Bait and switch, sold unnecessary repairs, did not fix auto: Went to Pep Boys because car was bouncing in rear, Alex looked at the car and said I needed shocks and they had a 50% special on labor for shocks.  He gave me a written quote for $424.00 for rear shocks for the car.  Amanda Carpenter called an hour later and said they wanted to do a "Hydropneumatic Suspension System Diagnosis" and it would be an additional $100.  I agreed to the additional service.  She called back and said yes the diagnosis did say Alex was right and I needed rear shocks and the car would not be ready till the next day and nothing about the price which I reasonably assumed was $424.00.  When I finally was able to pick up the car the bill was for 2,281.00, and not the $424 originally quoted. The manager came out and said I had to pay or I can’t get the car, I asked for the old parts and he said they had been disposed of.  He also commented "its expense to drive a Mercedes".

Later, when driving the car, the problem was not fixed it still bounced in the back as before.  I returned the car and they said they would look at it.  An hour later Alex called and said nothing was wrong with the car, the mechanic came out and said it’s bouncy because there is nothing in the cargo area.

Had to take it another mechanic to get the real problem fixed at a cost of 487.00.  BEWARE READ THE INTERNET ABOUT Pep Boys in Costa Mesa and believe what people are trying to say!!! if you have been ripped off by them file a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair, Google it.
