car. No any person that does an honest days' work is way beneath your station!
Your type used to be in the majority until the airlines dropped the cost of flying. Now we see the true "salt of the earth" Americans who are lovely people and each one is worth ten of you in terms of life skills and joy of living. This "wack s**t" as you described me (and what a delightful description to throw into the pot so early in the debate) has obviously ruffled your feathers so get over it. Some of your countrymen and women are less financially advantaged than you but they are a delight to talk to and be with. You, my friend, can stay in your little fantasy world where you are better than everyone else and whinge about everyone and everything. I live in the real world and enjoy my life so much, not because I can afford to fly first class but because I meet so many down to earth people that simply enrich my life. My life would be even better if I didn't have to deal with the likes of you.
I'm apologise to the originator of this post for taking the thread a little off track. I will let Robert have the last say because he is so very superior to me and all other posters (Ha!) Good luck with your fundraising and I hope the kids continue to flourish.

Did I say I was a celebrity? No.

Did I say I know Steve Irwin? No.

But neither do you Wally.

What I do know is that people don't like being bothered. You apparently bother people on planes. When I, and everyone else I see in First/Business Class, get on a plane, we want to be left alone so we can relax. I take it you like to be one of those guys who tells you their life history while the other guy is trying to be left alone. I flew coach twice. It was a nightmare. I learned how to count in Japanese though. That has come in handy, kind of like when my math teacher said Algebra would save my life some day. I also learned everything I needed to know about some old lady's grandchildren. One flight was 21 hours of hell, the other was only 15.

I discovered that for a few extra dollars, I can upgrade to a better seat and be left alone. In fact, I found that everyone else in the better sections had the same idea. They didn't bother anyone else. I actually enjoyed the trip and was relaxed when I got off the plane. To be completely honest, we actually had a good time up there. After about an hour on a 6 hour flight, the Stewardess(the babes are in the good sections folks) brought out the booze and the food and we all had fun. It's been awhile since that first time, so I don't remember what we ate...something Italian. What I do remember is it was about 100% better than the crap they served in the cattle car(coach).

Since that first time, I've never even thought of riding in the cheap seats.

Here's a thought for all of you to ponder. There was a time when people wore suits and dresses to get on an airplane or train for travelling. The ticket prices were higher also. Airlines dropped their prices so more people could afford to fly. Now, you see people wearing dirty rags and carrying all sorts of junk(it's treasure to some) and smelling like a bad night in Jersey. These are the people in coach. A&E has a show called "Airline" that depicts what I am talking about. You don't see any of that in the good seats. Coach-The WalMart customer's choice.

So you're a celebrity Robert. Did the "lowlifes" or "drones" who want your autograph have anything to do with you becoming a celebrity? How soon we forget! Me, I guess I must just be one of them also because I enjoy meeting people from all walks of life and I consider nobody to be a lesser person than I am.
You should try it mate - treating other people as your equal - it's amazing what you can learn about life. Keep looking in the mirrow and seeing a superior being and you will end up being even more bitter and twisted than you already are. Life is for living - material things are unimportant. Trust me you can't take any of it with you. Your comments about Steve I'll ignore - you obviously don't know the man.

If you like sitting in a cramped seat with lot's of lowlifes around you, great. Not me. I seriously doubt Steve Irwin flies coach either. I would presume he uses a charter, or goes first class also. No celebrity anywhere wants a bunch of drones hounding them for autographs. The only way to prevent that is with charter aircraft or better flight arrangements.

Robert Paul your head out of your bum long enough to smell the roses!! Dregs of society indeed - some of us choose not to fly first and donate the difference to a charity of our choice. I dare say 8 out of 10 people who don't fly business or first class could probably buy and sell you 10 times over. You are the typical would be if he could be and think you are impressing the world because you max your credit card in order to be able to look down your nose at the "dregs of society"
You obviously have never tried to raise money for a worthwhile cause because you would not make such inane comments if you had.
More power to you Kristina - you are right. Charity comes from the heart not the wallet. Instead of your business having to provide funds to fly "the family" on a holiday simply donate it to the fund raising effort and forget the 'superstars' who have lost sight of who has paid to get them to their station in life. The mighty can fall quicker than they rose. The Roberts of this world will never rise - they are simply legends in their own minds and that is as far as they ever get!!
Contact Steve Irwin (the crocodile hunter) who lives just down the road from me and watch him jump on a plane and fly economy if it's to help a worthwhile cause. He and his family do so much charity work here on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland. Love him or hate him he has never been anything but a genuine bloke. Good luck with your fundraising. The children are indeed our future and any help they can be given is a very good investment in this planets' future.

POSTED: Thursday, September 22, 2005

It is unreasonable to think anyone who is asked to perform for FREE, should have to ride in the cheapest seats available. I fly business class or first, depending on the airplane I am on. Why should anyone expect someone else to sit with the dregs of society for 6 hours? Coach is the equivalent of WalMart. You get what you pay for. If coach is good enough for you, why not just take a bus? That's a real experience in travel.

Is anyone paying attention?

AUTHOR: Jodie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, September 22, 2005

Have any of you been paying attention to the topic or are you just enjoying bashing Ohio and this Kristina person?

A children's Orchestra asked a famous person to help support their fndraiser. This star was on a list where she stated they could contact her if they needed her support.

They contacted her to help them raise money. Yes she was asked to perform for free - generally a star does this, that is what a fundraiser is for. They did offer to fy her to the concert site and arranged for meals and accomodations.

She agreed and they announced this to be part of their fundraiser for needy children.

Then she changed the rules asked for first class only - this was not budgeted for - these are kids. Then requested her entire family be allowed to come as well on the kids budget - this was not a part of the original deal.

Then because it was not part of the budget these kids had to go to other companies like Kristina's to ask for hand outs to meet the stars requests.

This is wrong - Kristina is right. You should not take it out on her she was one of the people who was asked o donate for the good of the kids she (her company) had nothing to gain by this. She was being asked just like the star to do something for free.

Many stars donate time and money - it is all tax deductable anyway. i like Pat - but I think this was very rude!!!

How bad do you want them

If your company can't meet the new conditions thens you have to find someone else.

Unless they had already signed a contract with your company where it outlines what your company will pay Pat and her husbands flight, accomidations, food and other expenses and only them then you have cause to be upset.

But you have to look at this from a financial perspective.

If she is appearing for free other than the costs to fly her there, etc. Then think about how much it would have cost if she charged you for her appearance PLUS all the other expenses!

It is up to your company to decide if they can afford this and if they can't then there is your answer.

Maybe I wasn't clear...I didn't ask her..we were asked by our company to donate these miles

AUTHOR: Kristina - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, April 09, 2005

I didn't ask her..we were asked by our company to donate these miles. Pat and her husband committed (they were on the list of celebrities to contact). The fundraisers to fly them out here, pay for their meals, etc. were already covered. They decided to ADD their family to the mix. They will not perform now (after confirming) UNLESS their entire family is flown here as well, first class everything.

Neil is from this area and I feel they are playing on these kids to get his family here FOR FREE. So, it is a last minute rush to get them here (the entire family) or they will back out. Hey, I agree that maybe they could have found someome else, but when you as a celebrity are already someone who supports this particular youth orchestra, and you have already said you would do it, you should stand by it. Not be a prima donna and make these kids pay even more so your family gets a free trip home. That's bogus.

It's not like the kids asked, heard the demands and said "O.K." They did what was in their means, and then were sideswiped by the NEW demands. Go out and buy Pat's Greatest Hits, she obviously needs the cash.
