On July 20, 2010, I got a letter in the mail from Canada offering a Mystery Shopper job offer. Included in the mail was a check for 3,435.00, part of it was going to be used for the assignment.
I deposited the check into my bank account and did as the letter instructed: $300 was my pay. $2840 to be transfered thru either Western Unoin or Money Gram, $195 transfer fees and $100 for shopping during the survey.
After completed the assignment I faxed the report to the person listed on the letter and they contacted me to confirmed the reception of the fax and notified me of my next assignment.
The following week my bank informed me that the check was returned as a bad one and I ended up with an overdrawn account.
I did file a Police report and contacted the Johnson County District Attorney's Office.

Please let this be a lesson to all to ramp up your suspiciousness factor & don't be so naiive as to fall for such an old trick. I can't believe anyone in this day & age would fall for such a thing.
